They did, these were the cars that gave CVTs a bad name.
I totalled my 2014 base hatch recently and got a decent insurance check, i consider myself lucky to have crashed it before the transmission blew up.
I miss it though, my CVT didn’t have any problems after I had the computer reset, it was a blast to drive. and other than the very serious unfixable problems with the transmission it was dead reliable, only ever changed the oil.

Only the DPS6. Any other transmission was fine. Mine is still running fine after getting the newest TCM.

Murrican car manufacturers just gave up making sedans, I think Ford will keep the Mustang but its like GM and Stellantis are also getting out of it as well- they make the suburban cuck wagons, offroad capable and light trucks.
Reasons being-
>they're not good at it and get smoked in all sectors by Jap or Euro sedans
>light trucks get easier pollution and legal requirements
That's essentially why there's everything under 6000lb and fugghueg faces counts as a light truck in the US, plus to some degree people just don't trust US manufacturers to make a good sedan, hatch or much else worth the money. Been endless recalls, big court cases and a lot of them figured, fuck it. Just buy a Toyota, Honda or BMW instead of waiting for GM or Ford to admit that they have a fucked engine or transmission, then fix it and issue a recall in any reasonable amount of time

All of them have made good and even great cars in the past but its more about the legal side of things than the engineering now
