Who else chose no car payment? What do you drive? >t. 2008 Toyota Highlander
>>28689731There's nothing wrong with a car payment, provided it's within your budget.
>>28689731I used to drive a Jeep 5.7 Hemi, but the engine blew and they wanted $8k for an engine on a truck worth $10k and I haven't had a car since. I'm currently looking for a $2,000 dollar bucket I can just junk without thinking twice when shit hits the fan.
>>286897312009 hyundai sonata220k miles. I don’t get the hate for gook mobiles.>>28689737You aren’t getting a running car for $2k post covid. $5k minimum unless you get lucky.
>>28689731>2010 Mazda 3 hatchStill on my first car. I just fix little bits and pieces that I break on the car, but otherwise it's been unfailingly reliable. I recently repainted some of the oxidized basecoat and redid the clearcoat. Not particularly difficult from what I've done, but I've done lots of rattle can jobs in the past so I guess I'm taking that for granted.I keep thinking I should install a police push bumper with the wraparound pit bars. The suspension is already uprated from a prior mod, so it would be fine to add it on. It would be a $1100 job that outvalues the car itself, but there's been a significant uptick in wildlife these days and one day I will roll 1d20 and I just won't brake in time.
>>28689745>I don’t get the hate for gook mobiles. It's that way for every "value-oriented" brand. It attracts lots of drivers who tend to neglect their car, not to mention the stigma of driving a poor person's car.Hyundai did run into trouble with their 4-cylinder Theta engines for being shitty, and there's no excusing that, but there's a big gap between 2011-2016 where the cars went to the scrapper early due to engines seizing up or lighting the car on fire from the overheating engines.
>>28689731I got a phenomenal deal on a Z Performance but had just bought a dip a week beforehand, so I financed it.I then paid off the entire loan in 2 months.
>>28689748Do the police bars stop a deer from going through the windshield? Genuine question. My aunt had one go through the windshield on her civic but was fortunately okay the buck however was very much not okay
>>28689756>Do the police bars stop a deer from going through the windshield? Genuine question. If it's a car, probably not. Push bumpers will add about an extra foot of contact distance and that could potentially make a difference on reducing the severity of the impact, but the real answer is that you need a brick wall of a grille to resist that kind of a hit, which means SUV or pickup truck with a big-ol' fuck off steel bumper if you plan on buck breaking an actual buck.

>>28689755thats cool bro. Stocks are the J mans game imo. The house always wins one way or another, even if you're rich.
>>28689748Nice. I really wanted a mazda3 for the longest time before I settled on the highlander. Most of them were not cared for in my area though unfortunately. I also realized I like having more space to haul things since I do actually move around big cumbersome shit all the time. How do you like the space of it? Did you buy a 6 speed one?
I drove a 2010 honda accord from 50k to 330k and it cost me pretty much no repairs so I took on a ferd maverick payment, $420 per month payment and I'm saving about $200 per month in gas so it's making sense
I drive a 2019 WRX but if they gave me 2.9% or something I'd be making payments on it still
>>286897312017 gti autobahni had to pay it off after it got repossessed while i was in the hospital. fuckers stole everything out of it too, including my accessport.
>>28689797>How do you like the space of it?I constantly run out of cargo space and/or payload capacity. I have a Carpod cargo carrier to add 13 cubic feet of space. I also added rubber coil spring lifters to reduce suspension sag. It's good for 1800 lbs of payload at current configuration. I'm planning on adding more rear spring lifters to increase it to over 2200 lbs. With that said, the 3 strictly constrains how much stuff I'm willing to own, since I tend to move often and only carry what I can fit in the car. It's probably why I don't spend more money. If I can't plan on fitting it in the car, I don't buy it. This means my life is limited to 56-62 cubic feet of cargo space.>Did you buy a 6 speed one?5-speed auto.

>>28689731I drive a 30 year old nissan. I have never had a car payment. I just pay cash and leave.
>>2868973196 Miata. NA prices are kinda retarded nowadays, but you still can't do much better for a sub-10k vehicle.
>>286897311998 4runner, currently have over 271k miles.
>>28689919>currently have over 271k milesWhat's it like having a car with that many miles? I foresee that I will easily hit the 200k+ mile mark in a year or two.
>>28689731>2012 Porsche Cayenne S>>28689760As a Texan, I can tell you first hand that no size of bars will be big enough to stop a deer. They will find a way to fuck your vehicle up every damn time.
>>28689928Either you've become good friends with a local mechanic or you just keep on truckin' with regularly scheduled maintenance like you have for the past 100k miles

>>28689930>They will find a way to fuck your vehicle up every damn time.I've seen some heavier bumpers take the impact but leave the truck okay, I don't expect a small car to survive a deer impact, it's a consumable item in that scenario. I'll still try the push bumper anyways when a good deal pops up.>>28689933>you just keep on truckin' with regularly scheduled maintenance like you have for the past 100k milesSounds like that's my future then. Can't say I won't get my money's worth.

>>28689737>buh it costs more than the cars worth to fix itGuarantee you'd have to spend more than $8k to get a comparable vehicle. Just get a new motor and keep that sucker rollin
>>28690692Yep, this >>28690672 is a $5k car with an $8k fresh engine in it. No regrets
>>286897311994 Camry. It cost me around 3500 dollars, and since it had done less than 150k km when i bought it, it qualified for insurance that covers the whole driveline which is nice.
>>286897312009 honda accord, payed in full for $6650.00 back in 2019. It still drives but the rust terminal.
>>286897312004 Camry SE with the 3.3 liter 3MZ-FE v6. I’m about to roll over 150k miles, got it with 134k on it. I’ve done a little work to the front end like the CV axles and the inner/outer tie rods on both sides but the thing has been super reliable. Good little family car, plenty of room for Sam’s/Costco trips and a car seat fits in it easily. I’ve had two black stone oil analysis done on it and both have come back perfect. The only thing I dislike about the car is I average about 18-19mpg in the city and about 25 highway so very lackluster fuel economy. Tradeoff for being reliable I suppose
For once in my life I lucked outHad a 2008 Mercedes CLS 550 that I took a loan on, it was a great car but a very complex machine and was always just one big malfunction away from being a total financial anchor on top of the payments and general cost. Then an old lady crashed into it while it was parked outside my house, insurance company considered it totaled and gave me way more for it than I paid.As a result was able to pay off the rest of the loan and straight up buy a sweet but comparatively simple and cheap to run 05 Mustang GT
