AdoIf HitIer's Mercedes 770 "Großer Mercedes" was powered by a 7.7-liter inline eight-cylinder engine, which produced 150 horsepower (110 kW) without a supercharger or 200 horsepower (150 kW) with an optional Roots-type supercharger engaged via a pedal. The engine, with a 7,655 cc (467.1 cu in) displacement, featured overhead valves, aluminium pistons, and was based on a design by Ferdinand Porsche.

so amazing how much they've managed to condense power
nowadays my engine makes 200 hp from only a 4 L straight six

>lost to this

what
>>
Lmao what an underpowered piece of shit, a honda civic does that from just a 1.6 engine.
Fucking germs can't make a car worth shit even if their life depended on it.

Based

>>28686653
OP is forgetting that engine probably made 500 pound-feet of torque at 400 RPM.
>>
>>28686657
Maybe on paper, in reality it probably spent more time being broken down than driving, being germshit.
They lost the war for a reason.
>>
>>28686660
the cadillac v-16 of the same era made a whopping 165hp with a displacement of 7.4l
>>
>>28686668
And was probably infinitely more reliable than any germshit of the time, so by default it makes more power than any germoid contraption just by being actually usable

This. It's fascinating how stupid some people are.

Wtf
>>
>>28686748
yeah and my modern petrol engine can rev to a whole 5700 rpm
it's so high tech it idles at 450, mad high

ain't the future crazy?
>>
>>28686233
One should add, that was the first generation of it (W07, 1930-1938). It was replaced by another 770 "Großer Mercedes" (W150, 1938-1944) that was larger and stronger.

>>28686652
The use of supercharging was turned off by default on most Mercedes back then. If the driver wanted the extra power he could couple the supercharger to the engine, aparently that was not meant for permanent use though.
>>
>>28687761
I always thought the on-off supercharger in Mad Max was bullshit.
>>
>>28686652
The Audi 3.0T has a clutch engaged supercharger. Pretty cool engine desu.
>>
>>28687761
>>28687954
that's really fucking neat but also goes against my conflicting ideas of germans, the ones who meticulously over-engineer things to autistic levels, and the ones who would ask, "if engine can make more power, why would you want it to make less? that is silly."
>>
>>28687820
it's theoretically possible, the reason the one from mad max wasn't possible is because you'd have to have a clutch on the fuckin crank pulley which is already RETARDED and then you'd have to have to come up with a way to get air in past the blades of the supercharger that aren't spinning.
>>
>>28687820
also one reason it's retarded is because you'd have to have a way to vary the tune from na/forced induction which is probably also gay and retarded

For me, it was the 540K, with a 5.4L supercharged I8 producing 180HP. I like how it's reminiscent of the 5.4L supercharged V8s Mercedes would build 60+ years later. It's also worth mentioning that Mercedes was the first manufacturer to strap a supercharger onto an engine of a production car.

Hitler's 6-wheeled Mercedes G4, with a 4x4 system (rear wheels only) was pretty neat, too, but not supercharged.
>>28687820
If I drive my E55 AMG like it's a Prius, the supercharger will never engage. Press the accelerator a bit more, and you get a "chirp" as the clutch engages and suddenly you feel an increase in instant torque. The clutch introduces another wear point, yes, but it's very easy to change.
On the antique Mercedes it was very similar, as the "kickdown" would engage the supercharger and therefore give you an extra boost of power.

>if engine can make more power, why would you want it to make less?
More efficient when you don't need the extra power (in theory)
>>
>>28686676
Yeah we get it you hate Europeans, nothing special from a Judeonigger Americunt.
>>
Apparently there was a twin supercharged 400hp version is there any more info about this?
