Clean your O2 sensor
My dad's car was throwing that code. Shop wanted 2300 to replace the cat.
I played his o2 sensor in a sonic washer for 5 minutes. No further issues. Thys was 3 years ago

Clear the code.
Drive until it shows pending code.
Record how many miles it took.
Say it took 50 miles to clear the initial checks.
Then 100 miles to go pending.
And 125 miles to flash a code.
Then you know when to get a smog check
In that case 50-99 miles.

There's always small gap before the car will flash another code.
Did that with my corolla for 10 years.
Always passed.
The WA stopped smog checks thankfully.

Buy a spark plug spacer, they’re like 10 bucks on amazon. It goes between your down stream o2 sensor and the cat :)
>>
>>28689465
P0430 is a permanent code you fucking goddamn busrider

here, something like this:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

might pass sniffer but will fail visual inspection.

>>28689504
pls be civil in my thread friend.

>>28689465
my shitty bluetooth adapter doesn't clear codes, maybe I should spring for one of those $100 ones on Amazon.

>>28689447
a bad O2 sensor is a different code, I really wish it was that. sure a bad sensor could contribute to a P0430 but the ECM knows how to recognize a bad sensor too and would throw a sensor code.
>>
>>28689440
There's that Scotty Kilmer trick by running your catalytic converter hot with lacquer thinner.
>>
>>28689608
Do they actually do a visual? It’s usually just an odb2 scan.
>>
>>28689608
Check for leaks. Use a temp gun and see how hot it gets.
It could still be an 02 sensor that's inside the cat

Just when I thought this place couldn't get any dumber.
Anon, damn Bro.
You think OBD2 codes are permanent?
who the hell told you that?

I don't know if you guys are just trying to put out bait or are legitimately that stupid.
>>
>>28690550
with emissions codes you have to drive the car a certain time for it to clear
>>
>>28690756
And it will only clear if it's fixed, clearing it won't clear it until the ECU detects it working properly.
You will fail emissions test if you simply clear it.
>>
>>28689440

I have obvious smoke coming out my Mustang's driver side exhaust and a p0430 code
the other day I just cleared the code outside the inspection facility then had my car inspected, went through with no problems.
>>
>>28690802
I assume clearing it might give you however many miles or hours of drive time until the ECU performs the test that triggered the CEL in the first place again
for a P0430 code it's dependent on the readings from the downstream O2 sensor. the ECU might accept bad readings for a bit, but not for very long, before throwing the code again, which is how >>28690808 passed.
>>
I had some plug wires fail and cause a misfire that burnt up my bank 2 converter, now I'm trying to find a replacement in Jew York but it is literally illegal to buy any of them because nobody wants to pay the yearly extortion fee on a 4 year only manifold cat from 20 years ago, not even the OEM.
>>
>>28690812
nta but that doesn't work in many states as clearing the code will result in an "incomplete" or "not ready" for that emissions monitor until it completes its checks after however many drive cycles your car needs. depending on the jurisdiction you can get away with one or two incomplete monitors but I wouldn't bank on it without checking your local statutes.
>>
>>28690933
Like what I said before.
there's a buffer zone with mileage where the ECU hasn't fully thrown a code yet but has run enough to avoid failing a smog test.

It's like you dumb fuckers have never worked on cars before.
>>
>>28690802
Not true, I'd clear P0420 codes before going to the emissions humiliation station and they'd always pass me. Now I don't live in a shithole leftist state so I don't worry about emissions testing.
>>
>>28691858
environmentalism is a right-wing position, retard
>>
>>28692488
mommying people over odb2 codes is a cunty progressive position.
>>
>>28691821
not how it works. I have to reflash my ECU every time I have to do an emissions test because my tune sets several monitors incomplete to not show a CEL. if I showed up to a test like that it would be an automatic fail even though nothing in the hardware should cause it to fail. same goes for when you just clear codes. that buffer zone before the complete drive cycle doesn't show as a "pass" for that monitor, retard.
