Why did SUVs replace Sedans as the go to normie vehicle?
>>
>>28685821
High up = more safe
Bigger = more safe and more room for Fats
>>
>>28685821
sedans aren't as profitable as SUVs/trucks. you also need one minimum because given how many are on the road, if you get into an accident you don't want to be crushed in a sedan by a white karen whacked out on SSRIs in her $100k cayenne
>>
When everyone collectively decided they didn't want to drive minivans
>>
>>28685821
A 2025 Chevy Trax (slightly) faster 0 to 60 than a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am.

Almost unbelievable, and yet the 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, with its 5.0-liter V8, 145 horsepower, and roughly 3,200-pound weight, reached 0–60 mph in about 9.0 seconds.

The 2025 Chevrolet Trax, despite a tiny 1.2-liter turbo engine and similar 137 horsepower, weighs slightly less at around 3,000 pounds and matches that time at about 8.9 seconds.

Quite a stark contrast that shows how modern engineering, through turbocharging, lighter materials, and advanced electronics, has made today’s entry level, subcompact SUV as quick as yesterday’s muscle cars, but with economic sensibility.
>>
>>28685821
Because of the BIGGER DICK theory.
It wasn't that bad until everyone started offering wimpy unibody AWD CUVs.
>>
>>28685821
That's not an SUV... Crossovers and pickup trucks replaced the sedan. Why? Because they're much more practical than a sedan and easier to live with. Manufacturers push crossovers because they're like country music. They're easy to make, make a lot of profit and people gobble them up.

>>28685857
>hurr fatties
That argument would be valid if these things actually had room on the inside but they're built like a slave ship on the inside despite their large exterior.
>>
>>28685821
Normies didnt choose them, manufacturers did. Until 2011 they were classified as light trucks under CAFE and had more lienient standards.
>>
>>28685983
Holy fuck. Would you people give the whole CAFE/chicken tax thing a rest already? That shit hasn't been relevant for decades now. Big vehicles sell because people like big fucking vehicles. Why do people prefer oversized houses over small houses? What's your conspiracy for that one?
>>
>>28685989
people also like things cheap, and you get that by gaming tax laws you retard. in the 2000s and before you got cheap big cars by having them classified as light trucks.

now because most people are poors and CAFE operates off footprints, they buy smol cross overs like Rogues, because they're cheap, not because they're big
>>
>>28685821
Women.
>>
>>28686000
>people also like things cheap
Who told you this? If this were true base models would be out-selling the mid to luxury trim models. Meanwhile the inverse is true in the real world. I also don't know who told you Rogues and other small crossovers are "cheap". I routinely see people paying $40k+ for them. Most people will also jump right to a Pathfinder which further backs up my point of people not wanting small vehicles.
>>
>>28685821
Turns out everyone wanted to drive a lifted car.
>>
>>28686009
It's more so them not wanting to drive a sedan that sits 2'' off the ground with rubber band tires and "sporty" suspension. That shit killed the sedan. And no it's got nothing to do with people being fat. I'm in shape and don't like getting in and out of a low to the ground vehicle.
>>
>>28685989
>Would you people give the whole CAFE/chicken tax thing a rest already?
>have my sedan fleet engineered to meet 55 mpg average
Or
>just put my current sedan engineering in a big enough foot print to NOT have to make it meet 55mpg
>women also like swoopy vehicles, and they buy less scrupulously than men
Thus the crossover...
>>
>>28686022
Why do you think big vehicles don't have to conform to the same emission requirements? Why do you think all pickup trucks have to have 8/10 speed trannies, small turbo engines, AFM, static and active aero, etc? Why do you think they don't get 8mpg anymore? Oh and go look up what vehicles women actually like and are attracted to. hint: It's not them buying the swoopy vehicles. That's beta males buying that shit.
>>
>>28685857
Anon is right.
Women are stupidly obsessed with safety (but only in a first order, reactionary way); to that end they participate in the vehicular arms race in terms of weight; but truggs are too masculine for them.
Throw in more interior space for car seats, and there you go.
>>
>>28685821
I've been rear ended by some sedans and their entire windshield goes out while my suv ends up barely dented.
>>
>>28686028
Truck footprints aren't held to the 55mpg standard you dingaling. Doesn't mean they aren't held to some standard at all. Plus it's $15 or / 0.1mpg off the target fuel economy for the class of vehicle. Of course manufacturers are still going to squeeze mpg for their class.
>>
>>28686028
Also CAFE isn't CARB. Emissions is going to be the same across the board. That's not fuel economy.

That's a crossover not true SUV, and because it's basically a wagon which is a more practical vehicle. The original cars were crossovers. They didn't cuck cargo space and had high ground clearance. The sedan is the real bastardization. There's no point to making the trunk go down like that and having it so low to the ground it bottoms out and scrapes. That's fucking impractical and not worth the slight fuel savings. Basically you're a fucking gay idiot if you fell for the sedan meme.
>>

>>
>>28685821
Because for the "normie" they are a better vehicle. More cargo space, better visibility and more tolerance for bumps and potholes than a sedan, good enough fuel economy, easier to get in and out.

Nobody buying one of these gives so much as a single shit about handling.
>>
>>28685821
A bit more practical than a sedan. Wagons would do just as well, and minivans are just better, but those don't get to cheat CAFE so manufacturer would rather market SUVs.

My Carnival is better than my dad's X-Trail in literally all of those metrics. Including fuel economy and composure over bumps. It even handles better.

>>
>>28686998
Culture. Station wagons were the most popular thing ever, but they were seen as the mom vehicle that was handed to their children. I think at some point SUV's will be seen the same way when younger generations start finally going into getting a vehicle , because they will and anyone pretending otherwise is retarded
>>
>>28687002
Frumpy compared to an SUV? Lol. Have you seen one?
>>
>>28685821

Various regulations and jewish exceptions to regulations mean that even though making an suv can be physically more costly, it has a higher potential profit margin in actuarial terms.
A small entry level hatchback or sedan like the mirage or sentra and cuckover like the chevy trax are both basically the same price these days, but the former could be half the price of the later absent all the red tape.
So any of the potential advantages that could be gained by not using a blocky cuckover design, be it in terms of vehicle performance, efficiency, or manufacturing, are largely negated.

The people who drive these things have no idea. When a normal man sees another "man" driving a cuckover it's immediately apparent that something is wrong.
They had to buy this ridiculous looking turd because the wife made them do it. They're too poor to have something nice for themself and a stupid woman car for their woman.
If the guy is single and driving a cuckover they've obviously got some kind of mental illness that gives them shit taste in cars.

What you stated matters really only to car enthusiasts who are a massive minority of car purchasers.

>>
>>28687272
>pointing out that objectively car enthusiasts are a minority is "talking shit"
You're such a sensitive little bitch. The topic of conversation is why people buy crossovers and SUVs in droves over sedans and coupes. And the answer is, because they're better dailies.

I daily drive a manual SRT 392. But I also know that I'd be better off driving a hybrid RAV4 daily. However I don't care and will take the negatives because the subjective positives like enjoyment of driving outweigh the objective negatives like 14 MPG, smaller cargo space, only 2 doors, scraping my front splitter etc.
>>
>>28687290
but you're here defending cuckovers which is an inherently anti enthusiast behavior.
>>
>>28687289
Should I just go drive around right now and get some pictures?
>>

>because they're better dailies.
That's a straight up lie. A sedan, coupe or hatchback is a better daily in every way than an suv.
>>
>>28687296
Nope.

>Better visibility, safety, easier to load cargo, more cargo space, easier to enter. Objective reality.
>>
>>28687294
How is me saying sedans are better dailies than faggy cuvs because cuvs are ugly slow and gay me somehow defending said faggy cuvs?
>>
>>28685821
Because SUVs and crossovers just mog sedans as commuters. Better visibility. More spacious interior. Better ground clearance for navigating our dying nation's crumbling roads. Virtually the same MPG nowadays. Better for loading up weekend trip. Why should I get a sedan? They're not priced low enough, may as well spend a little more on the SUV.

>muh handling

>>
>>28687297

>>
>>28687297
>Safety
You're more likely to be rear ended in your gay SUV because people behind you can't see past your huge pile of shit and see the traffic conditions ahead.
>>
>>28687305
Sedans have better visibility than faggy cuvs and are more spacious as well
LOL @ needing ground clearance
LOL @ weekend trips (literally not daily)
LOL @ driving slow
>>
>>28687306
Crossovers and SUVs are objectively safer. That's not debatable. Visibility is better because you are higher up. You may not load cargo daily however we are talking about a purchase of often tens of thousands of dollars, people want the practicality built in and not need to purchase a second vehicle for it.

>>28687307
Typically when carrying something you carry it at about waist height. This is perfect for loading into a crossover/SUV. You have to bend over to load it into a sedan/coupe/hatchback. Further, a hatchback is low and you will usually have to stoop and bend over below the hatch. Whereas with the crossover/SUV the hatch is above your standing height.
>>
>>28685821
The disappearance of the middle class and near necessity of driving due to lack of viable alternatives has forced more people into one do-it-all solution instead of multiple vehicles or being able to get away with something less practical as their only car. Women also buy more new cars than men, and they tend to prefer something with a high seating position for the illusion of safety.
>>
>>28687317
>Typically when carrying something you carry it at about waist height.

>>

>illusion of safety
No, they literally are safer. In fact, if you really want safety, you should be driving the biggest heaviest SUV, the Suburban.
>>
>>28685868
The Firebird could have been faster accelerating with the same power, they just gave it shitty highway fuel economy gearing due to being made immediately after the second fuel crisis and being stuck with older transmissions. 1982 was a bit of a black sheep year as they all had 4 speed manuals at best or an even shittier 3 speed automatic. The 5 speed manual and 4 speed auto didn't come until 1983, and as such the 0-60 dropped to 8.8 seconds.

You are more likely to be injured in a Suburban when you crash into another Suburban than if you were in a Malibu and crashed into another Malibu (given identical accidents at the same speed) simply due to more forces being transmitted through both vehicles as they weigh twice as much. Not to mention the increased rollover risk. Your graph also conveniently ignores that the smaller cars are at higher risk simply because there are more larger vehicles on the road now to do more damage to them as a result of this retarded vehicle size arms race.
>>
>>28687341
Cope. Even the best driver in the world can still get t-boned by a drunk illegal.
>>
>>28687344
>You are more likely to be injured in a Suburban when you crash into another Suburban than if you were in a Malibu and crashed into another Malibu
Nope. This is because the significantly increased crumple zones and mass absorb the energy. Additionally, due to the extra interior space you are farther away from intrusion points and pillars.
>>
>>28687317
Sedans and coupes are objectively safer. That's not debatable. Visibility is better because you are at ground level.
>You may not load cargo daily, however we are talking about a purchase of often tens of thousands of dollars, people want the practicality built in and not need to purchase a second vehicle for it.

>>
>>28687345
My commute is a 60-mile round trip each day. It would cost me upwards of $300 a month to fuel a Suburban. I say we make it harder for retards to get behind the wheel of anything bigger than a Camry, from personal experience retards in full-size pickups and SUVs are the biggest threat to my safety.
>>
>>28687350
>I'm just going to plug my ears, cry and deny reality
Lol. Listen pal, if you like sedans/coupes/hatchbacks cool. That's all good. They make sacrifices for their positives but if that positives outweigh the negatives for you then awesome, enjoy. But shrieking into the void and intentionally lying to yourself does nothing.

As a side note, why don't you have an actual performance vehicle since you're apparently a hardcore automotive enthusiast?
>>
>>28687348
Not inherent to the vehicle size. A smaller vehicle with the same length between the steering wheel and front bumper can have the same amount of crumple zone. Either way, a few inches of extra space still isn't enough to make up for twice as much mass to deal with.

>>28687353

Seats in compact crossovers are at ass height, instead of being 2 feet off the ground. They can just slide in and out instead of having to drop in and climb out. The only thing they really struggle with is picking their legs up once they're in the seat.

Sounds like a skill issue to me, all my grandparents did just fine with normal cars.

People don't buy minivans because they're fucking terrible vehicles for your money. Why would you drop $60k+ on a minivan when you can spend the same or a bit more and get a fucking Suburban or a fully loaded pickup?

Sometimes I wish I had a big SUV. I sat in one of these the other day and I couldn't believe how much room there was. Really makes me wish I wasn't bundling my 6'8 frame into a Hyundai Accent every day.

But then I would feel guilty driving around in something that kills polar bears and toddlers.

Sales numbers mostly.
I have noticed almost every woman wants or has an suv.

Burbs are dangerously based. I got an 05 Yuk XL myself. I don't have a family and don't tow anything. I just like it for camping and roadtrips. Driving a big gas guzzler isn't that much worse for the environment than buying a new vehicle every 2-4 years.

i wouldn't know about that

They actually don’t have much usable room compared to a minivan, and they ride like shit.
If you’re a big boy you should look into a minivan. More comfortable and better gas mileage than a cuck you vee.

minivan spammer plz go nobody here will ever fall for that lmao

A Suburban has VASTLY more room than a minivan you retard.

I think of the crossovers as bigger station wagons, which were the true normie vehicle. Sedans were more of a yuppie thing, removing space for a large family for a sleeker more commuter friendly shape.

Minivans and vans are popular in countries where you can get tax exempts for selling them as 2-3 seaters.
The problem do remain that one of the major first time buyers are going to be fleet vehicles, which drive them on lease/buy until 4-5 years, and they then enter the used market.

BIG FAT AMERICAN BITCHES

>Sub-compact CUV
No utility, no comfort. Basically nobody should own these except city dwelling poors and grandmas who have trouble getting into a sedan.

>Compact CUV / hatchback
Compromises on everything, proficient at nothing. The vehicle for a person who needs their car to "do it all" - poorly.

>3-Row "SUV"
An IQ test for breeders. The third row is basically useless except for kids under 10, and the cargo space is only marginally more than a compact CUV. Anyone considering one of these would be better off buying a minivan.

>"Mid-size" truck
The vehicle that will achieve 95% of your needs, but it won't be much fun unless you're the sort of chud who pays for the off-road model and actually likes to go mudding and shit like that.

>Full size truck
The ultimate mall crawler for boomers who believe 450HP is the bare minimum for getting groceries and parking badly.

>Full size SUV
For the boomers who have nostalgia for National Lampoon's vacation, and want to torture their family with a camping trip.

>Sedan
Proof that you can afford more than one vehicle or pay someone else to move shit.

>Coupe
Proof you can afford another vehicle, and like to have fun driving your car.

clearly, good vehicles never existed, and there's nothing you should ever enjoy
