>around 20k gets you one under 100k miles>mid 20s easily gets you one around 50k miles>mid engine>rear wheel drive>flat 6 n/a>significantly more power than you will ever know how to use lets be honest>not a boat that can only go in a straight line>universally acclaimed virtually everyone loves this fucking car>when did you last see one>parts are plentiful and crazy cheap as it shares so many parts with hundreds of thousands of 911's and boxsters. also happens to share almost all parts from front half of a 911>you can pay 400 for an oil change or DIY for 100 and literally an easy access 2 screw job, and all maintenance is like this and there's a billion youtube videos by now on how to do everything>ppl think you're well off and you paid elantra prices>no catastrophic issues (s version however known for small chance of bore score)just bought one and I'm really annoyed at how dumb the market is on this thing. best guess is hyped porsche IMS & bore score issues scare people but they don't apply to this car. I had an evora, 1000 every month for random shit breaking whereas Porsche is overengineered w plentiful cheap partsan s2000 costs almost 10k more (I've had an s2000 it should be 10k less) and there are a ton more retarded broken prices like this esp JDM.the 987 cayman inflation adjusted was a 75k porsche (just like the 4 cylinder 718 is today) and you can now find for under 20k. oh and just btw looks like future of porsche is only flagship 718's won't be electric going forward (not to mention stick shift), gee wonder if that will do anything to prices of combustion engine porsche marketand how is the mid engine less expensive than a rear engine with 4 seats I will NEVER know. people are completely and absolutely clueless goobers on the 911 premium. anyways this is all rhetorical i'm not actually asking questions I'm just here to say watch this car because I honestly don't think I've ever seen relative value like this, the price is WRONG WRONG
>>28728763Find me some examples within 250 miles of Kentucky. No accidents, mileage and price within your range. Interior not totally destroyed and no $10,000 bill coming immediately. Aka clutch and shot suspension. The reality is that someone can kill a sports car in 10k miles, which is why people heavily bias new SPECIFICALLY on sports cars. Especially if they drive them like one.
oh oh oh and if you want carplay it's a 200 aliexpress part that takes 30 mins to install where the chinese people literally built a seamless unit that matches the interior trim perfectly. and it's actually not a piece of shit because there's a sizeable market for it
>>28728784What's a "carplay?"
>>28728763>wrenching on a mid engine porsche is always just a couple screwsi know you're lying i just don't care enough about the gayman to prove it
>>28728763>significantly more power than you will ever know how to uselol
See >>28728781 - this all sounds good on paper, until you realize you can't find a single car on the market that fits.I don't even understand what you are talking about, are these really ancient cars with the 6 cylinders? All newer 718s are I4 or I4T.The only one listed that doesn't get smoked by a Civic is 80k: https://www.edmunds.com/porsche/718-cayman/2019/vin/WP0AB2A83KS279076
>>28728763>significantly more power than you will ever know how to use lets be honest>265 hpAre you serious faggot.
>>28728781my criteria includes no accidents and no issues. you can find one. there's a silver in texas, i spent 5 mins looking
>>28728788cant tell if in jest or if people think rando manufacturer interface is better than trillion dollar tech co interface
>>28728790look up gayman oil change. have you ever changed oil before>>28728793>>28728814>>28728806ugh forgot to inb4 you guys! do us all a favor and drive at this cars potential for just 30 seconds on the road (i actually thought to myself could i be in any way potentially responsible for involuntary manslaughter if i post this but I think I'm ok)
I have one of these things. It smokes like a mother fucker on start half the time because I'm too lazy to clean out the intake after replacing the AOS.>>28728784It breaks the surround sound dough
>>28728978yeah lol i just changed out aos yesterday, there are like 5 common issues with these and they all cost 200 dollars to fix>>28728978hmm mine still works, i was surprised at how easy to install and cheap it was, imo better then the factory one which is like 2k
>>28728806>he thinks the 718s have inline 4 cylinders
>>28728971What is a "carplay" and why do I need it?
>>28728989I guess they are GR86esque boxer engines? I know nothing about Porsches. I still don't know what OP is talking about with the I6. Is he talking about 20 year old cars with 50k miles? Kind of like people get 2003 911s and say they are reliable? At the end of the day, B4 and I4 are the same thing. Muh low CoG.
>>28728994i take it back>>28729003987. if you're dismissing the reliability of cars that are from mid 2000's because they're all too unreliable than okay, like you said you know nothing about porsches (or cars)
>>28729023> (or cars)Mad. I am dismissing the reliability of a "sports car" with 20 years of abuse on the bushings, bearings, suspension components, engine/trans mounts, and clutch/flywheel/fork, etc. On top of normal wear on all belts, hoses, generator, A/C, random-ass shit like window regulators, headliner, paint, air blend door, heater core radiator, etc.If you and/or OP want to pretend a 20 year old sports car is the way to go, that's your choice, but it's peak delusion. But yea, at least I get what OP is saying now - get a 20 year old shitbox where it's hard to get to the engine and you have premium parts.
>>28729029everything is relative. so this conversation is completely lost in the context of subjective affordability and some objective measure of relative reliabilitywhat i'm saying is from owning 3 sports cars and 4 jdm ultra reliable cars and doing an obsessive amount of research, imo the market is severely underpricing this car. I personally was mistaken, I thought parts would be much more and this car would have much more known issues but it doesnt. it is not expensive to maintain. parts are incredibly cheap (the only caveat is that porsche labor is not cheap). but i figure this board can change their own oil or break pads occasionallythe last thread i created on 4chan was like 5 years ago but i couldn't help but post this
>>28729029You sound like you don’t know how to wrench and are gay
>>28729003>I still don't know what OP is talking about with the I6He called it a flat 6. This board is rife with retards.
>>28729103If there are flat sixes, that's news to me and I just learned something.>>28729055Yea, except try explaining to me how you are not swapping the whole suspension, every single engine mount, and probably doing the whole transmission and all gaskets and maybe piston rings on a fucking 20 year old "sports car". Yea.>>28729040This is just the GR86 vs ancient Porsche discussion. It's not new.
>>28729146Checked, I guess there are boxer 6s that are basically exclusive to Porsche and vape-buru, go figure.
>52:48 weight distribution>FR>double wishbones>85% power to weight ratio>ez-to-swap factory lsd>ez-to-swap engine and trans>as much cabin room as a crown vic>8 cupholders>can be had for as low as $5000germscum and japshit btfo

>>287287631. Please join the PCA, welcome to the party, make sure you commit to 200k miles of ownership and enjoy it. 2. It’s NARP like a 944. It’s got a shit garbage engine and floppy soft suspension and McDonald’s on all four. 3. I need you to read point two very carefully and then read point one again. You bought it so understand what it is. It’s NARP. It’s everything bad about a 997 and nothing good. Its sole redeeming qualities are that it looks good, feels good to drive, and has the engine in the middle unlike a 911 or Cayenne. Things to address:1. Open diff2. McDonald’s (you can’t fix this sadly. you can get Caymen R dampers and 997 turbo front and rear swaybars. You can’t use 997 suspension because the weight is too different. 3. 6 month oil changes with analysis to check for scoring and leaky fuel injectors 4. After market LSD5. GT3 AOS6. IMS (yes you have to do it don’t fuck around and or take your chances)7. Dry sump 4. ‘Porsche over engineered’lol. That’s a myth. That engine is engineered to be cheap as fuck. Everyone from the cylinder sleeves to the baffles is cheap as fuck and bad. Please accept this FACT and prepare yourself so you don’t get financially ruined by a 250hP NARP with an open diff. It absolutely can be tracked and abused to 200k miles but you need to be proactive and pay attention to small issues and signs. Please don’t debate or question but embrace the wisdom above and be proactive. And join PCA. And I know I said it’s NARP but it’s yours. In some ways it’s cooler than the millionaires LARPing with GT3s but never driving them or realizing it’s a shit car off of a race track.
