I'll take the Mini. Preferably the Mark VII from 1996-2000.
>>
>>28711306
If I was guaranteed parts for fixing it, the Citroen would be cool.
However, the Beetle still has 3rd party support to this day due to their popularity and the number of resto projects done to them, plus the amount of tutorials and manuals (in English) available makes it the more attractive option. The mini is a close second for the same reasons.

I'd agree on your rationale as well. I'd want the 2CV but the Beetle or Mini would be easier to live with.

>>
Probably the beetle due to the ridiculous aftermarket.
You can buy a kit to turn your beetle into practically anything with minimal fuss.
Plus it's RWD and fun as fuck during the winter.
Fiat is a runner up, but the 500 is gutless and even the slightest incline are an issue for it.

The fiat is criminally underpowered and extremelly uncomfortable
I think mini would be the most fun, Citroen or VW for comfort

The body is called the Daytona, main difference between it and the Manx are the two larger square headlights put into the body rather than the two circular ones screwed on outside

It's the Type 3 VW, they made them alongside the Beetle engines for the sedans and stationwagons of the same name

The fun part is that if you stick your hand into the cooling fan you get to not have a hand anymore :DDD

What is funny is that they to some degree exist on a spectrum from Baguette to Sauerkraut.
The German offering of high speed, good driving dynamics, and a practical interior with a huge frunk. While the two french horses lets you drive over a field with a carton of eggs somewhere in the car, without you wanting to kill yourself.

Its also a weird era, because a lot of things got postponed for the war, and then the post war rationing.
Which means its not just the shitboxes of the era, its the shitboxes of about 2 eras + massive WW2 tech advancements on top of rationing.
We haven't seen any mainstream OEM actually try anything that interesting, even during the longer Saudi oil embargo.

Super low seating position, limited suspension travel, tight steering. Weighs about 750kg with me and a full tank on board, and you really feel that especially at low speeds. Everything you do with it is just very immediate.
Minis sit on rubber cones instead of springs, and those cones don't have a linear "spring rate", they get stiffer as you compress them. The car felt really skittish before I rebuilt the subframes and gave it an alignment, now it's just planted.

I got a bug in my head about the suspension setup, with how elegant and simple it is. Is it worthwhile for off-road? I doubt it has power to rock climb, though.
I know you can buy new built complete chassis, and I have a pipe dream about building one into a RWD Willy's jeep type off road project

Service intervals (oil, lubrication, etc) are really short because it's an old design. On the 2CV and derivatives you can get decent access by unbolting the fenders. Front brake work is kind of annoying because they're inboard.

You can do light off-roading (this was intended given the shit roads in France at the time). 4wd variants exist but are extremely rare. Pick a late year if you have the choice, or it'll be painful to drive anything other than suburban roads.

My first thought is that it is probably an Innocenti Mini. They built them in Italy to side-step import taxes.

Upon further inspection, it seems to be an Innocenti Mini 1000 (pic). Interesting German odometer above the mirror in that other pic.

I also found out that the Innocenti Coopers have THE best gauges of any Mini ever!
>>
>>28718497
Pic related, an Innocenti Mini Cooper interior.
>>
>>28718499
Also, they developed a successor still based on the mini drivetrain called the Innocenti Mini 90/120. Not sure why British Leyland didn't pilfer the design for themselves. Apparently it was more cramped inside.

P.S. I just remembered that fibreglass bodied Minis were produced in chile for a time. There are pictures of BMC prototyping fibreglass mini shells in the late 60s. I wonder why they didn't swap, because lord knows Minis love to rust.

>>28718542
>Apparently it was more cramped inside.
Nah. It has a Mini floorpan and wheelbase, the main difference is the cabin is a little wider and roof and windows are much taller. A Mini forces you to lean over if you want too look at traffic lights or out the sides like any 50s car, the Innocenti just has much better visibility. And a proper hatch with flip-down rear seats
>>

the mini is the least terrible with good handling and plenty of aftermarket tuning for its engines. It also looks the best.
