Higher repossession rates are not a bad economic indicator. It's just an indicator of more people per capita that don't have an IQ high enough to manage a budget. If they boughts cars they could afford and didn't blow all of their discretionary income on black and milds and hookers them they wouldn't have their cars repossessed.
>>
I was a repo man for a while, definitely the most interesting job ive ever had.

Right so what happened around 2008? People were low IQ but then when the economy recovered they became high IQ and then low IQ again conveniently just when there's massive red flags signalling an impending recession again?

we never actually recovered from 2008. Obama just started printing infinite bailout money to hand out to every company that failed to try and prop up the economy, and then Trump and Biden continued the scheme because the way government works is once a program is in place it becomes entrenched in the bureaucracy and thus becomes untouchable.

Aside from dividend bearing stock and a few oddball classes, most stocks values are entirely speculative in nature and completely divorced from the performance of their namesake companies except by people paying more or less based on perceived performance. They're like baseball cards in that way; they only have more value when a player does well because someone thinks they should. They should not be taken as an indicator of economic health before a bubble bursts.

Anyone posting about dividend stocks is a midwit.
>>
>>28695129
Au contaire
Non dividend paying stock has no intrinsic value. Dividend stocks can be priced relative to bonds.
>>
>>28694620
That anon is correct.
Anyways,

>>28694363
We demand stories.
>>
>>28695196
Market risk premium, you can’t price them to bonds because you are exposed to market risk premium. Bonds don’t have that type of risks. Especially if they are govt issued.
>>
>>28694622
The entire point is to counterbalance the Might with public say to ensure that it isn't misused. No person of at least average IQ looks at militaries killing children or cops suplexing elderly people into the pavement and goes "well they were stronger, so it's fine."
>>
>>28695216
Yes stocks carry more risk than bonds, that’s priced in and hence why they usually pay more than bonds, especially every where else in the world where they often pay 5-7% even in the zero interest rate days.
Non dividend stocks are a joke. You literally get none of the profits of the company you partially own, just the expectation of being to sell it to someone else for more. No different than a baseball card.
>>
>>28695393
Yea i'm saying dividends stock aren't compensating you for the risk of being exposed in the equity markets. don't tell me you're one of those retards who hype up yields but ignore total returns lmao.
>>
>>28695412
A stock market that’s mostly dividend stocks wouldn’t be nearly as volatile because they’re based on actual earnings and real payouts. Look at Europe and Japan. They’re much more stable because if a company is paying out 5% at the current price, there’s no reason for the price to drop. Whereas in America it’s all based on hype and anti-hype. Tesla can be worth more than Toyota because they might print money with robotaxis one day, whereas Toyota has been paying out cold hard cash for decades.
>>

Why would anyone even want to own bonds?
>>
>>28694607
>hello fellow auto enthusiast, want to go commit a terror act today?
>>
>>28695667
Nope, absolutely retarded take. Look at april dividends stocks and etfs did the same type of drawdown as any other stock. Look at Toyota.

Let me guess you think ford is a good investment LMFAO. So my point still stands you’re not getting compensated for your risk and you get taxed by the govt for distributions.
>>
>>28695912
They generally don’t draw down as much as none dividend stocks, but yes any stock can draw down. The difference is you still get dividends even when the price is down.

Ever wonder why Warren Buffet holds on to stocks like Coca-Cola long after they stop growing? It’s the dividends. I did the math once and he was getting nearly his original investment back every year in dividends.
>taxes
it literally makes no difference, you still pay capital gains when you sell.
>>
>>28696041
You pay a tax drag on distribution, you pay for that shit every 3 months. I pay it when I sell. I am in market indexes and don’t plan to sell until i’m in retirement.

When you add that all in together your total returns are less than the S&P 500. If you really wanted a more stable portfolio you would be in bonds, specifically any municipal type bond fund. Shit tax fre and distributions are monthly. Principal stays flat.

I’m sorry you can’t understand market risk, but you’re getting played. Also buffett gets to trade in insurance pools, you do not.

Also buffet never invested in tech but jumped in to Apple once everyone else jumped in so he laggard on that and he warned young people multiple times what he invested in may not be the best thing for you to invest in. 401(k), roths and hsa did not exist for a good portion of time he was trading.
>>
>>28694268
>>28694232
The American economy has been systematically dismantled by an international cabal of financiers in collaboration with American moneyed interests who care only about making their stack as big as possible before they die, even if it absolutely guts the US in the process.

The gift will continue, and we're not coming back until we remove them from power completely.
>>
>>28696051
The tax drag is non existent because even if hypothetically dividends not paid increases the value of the stock you’re paying the same taxes when you sell. It’s all the same in the end.

I never argued dividend stocks perform better than non-dividend stocks. Just that they have actual intrinsic value and can be more accurately priced than non-dividend stocks. Although I do think that people often underestimate the performance of dividend paying stocks. Which is why I brought up the coke example. Since the dividend can change unlike a bond’s coupon, you can wind up being rewarded for the additional market risk that you can’t be with bonds.

>tax advantage accounts
Kind of makes moot your whole point about taxes.
>>

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DRALACBN
https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/DRCLACBS
delinquency rates are rising because banks/rates tightened so much '19/20/21 and reduced risk by a large margin
as things have returned to normal, so have loans and the delinquency rate is rising back to normal
>>
>>28696357
>you’re paying the same taxes when you sell
not necessarily, short term vs long term
>>
>>28696376
Dividends are pretty much always long term. Dividends you only need to own the stock for like 60 consecutive days from the ex date for it to be taxed as long term.
>>
>>28696357
Also
>municiple bonds
they’re priced accordingly. I did the numbers once and the difference was insignificant. Unless you’re in a vary high income tax bracket it makes no difference.
Also interest and bond coupons are always taxed as income. Never capital gains.

>apply for repo man job, get hired on the spot because "you have the perfect car for this"
>basically become a spotter, I am supposed to go out and find these cars and either get the keys and take the car or call the guy with the truck
>since I will need a second person with me, they pair me with a black ex-con
>so we figure the best thing to do is to look the part, a clean cut white guy and a clean cut black guy in black leather jackets
>everybody, and I mean EV-ERY-BOD-Y who sees us rolling around Chicago thinks we're cops, like plainclothes investigators or something, I guess
>ex-con partner finds this endlessly hilarious
>stop lights and speed limits become optional, we just wave at the cops and they wave back, convenience stores and drive-throughs either give us half off or just straight up free shit
>as a rule, we never tell anyone we're cops because that's impersonating, but we can't be held accountable for what people assume

So that sets the stage. A black and a white guy rolling around the south side of Chicago from 10 PM to 6AM in a plain white CVPI with antennas and a spotlight.
>>
>>28696475
Now, mind you, this is all pre-obama times. So we didn't get shot at or anything, but still. Kind of sketchy doing this but we were young and dumb. 100% chance I would not own an ex cop car these days.

>resort to some minor B&E, trying to peek into garages any way we could. Sneaking over fences, even using a pry bar to pry open garage doors enough to see inside

>like, fuck, this is dangerous
>but if we spotted the car, it was knock knock, give us the keys, don't wanna hear your bullshit
>this is where the whole look like cops thing helped, everyone we found didn't give us shit
>>
>>28696505
I mean, they didn't give us any trouble. Just maybe some whining while they worked over the keys and opened their garage door

The most interesting stuff was just the sort of things you would see in the middle of the night in the ghetto. Cracked out whores, people robbing shit, people getting their ass beat, shit like that.

Since I grew up in an upper class white suburb, it was like visiting another planet
>>
>>28696512
*forked over

>about a month on the job
>getting better at it, but at the end of the day once you figure in expenses it's like a minimum wage job
>one where you're risking your life and working the graveyard shift too
>decide although the "everyone treats me like a cop" thing is mildly entertaining and the free shit is nice, ultimately it's not a job with a future and I should move on

In the process I learned I didn't want to be a cop, though. You couldn't pay me enough to deal with the dregs of society. Fuck that.

>stopped fucking around, went back to school, got my degree, got a career
>>
>>28696519
I guess that at the end of the day I don't really have any stories that are that interesting to anyone but me. At least, the repo angle of things was pretty mundane outside of the B&E and getting yelled at by sleepy old people.

But a QRD of the interesting stuff I did see:
>a tire shop getting cleaned out by a row of thieves that were rolling the tires to each other from inside the shop to a truck in the street
>multiple instances of drug addicts stumbling around in the middle of the street, dancing, acting like they were in a downpour of stones, waving their arms around, general crazy-ass behavior
>that time I almost wrecked because some asshole stole a manhole cover
>a hobo getting a blow job from another hobo just out there on the sidewalk like it was just what people do
>a crowd of teenage girls having a random street party at 2 am
>drug dealers doing the oop and getting lost asap when they noticed us, reminiscent of Grandpa Simpson visiting the vaudeville show
>successfully having a conversation with a retired cop convenience store owner without telling him we were cops but not having to correct his assumptions and tell him we *weren't* cops as he gave us about 40 bucks of free shit
>watching what looked like a closing time bar argument over a woman turn into a street brawl, just dudes swinging and women shrieking and demanding we do something

Shit like that. Things you normally don't see in tony old Barrington.
>>
Oh, and one last thing. Growing up i thought I wanted to be a cop. So I had a ham radio, listened to a police scanner a lot, collected cop trinkets, did ride-alongs and even did a stint in the police explorers, which is like police preschool for teens. So I kind of knew what to do to appear and sound very cop-like.

It was a phase. I'm over it now.
>>
>>28696041
I think the same.
>>28696051
>don’t plan to sell until i’m in retirement
But what if there's a downturn right when you reach 60? I think the other anon is arguing that when stock prices depend entirely on hype they can move in whatever direction.
