My generic Kia cuckover is not cool enough to be in anime. Though I did see it in some Icelandic movie of a woman crashing her car.
There are more 996s in anime than I would've expected

It's a GMT400 instead of a GMT800, but I don't think you're going to get any closer than that in anime. The older Escalades were in a metric fuckton of TV shows and movies however. Sopranos/Entourage/Matrix Reloaded/Zombieland to name a few notable ones, not to mention games.
>>28726970The proportions look so fucked
>>28727811indeed. I gotta get my Prizm to be in a better state than it's in though, my Prizm's headgasket has been blown since I inherited the thing and yet somehow the coolant has never crossed into the oil, only oil into the coolant (My theory being that because the oil pressure is higher than the coolant pressure, the coolant cannot contaminate the oil) so as long as it has oil pressure it's fine (there have been a numerous amount of times I've driven it with zero oil on the dipstick though) it's never once given me issues aside from one time where the heater hose had a pinhole leak and all the coolant leaked out of it and the car overheated, other than that it's been minor issues like power steering leaks or blown rear shocks. Surprisingly despite having Toyota's most "Unreliable" transmission (the A131L) it's been extremely reliable, the fluid has never been changed in the car's lifetime (I can tell) and the car doesn't give a single shit. Those Toyota 4A-FEs don't quit. It's been sitting for the past year because I lost my job last year and haven't been able to find anymore mechanic work in my town, but soon it'll be back on the road and I'll be buying rare GSi parts for it (and if the engine's too far gone, a 4A-GE or 7A-GE build would be nice) The engine is not the original engine though, I don't know how many miles the engine has but the chassis has 202k on it

>>28731790damn that's a nice one, I thought about buying an MG or Triumph because they're cheap, neat classic cars where I live, but I don't have space nor patience to deal with them, I'd totally get one though if I had space for one
>>28732477Thanks! As for owning one, it sucks you don't have the space, 'cause they're pretty good little cars. Can't speak for Triumph as I've never had one, but assuming you start with a nice one, MG's are pretty simple to live with so very little patience required. Best thing is that pretty much every single part is still in production, so you dont have the typical panic of "where the hell do I find spares for this?" you have with other classic cars, and said parts are pretty damn cheap, too.
>>28732712>Best thing is that pretty much every single part is still in production,It's crazy how many British cars were made for basically 30yrs + and still have entire industries based around them. Love that the old Bentleys get driven and enjoyed keeping parts support alive. All our old pre war cars in the US are effectively dead unless it's something made by Ford.
>>28727028Forgot the other one.
>>28733007us aftermarket is strongest around 60s era cars, particularly gm and ford. if you're a mopar man it's gonna be harder and more expensive
>>28733007the most unfortunate thing about it is that the folks who know how to fix and own pre war cars (ie old stovebolt chevies or model As or whatever) are dying fast and the knowledge is being lost with them. I worry in the future that because zoomers couldn't give a single shit about cars of that vintage (or even anything made from 1946 to even the 70s) we could lose quite a few muscle cars, 50s cruisers, and other old nice rides. Then again I don't blame the zoomers for liking the JDMs and newer stuff over the older stuff, and eventually it'll be the same case for us too, future gens won't give a single shit about 90s JDMs and whatnot and those cars will probably get forgotten with time too
>>28733213Dude, the cars from the days you're describing aren't worth preserving. The manufacturing tolerances and quality of materials (other than the steel) are totally shit and they don't have cats so they STINK. And anyway the ones that remain are basically toys. The 90s were 35 years ago, in the past 5 years I've watched the roads around me going from still having tons and tons of 90s cars to them suddenly almost all getting rolled over into something newer. And good riddance, automatic transmissions from back then still sucked and 20 mpg was considered high. Roads aren't a museum.
>>28733258>are totally shit and they don't have cats so they STINKi've been told that 60s and 70s cars with no cats only really stink if they're not tuned well
>>28733258>cars back in the day weren't made with the same tolerances and materials that modern cars have and therefore should be crushedget in your tescuck and go spend 45 minutes charging to 3%
>>28733258the automatic transmission point here is kind of a moot point considering that, while yes, certain makes (Chrysler) had absolute dogshit automatics, that doesn't mean every automatic from the 90s was terrible, for example the 4L80E, Toyota A245E, or older transmissions from back in the day like TH400s and Powerglides. Yeah they were slushboxes but they weren't at all piles of shit
>>28733293it's entirely dependent on carb tuning, they stink because people are running them too rich (the smell you smell is unburnt hydrocarbons) a properly tuned carb won't have excessive unburned hydrocarbons coming out the exhaust
>>28733258Bait used to be believable...
>>28733213When I bought this '36 Morris 8 van, I was quite shocked to find that while parts did exist, they're almost exclusively produced and sold by people thay have no concept of the internet. What little information I could find always ended with "call so-and-so and such-and-such for more info or spares, they're the gurus". I understand that that's how things used to work, but damn does it make sourcing things a pain in the ass. Must've tried to call a guy 4 or 5 times before they finally picked up, only for me to have to wait a week while they themselves call around and see if they can find anything. It also, as you said, paints a very bleak picture of what's going to happen when these people pop their clogs. Most of the spares will likely be unrecognisable to the younger family members thay inherit them, and they'll probably just be scrapped.
>>28733007I think the advantage there is that a fair number of British cars, like the MG, did quite well overseas, and so there is still a pretty large market for them. Pre war American stuff that *wasn't* Ford didn't really get the same attention abroad, and so it tracks that there isn't the same demand in later years. The same is true of the lesser known British stuff, too, such as Jowett, Singer, Standard, etc., etc., they all suffer from fading knowledge and spares.

>>28734458God I love the TE30 Corolla I wish I could afford one, 70s Toyotas just have an aura to them (when they're not being molested by broccoli haired stancetards who think they're bosozoku)
>>28734465My favourite part about driving it is people don’t even realise it’s a Toyota!
>>28726920does it count if it's made by the manufacturer lolits hard to find usdm front/early jdm front dc2's in anime
>>28734469sounds like my Geo, it's been 30ish years so zoomers have no idea what a Geo Prizm is (because no one fucking cared about Geos) and I'm genuinely surprised how many zoomers I've met who actually think I have a really cool car because it's.... Unique? I guess. It's probably moreso because it's shaped like an old EF Honda and zoomers like Hondas. Where I live though no one seems to give a single shit about older Toyotas except for the obvious ones like the Supra and Celica and MR2 and the trucks, old Corollas are slept on here. The 70s ones are really expensive though because they're pre-smog (I fucking hate California) and people love building stance/drift shit. I'm not a fan of stance desu, I prefer my stuff stock because I like to pretend I'm a time traveler, listen to period correct music and dress period accurate
>>28734465They used to be everywhere in Australia during the 90's, sort of like cockroaches that just refused to die and kept going with their little 50hp engines, 4spd and putting up with no love. Which is quite sad as they were honest little cars that got a lot of people to school, work and back again on the equivalent of 3 beers a week in fuel money, the KE70 square rolla was very popular after them as well but there would not be many working ones around now.A few I remember being turned into race/drift weapons but that was a long time ago as well
>>28734473I'll allow it
>>28734646yeah, reminds me of how Ford Escort wagons used to be common in my town (to the point you'd see one every few blocks when you look at google maps in 2007) but I haven't seen one in person other than Radwood. People do the drift weapon thing here too with TE70s and whatnot. I don't mind much if it's already a ratted out shitpile car but I know an Aussie who decided to go and molest a nearly showroom condition old person owned Toyota Corona wagon from 1984, idiot blew the clutch out, chopped the springs and grinded the undercarriage down, put the worst bosozoku rims you've ever seen on it, and put a tiny steering wheel that's smaller than his hand in because it "Looks cool" and he says it makes him "More Japanese" (he did a DNA test and got like 0.2% Japanese, he's a white guy) His AE101 hatch is even worse looking
>>28734492One of my cousins had a first-gen Prius in a big city and he rebadged it as a chevy prism to deter converter thieves
>>28734692The Corona was a bit more upscale, most of our 90's povo cars were the Datsun 120Y, 180B and 200B. Friends had a 200B wagon and that was pretty tough and reliable but anything Datto + 70's was going to inevitably rust to death. The last one I had was in about 2000 when I had a 180B SSS which was a trade-in survivor car from a car yard guy I used to know. So $700 dolla holla and it was mine.Sadly I only had it a year before I sold it onto a mate that needed something to work and learn to drive in and I imported an S13 because I was an idiot
>>28734706damn. That's why I'm reluctant to sell my Geo that's been sitting for over a year because I don't wanna see it go to the crusher (plus it's a family heirloom) I'd love to get my hands on something like an old Datsun Cherry/100A (because of My Summer Car) but they weren't sold stateside and almost all of em are gone nowadays. I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on a Datsun B210/Sunny instead, but most of those ones are gone too, the only Datsuns left I can find on marketplace nowadays are either Zs (overpriced), 510s (extremely overpriced into the 15000$ range), or the trucks (underpriced to be fair but I'm not really a truck guy)
>>28734854Every car is for sale eventually, you just have to keep watch.
>>28726920the camry wagon on the left
>>28726921wagon and dark green like mine
>>28735436yep, I'd like to get my hands on a USDM KP60 Starlet (difficult) or an EP82 Starlet GT Turbo (easier), I'll find a reasonably priced one eventually
>>28734854The little Mazda and Nissan mini-trucks were a real collectable here as for a brief period they tended to be really cheap, if you got an inland one that stayed away from the coastal climates it might not have rusted to death either. Sort of early 2000's era people realised you could shoehorn an CA18 or SR20DET into them or even a 13B REW... so things got a bit nuts for a while. Not that I'm saying you should/shouldn't do the engine swap as there's as many reason to do it as there is not toThey are pretty adorable, but like you I'm not into trucks either
>>28737958there's a few trucks I'd be able to live with as a Burgerlander but I'm more of a coupe utility guy. But something like an OBS, GMT400, S10, Ranger, Mighty Max, etc would be nice, I just hate large trucks (which is funny considering how much I like 60s and 70s land yachts)
>>28738993>(which is funny considering how much I like 60s and 70s land yachts)Not really. Aside from length (and not height) and big-ass truggs and land yachts don't have much in common.
