Looking pretty closely at getting one of these and despite the pretty good reliability ratings im down the rabbit hole of turbo vs na and which engine is likely to give me the least amount of problems. I see people complaining about the cylinder deactivation in the NA engines and it looks like they had a waranty extenstion. On the other hand people say turbo wont last as long which im not sure I believe and even if its true arent the reasons its bad the same reasons that CDA is bad? Anyways im buying used most likely from a dealer and my main concern with turbo is whether the og owner actually did the oil changes he was supposed to and the idleing before stopping engine etc. Help me /o/ maybe one of your dads works at madza im not really a car guy.
NA should give you fewer problems in the long run, especially with a second hand vehicle. Speaking as a NA Mazda owner, it feels perfectly pleasant to drive and nippy without a turbo.
Posting crossovers should be a bannable offense
>>28685885I did a test drive of one and noticed some forward/backward rocking or jerkyness. Later came accross others throwing tantrums over it on forums. Othwerwise it handled excellently so i dont know. GT trim is a must for me, i want the sunroof and pleather wont survive my kids, and turbos are priced about the same used where i am.
>>28685874>>28685910There's been recalls over the turbocharged Mazdas as of late. That might explain why the turbos have worse depreciation.
>>28685913>recalls over the turbocharged MazdasWhich ones? My mom drives a turbo cx-5 and I haven't seen anything about a recall.
>>28685913I know the 2019 and 2020 had issues with turbo. 2019 and up na have a warranty extension as a result of lawsuit or something.
>>28685874Get the turbo, be a man.
>>28685968Thanks anon. This is what i came for.
>>28685946>>28685957>Mazda turbo engines have several issues, including some related to excessive oil consumption in certain model years (especially 2021-2022) and some 2016-2020 models. Other problems can include worn-out cylinder heads (particularly in the CX-30)
I went through this buying one for my kid last year and I went with the NA motor, 2017 though. Basically they just have fewer issues than turbo motors and in a car you’re not buying new, the assurance that it’s harder for the other owner(s) to completely fuck up is worth the slight loss of power (is a cuv anyway, who cares). It’s been a great car though, very good mpg and comfy driving experience. Would buy again.
>>28685874The turbos are crap. If you want reliability and ease of maintenance go NA.
>>28685874Isn't the one you posted only available as an NA hybrid with CVT?
>>28686101Why? Because turbos are crap or issues with these ones? From what i can tell the issues specific to turbos were worked out in 2020 and the 2021 and up are ok. What also seems to be an issue is with the NA engines and cylinder deactivation causing shitty driving experience and they got a waranty extension of 10 years or something. I might be getting some of this wrong though...
>>28686106I dont even know i just posted a cx-5. I dont think there are any hybrid.cx-5s.
>>28686106what? no, CX-5's all have a 6 speed torque converter auto. Engine choices are n/a 2.5 or turbo 2.5, no hybrid (yet)>>28685874from what I understand all the turbo 2.5 engines are made in japan, apart from the couple specific model years they have a pretty good reputation. If you do a lot of highway driving or like the ability to overtake the turbo is the way to go. n/a is inherently more reliable by its nature of course but modern turbos are pretty reliable if you change the oil regularly. My wife has a turbo CX-50 and its been great (apart from mediocre fuel economy).
>>28685874After buying a Mazda because it had slightly better HP numbers than a Toyota, I should've just bought the Toyota and drove it in sport mode. Mazda is a dressed up Nissan, total piece of shit that will give you mechanical issues and electronic issues right out the gate. I've never seen so many fucking warning lights, my dash will just surprise me sometimes and light up like a Christmas tree. Their warranty is fake too, any inspection for a possible warranty repair costs $400. Goyota is running the same scam though. Warranties are fucking fake.
NA It's an economy car you don't need a turbo
>>28686106Mazda doesn't use CVTs.
>>28686477No one cares about your 80s Mazda gramps
>>28686606It's a 2024...

>>28685968>be a man.a man wouldn't buy a fucking crossover
>>28686667Yeah men never need to haul shit or drive on an unpaved dirt path or in snow. Men are faggots who stay relegated to well paved roads in tiny little girly cars.
>>28686689Get your T levels checked. Crossovers are specifically designed to appeal to women.
>>28685874I drove a turbo one for a little over 3 years, had 0 issues with it, aside from forward-facing radar crapping out sometimes because its positioned behind the logo on the grill and gets easily covered by snow in a blizzard. The steering was way better than an equivalent nissan or goyota, and the interior is probably the best one you can get for the money.Anyway,>turbo or NAI'd get the turbo if you do a lot of highway driving, otherwise just buy w/e is cheaper.
>>28686690Grow up. If you have a family you need some kind of suv and a compact check all of thr boxes except 5+ seating. I shop at costco, take kids to sports, buy furniture at ikea, and have to go cross country with the family sometimes. I have driven a sedan until now and it.doesnt work. Large suvs are just bling mostly and so are trucks. I have private school to pay for, I cant just get the vehicle I want
>>28686712People did all of that shit before the crossover existed you're just a cuck.
>>28686715That's true. I did it until now and I will opt for convenience thank you.
>>28686712Then why wouldn't you get a minivan?I agree with the other posters, you're pathetic.
>>28686719That's fine just don't come here and lie to me about how giving up and accepting ugliness, convenience and mediocrity is manly.
>>28686726>manlynta, but if you're basing your "manliness" on your vehicle, you might want to get your test levels checked
Cuckover drivers are so defensive over being forced to buy these hideous abominations because their balls are in a vice I should come here more often.
>>28686690I was a world record holding powerlifter as a natty competing against short roiders. I think about murder all the time. I wouldn't even have a reason to get my t levels checked. I just want to fit more shit in my car and not drag ass on the ground while also not cucking too much to the gas jew.
>>28686741>I think about murder all the timeHoly cringe. Trying to talk tough while admitting you drive a crossover haha what.
>>28686689Crossovers aren't for any of that shit though. Retard. They have shit boot space and are no better """"""offroad"""""" than a sedan.
>>28686712I literally do all of that in a coupe.
>>28686745Shut the fuck up I'll kill you
Jesus. Thank you anons who are not 12 years old. I'm close to pulling trigger on 2021 gt w/ turbo or a 2021 signature. Gonna see a couoke today.
>>28686757>if you're over 12 you have to buy some gay soulless pile of shit. Why are you even here? I don't go to wrist-watch enthusiast forums and post an apple watch.
>>28686761>enthusiastThis board is teenage and poorfag fanfiction for junkers and cash cars
I owned a 22 CX5 turbo. get the turbo. I rode in a friend's NA CX5 and it was painful to me, tho I probably wouldn't know the difference if I didn't own the turbo and drive it all the time. but I thought the difference was night and day, and ultimately the turbo CX5 is basically the fastest and best-handling crossover you can get in the price rangeI don't understand the anons that say the NA is fine, I assume they haven't driven the turbo models because the NA is a big standard commuter and the turbo has disproportionate amounts of torque down low, instant pull when you put the pedal to the floor in any RPM, any gearonly downside is shit gas mileage, I never broke 30 MPG a single time
>>28685874Get a 9th gen accord v6 coupe/touring or 10th gen 2.0t sport/touring, much better value.
>>28686689Well that's just the thing; cuckovers are not for hauling shit or driving on unpaved surfaces either. It's literally just a sedan platform except worse. Slower, heavier, blockier, worse gas milage, with no benefits to compensate. Totally suboptimized moneytraps for lemmings when other possibilities with more bang for your buck exist.
>>28686866This is the way. Or a mini countryman s if you need something shaped like box. You can thank me later.
>>28686689You would be better served by an AWD wagon with a little power.
>>28685874Just don't buy transverse-engined crossovers with direct injected motors and you'll be good in general. A CX-5 isn't good at doing anything remotely "SUV-like", anyway, and I bet you don't actually need any of the utility anyway (I've taken a CX-5 off the beaten path and through mud, the AWD system struggles and the "sport-tuned" suspension sucks).Either you actually have use for some of the utility an SUV might provide, like a 4Runner or Tahoe which are both body on frame, with decent towing capacities and high-low transfer cases, or you'd be better suited with a standard car (likely). From driving CX-3 and CX-5s many times, they just feel like cheaper BMW X3s and X5s for people that couldn't actually afford them. While those may still not be true, full-framed SUVs, at least they have longitudinally mounted engines and rear-biased AWD systems with decent engine options by comparison.
>>28687863That's what a crossover is...I don't care about a minor shape difference, a wagon is still a sized up car too but they have smaller wheels and sit lower. Not as practical.
>>28687958>That's what a crossover is...But hideous, egg shaped, with a way higher center of gravity
>>28687874Thanks for the informative post. I did drive a turbo cx-5 today and it did drive like the last mercedes i drove. So basically sold.
>>28687874>they just feel like cheaper BMW X3s and X5sI don't think you realize how bad modern BMWs are. It's like they fucked up the calibration for literally every control.
*rusts*
>>28685874Get an actual SUV or look for a used RX or MDX if you want a premium feeling "SUV" or par with most MazdasZero reason to buy a CX
>>28687958A crossover is just a needlessly small minivan with hinged rear doors. They're for discerning buyers who demand the absolute worst option in every way.

>>28688064Minivans are ugly and wagons are a grandma car. Your opinion isn't what the vast majority of people think so take it and shove it up your ass. Buying a lifted car with more space is fine and I'm not gonna buy your retarded outdated versions of them just so an online circle of autists can approve of me.
>>28688064If it really was the worst option people wouldnt buy it you marxist moron.
>>28688085>Looked at RAV4, CR-V, random Subarus, none really compare imo for the price vs what you getSame. Interior and features are next best thing to a true luxury. Reliabily on par with rav4 and more fun to drive.
>>28688374It's a shitty Nissan in a suit dude, here are some of the issues that piss me off and will constantly piss you off too.>car has an automatic parking brake, but it's poorly programmed. Sometimes you start the car and if you put it in gear quickly, the parking brake stays on and you end up revving your engine trying to figure out why the car isn't moving.>the automatic headlights are a forced feature, the headlights must be on when the car is moving. But they're poorly programmed, you start the car and start moving, like 30 seconds later your headlights come on after you've had to drive through the parking lot in the dark.>the radio is always on when the car starts, fuck me I can't figure out why the programmers were this retarded, probably jeets, and the car was made in Mexico which should've been a major red flag.>have to go through 3-4 screens just to change the radio station, again just shit tier programming.>there's an automatic emergency braking safety feature, it's always on when you start the car. It slams on the brakes if it detects you're about to hit something, however, it often detects a car in the lane next to you as being in front of you and slams on the brakes fully, or a pedestrian on the sidewalk moving towards you it slams on the brakes. This has happened 4x in the 6 months I've owned the car and it's terrifying, I made the decision to sell the POS after it did it on the freeway and started fishtailing me at 80+mph. I almost fucking died.>burns oil, it's fucking NA not even the turbo, end up having to add an extra quart between oil changes.>multiple warning lights on and have been on since I bought it, it's still under warranty but Mazda charges $400 per inspection just to see if something is covered so to have the lights turned off costs me $400 and they're probably just gonna come on again. This isn't a realistic vehicle to own. Don't fuck with Mazda, total piece of shit. Just get a Toyota and drive it in sport mode.
>>28688404Another one:>can't adjust seats while the car is moving, probably some safety bullshit. The car has to be in park to adjust them.>even when the car is in park, the seatbelt chime beeps at you. It never turns off, it beeps forever.I could list shit all day but it has so many issues you forget many of them until they pop up again. This car pisses me off daily with these fucking annoyances. This doesn't even address the low nuild quality. My doors aren't installed properly so they close on their own, they won't stay open. This is a year old car. You'll be loading shit into the back seat and the door will slam on you, the edge hit me right in the ear hard and gave me cauliflower ear. The floor of the trunk is literal cardboard covered in carpet. If you put something heavy in your trunk it caves into the spare tire compartment, which is made of styrofoam. It's just so fucking bad it should be funny, but it's the most expensive car I've ever bought so I'm just sad and kick myself.
>>28688408Oh here's more:>both of the sun visors broke and just dangle, I barely even used them before something just snapped inside and they don't stay in place anymore.>the back of the driver's seat upholstery just blew out so there's foam showing now. The edge seams were held together by plastic clips which broke and need to be replaced.>the window motors don't sound good, very grindy when the windows roll down, probably gonna break soon.
>>28688404>>28688408What year is this? The one I drove today and bought doesnt have the radio on issue when you start. Most of these I cant say. Mine is made in japan though not mexico (canadian mx-5 are japaneze made). And the turbo from 2021 and up shouldnt have the oil burning issue but i think it deoends on the vin (mine is ok). I kind of like the nob to control the screen but the radio changing did seem to be too many steps. Its pretty fast with turbo.
>>28688064I would love a Mazda minivan.

>>28688404>>28688408>>28688415Read all your rant and honestly haven't had a single onePut a short ram intake on my '21 turbo and the biggest complaint is my wife thinks I'm racing it when we are doing 35 because the turbo is so loud and makes it seem like I'm driving aggressive when I'm notAll the trim and interior feels you listed i never had or noticed, headlights work fine, never had a seat belt problem, it doesn't drink oil etc etc.It handles like a SUV but I bet lowering it and some aftermarket suspension would tighten things upCould be a bad year i guess, some mazdas are genuinely hard to deal with it seems but that happens with most if not all brands these daysTo OP: DYOR obviously
>>28688441I'm not really interested in something that old for a family hauler. Mostly, I reckon they could make something much nicer now, if they tried.
>>28688363>Minivans are uglyAny time I show normies my car they say "That looks great! It looks like an SUV!"
>>28688477It's a shame that everything has to look like an SUV now.
>>28688404Brother do you have any idea what car you are actually talking about? All CX-5's were made in Japan, they were never made in mexico. Half the "issues" you have is just the most stupid shit - wow you're telling me the auto parking brake comes on when you park on a hill? Yeah. It has a little parking brake light and everything, why would you sit their rev bombing like a tard?>auto headlight turn on automaticallyyes?>multiple warning lights on and have been on since I bought it, it's still under warranty but Mazda charges $400 per inspection thats simply not true. Mazda does not charge for warranty issues. And this is all on a new car less than a year old?>hecking emergency braking almost killed me!!!so you were riding someones ass on the highway and the feature worked as intended when they had to suddenly brake? You sound like a retard.
>>28688783My parents have a 2021 cx5 and it's made in Japan. They have the turbo and it's great. A little laggy but I'm sure the na one is too weak. The only con is probably the mileage. They get 27 on the computer with a lot of highway driving.
>>28688783It's a cx30 and you're downplaying the fact that nearly none of the "luxury" features fucking work as intended. They all have some annoying fuckup and the forced "safety" features actually make the car dangerous to drive. This thing is objectively a piece of shit and you can't convince me otherwise, I'm the one who has to put up with its bullshit daily. It's hot garbage.

>>28688993>It's a cx30you should have opened with that then being that the entire thread is about CX-5's. Yeah the CX-30's are made in mexico and have more issues. You're either getting scammed or lying about the warranty inspection thing still though.
>>28686477>>28688404You sound like a fag, honestly. Maybe learn how cars work, maybe learn how to drive, maybe test drive BEFORE buying? Skill issue.
>>28690139It's the same brand and you're gonna find the same cheapness between factories, it may only be slightly better but there's a long list of issues. Another:>the transmission engine brakes on its own when going downhill, it will lock in a lower gear and limit downhill speed. It's just because the transmission is shitty and never finds the right gear, going uphill is a wash too, it will switch between gears and struggle to find where it needs to be.The warranty thing is what a lot of car manufacturers are doing now because the exact same thing happened with Toyota. You can't just bring your car in to be looked at even if it's for a warranty issue, they want you to pay to just have it looked at.>>28690258I would've had to rent it for a few days to see all the issues. It's pretty on the surface so it passes a test drive, but a few days in you're gonna be baffled by its shittiness.
>>28688373The problem with this kind of thinking is that most people are retarded and don't know shit about fuck.
