Mountain roads arn't a substitute for going to the track.
You Fags are worse than the cone dodging crowd.
Driving a back road at 75% pace is simply not the same as pushing 100% at a track at triple digit speeds.

If I crash at a track I have to deal with a totaled car not covered by insurance damage to the track, damage to my ego, and a tow.

If I crash on the mountain, I die and it's not my problem
>>
>>28704130
>75% pace
Nothing wrong with keeping it safe
>>
>>28704130
tracks are inconvenient for me as I would have to trailer my car 400-600 miles away to experiance it whereas the road is everywhere and I can drive along it as far as I want to whenever I want to.
plus some tracks really do just fucking suck ass, some of the ones that I have seen have 0 elevation changes or worse they're just drag strips with wide return roads and they use that for the long straight.
>>28704132
I don't pay fucking insurance to drive on the road.
>>
>>28704156
I'm a law abiding cuck, if you have even a single day lapse in insurance you get fines here. All registered cars must have insurance or you need to return the plates. Which is why so many people drive with no plates now.

idk i just have antique tags on every single car I own and I never have to re-register or visit the courthouse.
I'm in a insurance required state but police never ask about insurance paperwork in all the times I have been pulled over.
>>
>>28704130
Mountains will always be MORE fun than the track due to the enviornment and changing conditions instead of a sterilized controlled enviornment where the only fast people are the ones who repeat the same thing the most.

>>28704143
Not only that, but you have enhanced longevity for your machine due to less stress.
>>

Back roads are free, back roads lead to more back roads. I can drive for hours on some great back road in upstate NY.
>>
if I'm racing someone on a track or on a straight highway, assuming all else is equal, I win because I'm a better tuner

if I'm racing someone on a winding road, assuming all else is equal, I win because I'm a better driver

both take skill, but I'm a way better driver than I am a tuner
>>
>>28704130
I was watching some champ series endurance racing and lemons stuff recently, and that seems like a great way to get a TON of seat time in. It looks like it throws you into the race thing. It's got strategy, wheel to wheel and door to door action, breaking and fixing things. And you can drive cool shit that you wouldn't normally see on a road course.
>>
>>28704130
Yes but I'm enjoying a beautiful autumn day, and I wouldn't be at a track.
>>

I only drive mongten rhoads

I don't even care about going fass, I go super slow in str888s and then intentionally try to swing my ass out in corners

My idea of fun is sideways g forces and a loud brapping asshaust. Nothing else matters
>>
>>28704130
Agreed but paying to use a track is also gay. Hows about people just drive their fucking car and be happy with that?

Kind of off topic, but do other people not want to push hard on back roads when ppl try to follow you?
I had some dude in a GR86 crash because he tried to follow me.

I feel semi responsible for it.
I knew a stock 86 on Michelin 4s tires couldn't keep up with me.
>>
>>28704434
it's entirely up to them to decide whether they want to drive beyond their skill level. i once had a minor bit of oversteer trying to chase a bunch of cars as well and that's when i decided i should dial it back because i need to get home alive

Don't blame yourself for the faults of others. You could have gone back to see if he's alright but you're not responsible for how other people drive their cars.

Speaking of touge experiences, once kept up with an '08 Civic Type R on the narrow b roads in my 1.2 8v Clio. At one point we zoomed past some guy coming in the opposite direction with like 10cm of space. Unfortunately he didn't take the route I was going and I didn't want to be that guy who chased him home lol.
>>
>>28704434
Yeah I was following my friend once and could see him pushing beyond his skill level so I backed off.
If they're following you it's different though - you can't worry about the car behind you, unless you're the one who talked them into driving the road and you're showing it to them or something.

NTA but also an upstater and there's two things to keep in mind:
1.) You can't go 55 on a lot of those roads anyway without being at real risk of hurting yourself. There are some real twisty sections up in the Catskills Taconics and Adirondacks, you'll hurt yourself. NY is a really old state full of really old roads and towns and some of the shit that they paved is just downright unsafe and would never fly today; my personal favorite is a hairpin turn on one of my favorite roads that goes right into a stone bridge and if you miscalculate you will go right through/over it into a lake. 55 MPH speed limit.
2.) Everybody fucking speeds up here anyway. Commuters speed, semis speed, the cops speed even. You're really only fucked if you're pushing like 90. I've leapt out of my skin so many times when speeding on a backroad and realizing a cop is coming only for them to rush past me just as fast as I'm going.

The best thing about some back roads is having one all to yourself. It depends on the road in particular, but there's an enjoyably weird one that's attached to my town I never have a bad time driving on. Traffic almost nonexistent, negligible chance of cops, totally unsuitable for big rig routes, and pavement just uneven enough to put off anyone who isn't in a big sedan with a tire and suspension setup that irons it all out rather pleasantly. I suppose the views aren't the stuff of glossy magazines and so-forth, but nothing about them bores me, ever.
>>

>>
>>28706237
*And all of this despite how level the terrain and straight the route is for most of it. Wouldn't go there by day or night, however, without GPS navigation, since a few of the turns are abrupt right angles, and poorly indicated by signs or landmarks.

You act like without this one add on the car is gimped and runs on 2 cylinders because you're a massive fucking idiot. I test drove over a dozen 2 door Porsches with and without sport chrono before determining the feature is a fucking touchier throttle map with an ugly watch in the middle of the dash. The car vibrated less at idle (gay and soulless NVH reduction) because of the active engine mounts. I bought my car after doing a ton of research which included all that seat time. Tracks are a dying breed. We used to have two in our area, a dirt track and a huge superspeedway once used for NASCAR races. The dirt track got shut down because despite being in a rural area it was sued for noise violations, it was overturned in court because the original complainant moved out, but despite an attempted reopening it shut down again soon after. The superspeedway was slated to become a new master-planned community and was to have a big "going away" party but that got cancelled when it became a graveyard for flooded out cars from Houston, then never reopened.
