Welcome to the Halloween edition of Weekend Wrenching General! ITT we conquer the automotive horrors of our cursed rides. Whether you're chasing an Electrical Gremlin that drains your battery every night, a Death Rattle in your engine block, or you're just trying to exorcise a stuck caliper, post your trials and tribulations here.

Don't let your project turn into a Junkyard Horror Story.

Had to remove the battery tray just to get this one bolt out lol

Anyone here uses the induction heater for rusty bolts and nuts? What should I look for when buying one? Are all-in-one, or the separate ones better? How much power do I really need?

I'm still confused how these even work. They head up the heat of the bolt, but arent you supposed to heat up whatever the bolt goes in to?

>>28697874
>everything is mounted crooked
>self tapping screws in to the cars body
>random holes without grommets for speaker wire
>sealing gaps around speakers with duct tape
>wires far longer than needed
>no tessa tape
>nothing is protected from cargo
>laughably fuck huge power wires for no reason
you should be ashamed of this workmanship. also are you capable of ampacity calculations? The XR601-1 amp is 400 watts which at 12V is 34A which you can do with 8 gauge wire.

>I'm still confused how these even work. They head up the heat of the bolt, but arent you supposed to heat up whatever the bolt goes in to?
You heat up the head of the bolt, it expands and hopefully breaks off all the rust and crust
>>
>>28697886
Here it is with my upward firing Rockford P3.
>>
>>28697986
The rust that makes bolts difficult to remove isnt on the head though, they're on the threads. and if its not a blind hole, a ton of the part of the bolt sticking out the end. i would think heating the fuck out of the head would just make ths steel softer and easier to round

>>28698036
again, a terrible job, you could at least have put it on that shelf in front of the amps so you could use your trunk, and to prevent cargo from fucking up the wiring on the amps.

now post what car you have this installed in, and more importantly what battery and alternator you have.
>>
>>28698054
>more importantly what battery and alternator you have.
Here you go
>>
>>28698087
congrats on a picture for ants, and no text. with that said given you dont have dual batteries, you dont have an AGM battery, you're likely running a stock alternator, and you cant run these amps at full power and running those fuckhuge cables was just a larp. given your motor takes 5w-30, your car is at least 15 years old. given you have a mechanical throttle body, your car is at least 20 years old. and given your radiator hose has a worm drive clamp, someone without a pair of hose clamp pliers has been working on it. at least you're putting your money in to something that matters, a low end large sub in a shitbox

a panther body aparently. so let me guess you're in your mid 20s, and are now the fifth owner of a police interceptor 1990s
>>
>>28698122
If you zoom in on the alternator you can see it's 300amp. The battery is AGM. I did eventually switch to two 12s, a 5-channel amp, and dual battery. This is the best picture i can find at the moment.

It's time to get the bus ready for a long road trip this winter. Still a lot to do to make sure it isn't a total death trap, but it's slowly getting there. Got all fluids changed today and all the tail light wiring fixed. Still have to go through all the brakes, wheels, air lines, and tires.

isn't it good to have some slack in case of repairs or splicing?

I started to do my spark plugs last weekend on my Impreza. I did the passenger side and I noticed a little bit of oil in the spark plug tube, but nothing from the cylinder. So I decided to put the plugs back in and get the parts to do both the valve cover and spark plug gaskets on each side.

It was going pretty good, did the whole passenger side, then did the drivers side. Last thing I need to do is remove the drivers side spark plugs.

>Start to loosen
>Won't loosen
>Starts to make a little bit of creaking noise while turning

I am ascasred anons. This car has almost 90k miles on it and either the spark plugs were literally never done or some retarded ape with the force of 100000 suns installed them incorrectly before me. I am considering leaving them in and driving it to the shop and asking them to replace
>TWO
>FUCKING
>PLUGS
because I don't want to be dealing with two cracked off spark plugs. I have never dealt with a cracked plug but if you can't get an extractor tool in there - heads are on the side since its a subaru - you're fucked and you're pulling the whole engine aren't you.
>>
>>28699231
Hose them in penetrating oil and work them gently out. Plugs creak sometimes cause of the metal gasket, it's unlikely they're actually going to snap. But if they do, worst case, you make an access hole your fender well to take the head off to extract.
>>
>>28698054
>The rust that makes bolts difficult to remove isnt on the head though, they're on the threads.
The heat from the head of the bolt propagates down the whole bolt and compresses the rust on the threads. You wait until the bolt cools to put a socket on it. Actually the tempering from the heat somewhat hardens the bolt head.

Was able to get air in these old tires so i can drive it to get new ones. Wiped all the grease off of her, grabbed 5 quarts of royal purple and a filter. Gotta grab plugs and coolant to do a flush tomorrow.

so it will shear off?

went to look at a peugeot 301 but it had the 1.2. wifey is unhappy to be seen in a 309 but I hope she gets over it, newer cars are not common in our budget. Going to see a mk 2 focus, not familiar with European fords, thoughts?
>>
>>28699496
Doesn't really happen, in my experience. It's more of a case hardening that keeps the flats from rounding over. If it shears after induction heating, it was going to shear no matter what.

Not looking forward to fixing the oil leak but it needs to be done.

(poorly) replacing a car battery, a cabin air filter, and noticing that you're leaking oil is worthy of posting on the internet about now?
