I remember sitting in the back of my grandpa's Lincoln and was obsessed with the tiny side windows, always thinking "Why are they so small?"
Alot of things, but one things I remember and never forget is these "wing windows". I remember as a kid always wanting to fiddle with these things and I thought they were so cool.when I was allowed to sit in the front passenger seat I was constantly opening and closing these things. it was so cool I recall some adults would use them to flick the ash off the end of the cigarette outside or they would sometimes hold their lit cigarette near it to let the cigarette smoke blow outside
Those ball compasses.
>>28689323the fun part was those adults not understanding airflow and all the smoke and ash just blowing right back into the back seat and you can't say anything because you already have TWO windows open, what more do you want? it isn't even that bad, you'll get used to it, no one will mind you reeking like an ash tray everywherethanks, grandma. i'm going to shit on your fucking grave when you finally kark it
Never got to drive one wit the choke lever
>>28689306I miss manual windows
I loved my friend's mum's 2 door hatchback, no idea what it was. I just thought it was really cool you had to put the seats forward to get in.
Was childhood car and eventually passed to me for my first car that I totaled on 2nd day having it trying to get gas lol (I drove and hit the cement pole divider and then panicked and kept going forward and crushing fucking up the entire driver side of the car and then just sped off back to the house and told my mom someone ran into the side of me and took off of course she knew I was lying Eventually mom got a dodge intrepid 2000 after that and I ended up with a 91 crx dx, drove that until I was 32, so 16 years
tape cassette holders.you really had to have your favourite music ready to go, not really enough room for a big collection lol>>28689329reminds me of the pajero inclinometer.although that pod has a farely basic digital compass.
>>28691076Why? They're a pain in the ass.
>>28694582>I miss my grandmother's home-baked apple pie >Why? Buying a frozen pie from Walmart is much more convenient
>>28694584Wow, what a terrible analogy! If your grandmother's apple pie was so great then maybe you should have saved the recipe so you can make it yourself when she's gone. If manual windows were so popular then manufacturers would still have them as an option.
>>28694589Nta but that's not how it works anymore. Look up what enshittification means. Just because the customer wants something doesnt mean the manufacturer gives a shit about delivering it. They make more money by selling you nanny state slop and selling your data.
>>28694601we’re still talking about hand crank windows here, right? Nobody outside a handful of contrarians want them.
>>28694603They're not offered as options to begin with, so im not sure how you would even assess that.
>>28689306I understand now that they were giant pieces of shit and just automakers being cheap about adding airbags but as a kid I thought automatic seatbelts were cool.
>>28694613they’re offered on fleet vehicles, or at least they were within the decade, and yet individual consumers of trucks will instead overwhelmingly choose the highest trim they can afford, or maybe even one above that.
>>28694629Airbags came in because people wouldn't wear seatbelts. I suppose the automatic ones were there for similar reasons.
>>28691076Manual windows were ass. I busted my knuckles on the door storages compartment from my hand slipping off the handles so many times. Those things broke much more often than modern window switches. You know how many memories I have of people using vicegrips to replace their broken handles? A lot.
>>28689315>>28689306early 70s lincolns has be my favorite classic era car.I saw one at a car show and it was amazing
>>28694685>Airbags came in because people wouldn't wear seatbelts. If you're not wearing a seatbelt airbags make things worse. They aren't soft cushy pillows but small explosive charges that inflate a bag to a really hard pillow. The airbag's job is to stop your head from moving forward as much so your neck doesn't have to. This requires precise timing. Without belt, you arrive in the desired position to stop your head too early and make it way too close to the steeringwheel before the airbag goes off. Then the explosive charge in there punches you in the face harder than Mike Thyson in his prime.
>>28694603Hand crank windows have the fewest points of failure while still being operable to the user. Meaning it's the BEST for the consumer long term ownership. >bbbbut I gotta reach ova to roll da passenger down!Kick rocks, you don't need both windows open only the drivers
>>28694772>roll da passenger downI’ll do you one better. I roll the back windows down for the dog and back up when I get on the highway. That’s not just annoying with manual windows, it’s impossible.

My grandpa died overseas when I was 5 so I never got to meet him.
>>28689306I remember sitting in the back of dad's kingswood and wondering why dad keeps crashing it. i mean driving can't be that hard is it?
