In my Maverick hybrid I don't feel the engine at all, nor does the engine RPM even really indicate performance. But you have electric torque down low at all times and it's way more responsive than waiting for an engine to spin up. In a hybrid 4 cylinder like this you're fast for 2 seconds and then you're back to being a shitbox, but in typical driving the 2 seconds of super power is all you need to get up to speed.MPGs in hybrids are way better than EPA ratings both highway and in city of you drive them properly, which is basically stab the pedal a bit to get up to speed and then glide with the ICE off and using electric mode / passive regen braking to maintain speed. On the highway when you're alone just go 10 above the limit then coast in electric down to 10 below the limit and repeat until it will no longer do it from the battery being low. I get 50 highway all the time and it's rated for 34.
