>talking to someone
>cars come up
>He says "I really like the Silvia S15"
>I respond by saying that I like the Hillman Imp
>He asks what that is
>I show him a picture
>I get laughed at and get called a tastelet
Why do people want the automotive equivalent of a toaster oven over one of Britain's most important cars?
>>
>>28698026
>talking to someone
>cars come up
this is the step where you're supposed to either kill them or kill you
>>
>>28698026
I don't know which of the two cars you mentioned this one is but it's cute and I like it.
>>
>>28698032
British rear-engined RWD economy car. They're cute, nostalgic.
>>
>>28698032
Hillman Imp

I sometimes post about them. I just think that they are neat. RR and come in a number of styles (including a van). They cost a fraction of a Mini of similar vintage. I am saving up for either one of those or a Reliant Rebel right now.
>>
>>28698026
It's like you took all the dogshit aspects of a mini, a lada, and a ford escort without the charm or recognizability of any of them
>>
>>28698026
Lmao you fucking tastelett. How long does it take that pile of britbong garbage to get down the quarter mile?
>>
>>28698119
21.6 seconds, but that is not the point. The Imp was a successful rally car for a time, you know, and in all honesty, not every car should be fast. I would rather a car to make me feel happy, otherwise we would all be driving bland (yet fast) cars.

He didn't call you a "tastelet," you liar.
>>
>>28698189
Alright, he said that I have no taste in cars whatsoever. His words exactly. I just said tastelet, since it is a buzzword of sorts on 4chan.

Jensens have always been nice cars, by the way.
>>
>>28698195
>Alright, he said that I have no taste in cars whatsoever. His words exactly.
Geez, what a fag. The S15 is cool and all, but it doesn't exactly scream discerning taste. Personally I hate the Sprite, but I wouldn't call someone that liked it a tastlet. That guy is just a goober. Imp looks neat, by the way.

I’m one of the few zoomers who likes muscle cars when most everyone else my age gravitates towards initial D. How do you think I feel when someone laughs at me for liking the old galaxies and falcons. “lol that shit can’t even turn”. Younger generations aren’t going to be as aware of history as older ones. I see two icons of Americana, they see something old and yucky.
>>
>>28698026
This thread now has me looking at British classics. Great.
>>
>>28698214
need to show them the galaxie 500 racing with all the minis at goodwood
>>
>>28698201
He definitely was. I usually find myself in among the boomers with the cars that I like, but someone has to take care of them sooner or later. At would be a shame to see these machines go.
>>28698214
I don't get it, really with the Jap car thing, but I respect it for what it is. I like the Miata, S2000, the Century and Mitsuokas, though.

I see where you are coming from with American cars. I quite fancy the Hudson Italia myself (if only it got the engine that it deserved).
>>28698217
It is the madness that keeps me sane. ;) Have a Riley 4/72.
>>
>>28698119
>implying it can drive 1/4 mile before breaking down
>>
>>28698358
>Couldn't drive more than 30 miles in my BMWs without *something* going wrong.
>500 trouble and leak free miles in my British Leyland products
What did BL mean by this...?
>>
>>28698217
I've been looking at this Marina for a while, now.

https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-768---1972-morris-marina-18-tc/?lot=50628&so=0&st=Marina&sto=0&au=&ef=&et=&ic=False&sd=0&pp=48&pn=1&g=1

Didn't get a single bid in the last auction, but fuuuuuuck it looks cool. Imagine this thing with a Rover V8 lump in it.

This. Either fight to the death or hide your power level and shut the conversation down.

And this is why we have Camaro posting. The younger generation prefers to wallow in ignorance until they get bullied.

I like both the S15 and the Imp. I got a '68 Corolla to restore.

Interceptor is all well and good but count the gills for the full fat AWD version.
Quattro for the sixties.
>>
>>28698833
It really is the blueprint of modern performance cars. Big, heavy, AWD but with enough power and torque to be fast as fuck and beat the road into submission. Imagine if the M4 Xdrive used the S63 V8 and it would be the modern equivalent.

I find the all the European corvair inspired cars somehow appealing. NSU, Imp, ZAZ.

Thoughts on the Clan Crusader? It uses Imp parts as donor components, but was not a kit car, despite being built like one.

Clan made two other models, the Clan Clover (using Alfa Romeo Spyder components and the McCoy (which was not produced by Clan, but developed by the engineers at Clan). The McCoy used Mini components.

It sat in a dry garage since the mid 70s, so all liquids. I'll rebuild the engine as a learning exercise. Then I'll get a bodyshop to work on some rust around the front domes.
>>
>>28699150
I see.

I lived in America for a little while and during the time I helped rebuild a Cadillac (1962 or 1963 Park Avenue). It could run, but the starter had issues, plus there was some surface rust (garage kept, but in high humidity). The story was that the original owner received it as a gift and drove it until she was gifted another car (a Cadillac Cimarron LOL). Enough of me rambling on, though.

>one of Britain's most important cars
nigger it's some obscure econo shitbox from 50+ years ago. this is by no measure one of your most important cars.
>>
>>28699234
It was second in sales to the Mini for a time. It was also a popular donor car for kit cars. In addition it had a racing pedigree.

>So why is it not a classic like the Mini
Longevity. The Imp was made for 13 years, as opposed to the Mini's 41 years. That said, the Mini should have probably been killed off in the 1970s too as it was part of what ultimately led to the demise of a large part of the motoring industry.
>>
>>28698972
>I find the all the European corvair inspired cars somehow appealing
This they're all great looking. Minimalist styling is so refreshing right now.
>>
>>28699244
>It was second in sales to the Mini for a time
that doesn't make it one of your most important cars.
>>
>>28699322
I would say so, as during that time, you were either a BMC guy or a Rootes guy (Reliant never sold as many cars with 4 wheels). There was Ford too, of course, but even British Fords were never quite viewed as "British" in the same way that BMC or Rootes cars were.

It was also one of the first cars in Britain to feature pneumatic suspension and an automatic choke. Plus it was the first to have an aluminum block engine, which led indirectly to the Rover V8 (with the help of cooperation).

Perhaps this is a bit autistic of me, but it was a really innovative car for the time.

>Be Mini
>beloved by enthusiasts and casuals alike
>Pioneered modern transverse FWD layout
>Outlived it's successors and refreshed succesfully into the next millennium

>Be Hillman Imp
>Only known to British car autists
>Ancient Rear engine rear drive layout (If you're not Porsche you can't make this work)
>Not particularly the best at anthing, didn't outlive it's contemporaries

Shite comparison.

"I'm not like other girls, I only like the second-most popular niche of the car community!"

>>28698368

All the bad BL products are off the road, making BL more reliable than Toyota at this rate. I have yet to see a BL car these days that isn't meticulously taken care of, which is nice.

>>28698232

Goodwood is some of the best racing one can ever hope to witness, in that it's all different cars with different strengths. They also look great compared to the aero-futurist boxes we drive today.

>most amerocentric negroid mutt calling people nigger

If a car sold this many units, it is important. Even the Marina. End of discussion.

As for the RR layout, though it was archaic it was accounted for in handling by the suspension and its advantage in space was used to provide an engine BMC couldn't have HOPED to put in the Mini. For all the praise we give it the A-series was still an ancient powerplant hailing back to the second series of the Minor, for god's sake.

>>28701595

That's because most people are vehemently retarded these days and probably couldn't even name a Renault Twingo if it ran them over. If you want actual obscure motoring, look at the Talbot Tagora for a change.
