Realistically, the Golf 8.5 R is the best currently on sale do-it-all car that won't break your bank.
Add a big rear sway bar and get the alignment done and you will even have fun!
>>
There's a reason VWs are so cheap Anon, they'll get you back within 150,000 miles.
>>
>>28695252
as a kraut, we typically sell cars around the 100k km (62k miles) mark. I guess theres a reason for this lol
>>
>>28695253
That would last an American about long enough to save up for the next car.

As an American, we can goto 110k mi before the ESL light always stays on, the sunroof has leaked into the fusebox/headliner, the plastic waterpump needs replacing, and the turbo is shot.

I wish i were exaggerating, just dumped a couple Sportwagens, one w/ the problems mentioned above, while the other one cracked the oil pan (plastic of course) and a constant chasing down of engine codes.

Stay away from the tsi engines and any VW w/ a sunroof. Just replaced the waterpump on one, a complete joke of a design and nightmare to get at. I won't buy another VW.
>>
>>28695342
what other alternatives are there? giulia q4 which is likely even more of a hassle, some sort of xdrive bmw - same, audi - same. amg a45 or whatever its called - same. we dont even have the wrx over here.
>>
>>28695342
TSI engines gen 3 and above are fine you wrenchlet. 110k on my 2017 still on my original water pump and tuned for 80k of those miles. My alternator bearing went out from revving it high because I had the redline pushed up to 7200 and the plastic clutch slave started leaking at 100k but those are the only issues I've had. Have you considered not driving it like a pussy and doing preventative maintenance?

I'm done w/ the Germans, my mom's BMW has started throwing codes left and right as well. The only reason she bought a BMW was b/c of all the shit she went thru w/ her previous Mercedes - ball joints would only last 30k mi (a 70yr old woman at the helm), a constant surging i could never trace and a host of other crap i forget.

It only had 50k on it when shit went downhill. Kept it until 120k but something needed chasing down like every 3mo. We used to get 300k out of Mercedes, at least those built prior to 95. She had a 99 diesel that was a sign of things to come...rusted before our eyes and don't get me started on having to replace those o-rings in the fueling system...like WTF Mercedes???

I had a 2013 Jetta w/ the old 2.0 and i've done 0 to it other than change the oil. Just gave it to my nephew who turned 16, hopefully it'll get him thru high school.

Only alternative is to buy Japanese...but they lack soul and from things i've been reading on here, they aren't what they used to be either.

And i've always felt that Japanese suspensions lack sidebite/feel, esp felt in the rain. A much safer drive, the Germans. Currently considering a Ridgeline that will have to last me 20yrs. Would get a new Miata but the Ridgeline is the same money.

I never get more than 20k out of a set of tires or brakes. Sportwagen was a hoot on off-ramps and gravel roads.

I am Mr. Preventive Maintenance guy, seldom do i sell a car before it hits 300k. But you are right about 1 thing, i should've checked the pvc, that is what cracked the oil pan.

Just wait until you replace the waterpump and get back to me. Was a 15min job on my '65 Dodge, close to 4hrs on the vw the 1st time i did it. Got it down to 2.5 the 2nd time around. Godspeed my friend.

Based.
If a man doesn't have sufficient vehicles that allow him to tailor his drive to his mood each day of the week, can he even call himself a man?
Does he also only own one pair of socks? One shirt that "does it all"?
How has this wretch debased himself to such a lowly state?
Tragic.

diesel golf 8 my beloved. nearly 200k kilometers since I bought it in 2021 and not a single visit to the mechanic except the first oil change at the dealership

>200k kilometers

is this the euro maintenance schedule I keep hearing about?
>>

It has 95% of the passat's cargo capacity, same ea288 evo engine as the passat, it's shorter and lighter
he wagon passat is a fucking bus and awful to drive in the city meanwhile the golf is a joy
>>28699749
we do but the dealership will take three damn days to change the oil and run whatever garbage they need and I simply can't wait, I need my car at home every day
it takes me 30 minutes to do a full maintenance by myself
>>
>>28698529
>can't tow or transport furniture or 6+ people
In my country it's rated to tow 1700 kg if the trailer has brakes, or 750 kg if it doesn't. So you can technically at least transport some furniture in a cute little cart.
Don't think it's legal to put people in said cart though.
>>

you can put people there in portugal
