electric cars are fake and a scam
>6000 lbs
>300 mi range on highways and that's assuming they are flat and it isn't winter
>no buttons just screens
>touch panels on steering wheel even

I am waiting for the first manufacturer to come up with a new luxury car where the luxury is having real buttons again that you can press, slide, and spin.
It also feels like these shady new brands with funding from the Middle East or China are distracting from reasonable development on new platforms, interiors, and engines for gasoline powered cars. EVs are one big psyop.
It kinda makes sense for small city cars used in the city but even then, hybrids make more sense. Batteries are just too heavy and not charge dense enough to work in cars. It takes 2 minutes to refill a gas car. 20-40 minutes for electric - and that's assuming you find a working charger.

NO, YOU DONT UNDERSTAND
ELECTRIC CARS ARE THE FUTURE, AND CARS FROM THE FUTURE ONLY HAVE ONE BIG IPAD GLUED TO THE DASH.
ITS THE LAW!!!
>>

>touching your phone while driving is illegal
>toucing your touch sensitive steering wheel and dash iPad is totally legal cuz you have to use those to adjust the headlights and cruise control

it makes a lot more sense when the charger is in my garage, and the electricity i get is free from the sun.

the batteries have environmental costs to build them, the solar panels have costs to manufacture them and mine the raw materials for both
>charger is in my garage
great if you never have to go more than 250 mi away

>the batteries have environmental costs to build them, the solar panels have costs to manufacture them and mine the raw materials for both
is this supposed to be some sort of rebuttal? everything costs money. I'd rather front that cost once and then not have to worry about paying the oil cartels ever again. also my solar panels pay for my fridge and AC electricity, not just my car.
>great if you never have to go more than 250 mi away
yes, which is 95% of my driving. i also have a gas car as my second vehicle for when i go on longer road trips.
>>

There are huge discussions among city planners ans civil engineers about road life as the average weight of vehicles has increased over the past 25 years, but especially so considering electric vehicles. It’s a serious tax allocation and engineering problem that is being considered by major metropolitan areas
>>
>>28692522
its not about money its about environmental cost and practicality
>i also have a gas car as my second vehicle for when i go on longer road trips.
they are toys for the rich
we shouldn't be wasting all these funds on dedicated evs that serve so few people
>>
>>28692541
The smelting of lithium and manufacturing of modern batteries releases the same amount of co2 that a regular car would release in 5 years of typical use.
>>
>>28692541
If you're going down this route then we should make it way harder to get a license and massively expand public transit.
>>
>>28692553
That would be the sensible thing to do, but he doesn't actually care about either the environment or practicality. He just wants his car to go "vroom" and is inventing retarded arguments for why that is "good" and everything else is "bad".
>>
>>28692553
>and massively expand public transit.
well the government should have its own version of uber except its more about on demand transport and group travel too
and hell we should finance the development of newer better minivans and vans too

>>28692558
no, i think development of gas vehicles has stagnated so EVs can be developed that serve the needs of few and are wildly impractical
>>
>>28692563
>development of gas vehicles has stagnated so EVs can be developed
Development of gas vehicles has stagnated because we are reaching the practical limits of efficiency with both gasoline and diesel engines.

>that serve the needs of few and are wildly impractical
I'm not a big fan of EVs, but but the world's #1 or #2 best-selling car for 3 years straight has been a Tesla. You can hardly claim they "serve the needs of the few".
>>
I really just don't want an EV and for some reason that makes certain people seethe. i don't get it
>>
>>28692427
They're only worth it for the small amount of people who travel more than 15000 miles per year and only drive less than 50 miles to work every day.
I will drive my gas honda until the wheels fall off, which won't be for another 30 years.
>>
>>28692611
EVs sell for 10-20k more than gas powered cars. It's sort of a way to try to raise car prices.
>>
>>28692541
>they are toys for the rich
oh so everything else that you’ve posted up to this point is sour grapes, got it.
