Brand wars aside, I have been thinking about what metric people use to determine whether something is shit taste or not. Me and my father like cars but we seldom agree on what we mutually like or dislike and recently I came across pic rel and thought "damn that looks kino" but apparently people have been slamming the kit online which has made me think about taste more. The only thing I can think of is that I like customs while people like my father are more reserved with what they would do to customize a car beyond under the hood tuning. So for them shit cars are shit by principle of their baseline and that if you customize a shit baseline car or a half-decent one you're kinda like bimbofying them if they were a woman. So is it often just stock purism v rule of cool? Or is it something else I am missing?
>>
>>28686584
It's something else. Modified cars can be cool. Stock cars can be shit.
>>
>>28686584
Non-OEM body kits are always shit taste, sorry bud.
>>
>>28686584
If OP likes it then it's a shit car
>>
>>28686584
looks good enough
all countach except the first iteration look like shit anyways so a bodykit won't do much harm
>>
>>28686584
People are NPC and the current fashion is being an NPC consumer and keeping the car completely stock.
>>
>>28686584
>people are slamming it online
Single best indicator of shit taste: you care about that
>>
>>28686584
literally every attractive aspect of the car in the OP is just the parts that weren't molested by the bodykit
>>

I think you have the shit taste here

To simplify a bit, I think you can boil it down to two aspects ; concept and execution. Concept is the idea behind the mod, why you are adding it, how it goes with the rest of the car, how it meshes with other mods. I think the main cause of shittily modified vehicles is people just throwing any available aftermarket parts at a car without thinking about why they'd even want to. Then comes execution, which should be pretty self explanatory. Y'know how the parts were actually installed, quality of materials, etc. A cool idea for a custom wouldn't be much good if you don't know how to make or install it. The best mods could be "cringe" on paper, but with a strong idea and good workmanship still come out well (picrel)

The fenders alone warrant whoever made this being executed, it looks like a child glued some shit to the car.
Anything that isn't made by people that actually participate in or research racing should be safely discarded.

everyone elses taste

Italian supercars are designed to be works of art. You wouldn't "modify" the Mona Lisa or Starry Night, so why would you put an ugly, garish body kit on a Countach?
>>
>>28686654
Something executed well could still bw trash taste; your picrel is a perfect example
>>
>>28686658
Your taste is what you like or don't like

Not my proudest car fap...
>>
>>28686799
What about If the Mona Lisa and Starry Night were released for reviews and publicity pictures, but after initial reviews some beancounters go and change them against da Vinci and Van Gogh's wishes, and released said neutered version of the paintings?
Would you then MODIFY the paintings to match da Vinci or Van Gogh's original vision, or do you keep the neutered version?
Or do you screech "nooo the beancounters DESIGNED it that way!!!"
All of this defines one's taste

>slammed
Shit by default to me. Some of it is because of the "people" who do these specific mods and I've never ran into a single one who wasn't in some way retarded, be it legitimate mental dysfuntion or just an attention seeking whore. The other part is it simply fucks with the car's lines. I've yet to see a car which looks have been improved by lowering the suspension. Also it drives like ass thanks to stiffer suspension.
>So is it often just stock purism v rule of cool?
Not at all. There are some mods that are fine but morons will go overboard with them and end up with a mutated abortion of a car. Doesn't matter if it was done well or not. Your pic is very related.

Now is picrel sLaMmEd?

The gs350 is stock. Is it retarded and gay because it's objectively ugly or just because you don't know how to drive a low car?
If every lowered/MODIFIED car is worse than stock, how do explain picrel?

>So for them shit cars are shit by principle of their baseline and that if you customize a shit baseline car or a half-decent one you're kinda like bimbofying them if they were a woman.
Using this analogy, the baseline "shit" cars are economy cars with no sporting intention. MODIFYING said cars is seen as shit taste because it's like lipstick on a pig
But MODIFYING a "half-decent" one may or may not be "bimbofying" it, to use the parlance of our times; that depends on the actual CHARACTER of the MODIFICATIONs
Slapping on cheap chankjank for looks is just that: cheap
Using high quality parts to take the car back to the engineers' original goal, before the beancounters get their hands on em; how is that poor taste? Unless the engineers had poor taste to begin with. But then why buy that car in the first place?
>>
>>28686855
i can still see his sidewalls that's tasteful

to be totally fair the car in op is on airbags at full droop and it can't actually drive like that

op pic and the civic are both tasteless and tacky as fuck
it isn't just the hilarious ride height (in either direction) that makes something corny or trashy or tacky or stupid
>>
>>28686584
>defining shit taste:
1. Is it an SUV or a pickup truck?
2. Is it modern eggshit hueg grill screens everywhere kitsch designed to appeal to oil sheikhs and nouveau riche Chinese?
3. Is it a ricer?
If any of the three applies to your car and you genuinely don't see anything wrong with it, then you have shit taste.

Everyone's got an opinion, man.
Something like what you posted could be tasteless to a purist, but IMO at least works from the idea that it's supposed to resemble some sort of 'race car' with exaggerated proportions. It looks like something I'd see a Hot Wheels car of.
Something like >>28686647 on the other hand is just what I'd call shit taste. Some people might like the whole stance and fender flare thing, some might not. But who in their right mind is a fan of "extremely tacky deformed bodykits with leather-print gold foil wrap"? Not many I don't think.
Personally, I can handle all sorts of rice and various genres of car modifications. The only things I actually call shit taste with no exception are SLABs with those "giraffe poke" wheels (original "84s" are fine, but they went comical with it) and squatted trucks.
>>
>>28687903
liberty walk is tacky as fuck
>>
>>28687906
Maybe, but quite a lot more people enjoy their style than whatever style >>28686647 is, which is kind of my point. I don't mind them. Wataru Kato, the dude behind Liberty Walk is also pretty based, which makes me hate his overdone, riveted fender-flared cars just a bit less.
>>
>>28688007
People literally don't know what they enjoy; it's just shoved down their stupid gullets and they beg for more
>>
>>28688019
This. Your mother doesn't know how much she loves sucking cock until I shove it down her throat
