This is pretty embarrassing. You can’t even make the Toyota reliability argument because the gr86 can’t turn right without exploding.
>>
>>28702201
good luck finding that GM car. they made a lot of 86s so people flock to them
>>
the most cerebral thread on /o/. all of the good anons of the board will flock for passionate, good faith debate and discussion, I'm sure
>>

I'm not a numbers guy but I'm certain few made more than a few cobalts
>>
>>28702201
the cobalt SS was pretty good. I know this because I drove it in forza and it was pretty good.

I remember I installed an upgraded differential in the front and it fixed the understeer too. I don't know if it can work like that in real life

Honest question:
who cares about burger king times?
If it were for me, I'd just pick the one which suits me more and I think is more fun to drive.
And "fun to drive" is entirely subjective.
>>
>>28702201
The cobalt SS are fairly fast.
way faster than you'd think.

Cobalt SS was a dope car I drove my friends when it was brand new the turbo version and it fucking flew….he wrecked it after 3 months
>>
>>28702201
I'm not really understanding your intent of comparing a 2005 straight line fwd american car with a 2022 nearly 50:50 handling rwd japanese car
>>
>>28702576
>straight line
>held the FWD production car time at the autism ring
Retard, plz.
>>
>>28702576
>muh 50:50 handling rwd japanese car
>slower around a track
interesting argument

Japanese steel is magical
>>
>>28702584
That car was literally not made to chase burger king times. Cobalt SS will pull away on the many straights.
>>
>>28702201
>Completely missing the point of the GR86 altogether.

It is designed for the touge, as the "Downhill" entry. The Supra is the "Uphill" entry. Downhill gravity works in your favor, so you want lightweight and low center of gravity to take the turns at high speed, and extra horsepower/engine size is unnecessary. Uphill you need horsepower.to climb, meaning that the extra weight serves a purpose.

Also, comparing a turbo to a non turbo is retardation. Dropping a turbo into the 86 means it would leave the Cobalt SS in the dust. The Cobalt has already been pushed as far as it can go.
>>
>>28702592
>slower in a straight line than a 2.0L turbo I4
incredible performance
>>
>>28702595
I see this initial d shit repeated every time as cope and there’s never any actual evidence. Just “muh shitbox was designed for a secret sauce road that’s why it loses at everything”
>>
>>28702595
>The Cobalt has already been pushed as far as it can go
I clearly remember builds with lofty hp numbers back in the 2000s.
>>
>>28702576
>nearly 50:50
So not 50:50. Got it.
Why are nips such shit engineers?
>>
>It's another "benchracers think they're making people mad" thread.
I am not surprised at all the Cobalt SS wins on the Borgar Kang. It's a high speed course and they used to fuck up nicer cars in roll races, I lost several races against them. The Miata is for teaching RWD and sliding corners at 20mph.

Lol I just glanced at the thumbnail. The same principle applies to the nu-86, it's just hundreds of lbs heavier.
These cars are under-powered and are for "carrying" speed through corners (or teaching RWD to noobs so they don't kill themselves with something with 450 lb-ft). A faster car can scrub off speed in corners then make up for the time (and more) with power especially with lots of long straightaways.
This shouldn't be surprising. The Cobalt is a straight line monster (was in the '00s anyway) and the borgar kang is a high-speed circuit. Wow, shocking and amazing.
>>
>>28703460
Ah yes. The several second gap on the Nurburgring is due to the cobalt being 0.4 seconds faster in a straight line. (Look up their quarter mile times).
>>
>>28702201
Now imagine with modern tries HAHAHAH JDM famboys would be FUMING
>>
>>28703562
Quarter mile isn't respective of speed on a long open track. Not for low hp cars. They are going faster than their trap speed over probably half of this track.

At the level of cars below super car tier, horsepower is going to be the deciding factor on most tracks let alone one like Nordschleife.

That said I am surprised that it beat it that much, not that 6 seconds or whatever with 2 different drivers is that much on a 12 mile track.
>>
>>28703111
And I can also clearly remember stock turbo Cobalts blowing up from factory, to the point that it made the Dart SRT4 look reliable
>>
>>28703562
Don't forget gearing, which can be used to cheat 1/4 mile times.
The Cobalt SS has a top speed of 155 (limited) for the turbo version, where the GR86 is 140. The turbo allows the Cobalt to keep pulling at high speeds where the BRZ slowly accelerates over 80/90.
It's just not surprising. If anything I'd have expected the time difference to be greater. I'd pick the nu-86 every time because the Cobalt is a FWD understeery shitbox (which is why they all refuse to race from a dig).
>>
>>28703612
GR86 also blow up from the factory.
>>
>erm ackshually the car tuned on the nurburgring and held the fastest fwd production is a """"straight line"""" car
>>
>>28703613
Neither of those cars are even coming close to their top speed on the Nurburgring because of how slow they accelerate past 100 mph. You’re also ignoring the fact that Despite being on 15 year older tires it’s pulling similar skidpad numbers to the gr86, too. Give the cobalt modern tires and the gr86 gets gapped in every corner.
>>
>>28703629
This, the cope is hilarious. Just take the fucking L. GM has the greatest chassis engineers in the world. Losing to them isn’t some grave insult.
>>
>>28703632
Modern tires aren't that different from 20 years ago.
I also don't care. The nu-86 drives like I want a car to, the Cobalt does not (yes, I've driven one with methanol injection). It's really that simple. I have dozens of track hours under my belt, but I really care about powersliding and responsiveness on the street. I like using throttle in corners.
>>
>>28702777
If you don't care about driving dynamics and just want power just get an EV.
>>
>>28703638
If you want to pretend a cobalt is a hellcat to cope with getting btfo on track, get a Miata. At least the horsepower difference and acceleration is more substantial.
>>
>>28703636
>modern tires aren’t that different from two decades ago
>trust me, bro. That slight acceleration difference is what matters. not the single most important upgrade you could make to any old car
Cope of the fucking year, Kek. You could’ve just said you prefer the gr86 and that’s it. Everything else you said was completely pointless.
>>
>>28702584
Burgerking favours good top end with that long back straight.
>>
>>28703680
By all means, drive a GM FWD shitbox with forced induction. See what I care. I know what I like and that ain't it.
