Probably the most underrated 4wd. Why did it fail in america?
>>28698472>N/A V8>no start stop or cylinder deactivation >bulletproof VK enginebased
Nigsan trucks are highly underrated. The fact that hilux shills completely ignore this and choose to shill some shit from the third world instead has led me to believe they all ride the bus and don’t actually like trucks.
>>28698473>bulletproof I thought these trucks had a really bad dressing flaw ever the egr would suck ceramic material from the cats and send said ceramic material into the intake to sandblast the engine.
>>28698506first time i'm hearing of it, are you thinking of the diesel titans or something? The VK engine is the 5.6 litre used in the y62 patrol/Armada
>>28698472If they're underrated then it's because everyone considers them a 0/10 when theyre really a 1/10
>>28698472>Why did it fail in america? The slightly smaller Frontier is more fun.
People didn't buy it. Hope this helps!
>>28698506Not entirely sure how any egr system can suck up cat ceramic when the egr pipe is hooked to an exhaust header (or turbo downpipe sometimes) and the primary cat is usually about a foot away from the header/downpipe exit
>>28698472It had the weakest towing/payload of its class iirc, and knowing Nissan likes to lag behind everyone else on tech, it's not surprising given how most truck buyers opted for the big 3 and Toyota. They just have more of the creature comforts and gimmicks that truck buyers want. The frontier is a better truck, but aftermarket support is very limited for both. Oh, and resale was probably atrocious too because not many people want a Nissan.
>>28698472I dunno about the trucks, But the heavier vans, that Nissan pushed like crazy and every state agency bought up, have a pretty bad rep.
>>28698472It was priced the same as a Toyota but had no resale value and no "Toyota reliability". It was priced the same as a well equipped domestic truck but didn't have the same features or capability. Then there was the XD which was a """""3/4 ton"""" that had the capability of a domestic 1/2 ton. They just couldn't lock into North America.
>>28698472They went for the “half ton plus” formula with the 5.0 cummins. With the egr and other emissions shit deleted it’s a good motor and gave the Titan a towing capacity in excess of most half ton pickups. If you don’t delete the emissions bullshit, the engine craps itself to death, specifically the sequential turbo system fails dramatically, taking the engine with it. >Americans either want a half ton general utility/field manager pickup or a 3/4 ton har duty truck.Basically it was product placement and a “shit” engine. The gas Titan was outclassed by everyone else as a crew truck, but never nice enough to be a field manager truck. The diesel titan was a cool idea but was viewed as a pseudo-2500 with an unreliable engine if you wanted to be 50 state compliant (awful for commercial sales).
>>28698562I think they are confusing a similar issue from the early VQ VVT motors, where the precat would deteriorate into pretty small sand like grains if you had an overly rich condition. These would get pulled back into the engine and score the walls. But it was confined to the FWD platforms due to packaging constraints where the precat is right at the collector.
>>28698472Nissan would be considered peer to Toyota if they did more frequent generation of their vehicles and stopped being so jew about about critical parts. Every Nissan has at least five sub $50 parts that will give you no warning as to eminent and catastrophic failure. I say this as a current owner of two Nissans
>>28700125Yeah, I heard about this for some VQs, but never the VKs.
>>28701005I remember back in the 90s, nissan was very much considered a peer of toyota in terms of quality. Hell, I still see late 90s maximas and pathfinders on the road from time to time. It’s a shame because the VK56 V8 and the VR38 V6 are superb engines with really quite great design features, they just get put into plastic vehicles.
