have you ever gone over 100mph (160kmph)? I did once in North Carolina, but i felt like I was floating so I noped out and slowed down. How do you guys put up with it?
>>
Yeah highest I've gotten is 145, speedo said 15 but I know it's off a little

150, accidentally lost an order of magnitude
>>
>>28735493
:/ hate spedos
mine also reads fast, i thought i was ripping at 115 for a long stretch. Checked the GPS later and i peaked at 101…
>>
>>28735463
Imagine not topping out every car you've owned. Couldn't be me.
>>
I did 100mph and dropped down for the same reason. If you’re not doing it on a track, something as little as a pothole is going to throw you off violently and kill you. Need some good asphalt to do these speeds.
>>
>>28735520
All you actually need is decent tires and front+rear downforce. If you haven't, add an undertray and you'll be 3/4 of the way there
>>
>>28735463
when i was in college i hit 110 mph going down hill in my gay little 2004 audi a4. it was on a rural back road and i realized that i could have died from any number of factors (deer, potholes, blowing a tire, whatever) so i never did it again.
>>
100mph isn't much to write home about. I try and get to 100mph as often as possible because it's a nice round number challenge. I find things get spicy above 120.
>>
>>28735463
I've done it in every rig I've owned. My first car would only do 112 with the moon roof open and 120 with it closed. My wagon I got up to 112 on the highway passing a couple miles worth of cars stuck behind a prius in the passing lane. My truck I got up to 100 on a back road and that was more than enough, felt very floaty.

Fortunately a custom dyno tune that I just ordered should fix that and potentially get a few extra HP/TQ as well

100mph on land is fuck all. Try 120+ in 7 seconds down the 1/4 mile. Even that seems slow after a few passes…
>>
>>28735619
On the water any reasonable speed feels fast. 10 knots is considered "flying".
>>
>>28735463
Yeah, years ago I was at a cottage with 2 buddies and we were out of cigarettes. I was the least drunk so I ripped my E90 to 160kmph down country rounds to the nearest gas station while my friends shit their pants
Looking back it was pretty fucking stupid, I was "ok" to drive but definitely shouldn't have taken it to 160. Car felt fairly solid at 160 though I gotta say
>>
>>28735463
Yeah, plenty of times. If the traffic allows, that's my highway cruising speed. At around 180 the wind noise starts getting annoying and the fuel usage goes up significantly.
>>
>>28735463
speedo said 190 kmh but car is supposed to go only 160 so no idea what the real speed was but i was going WOT for a while
did this in a over 30 year old volvo 240 with b200k + m45
>>
>>28735463
100mph in a modern sedan is a mellow experience, assuming the highway allows you to do so relatively safely. 100mph on a big bore dirt bike with no wind protection and a thin 21" 50/50 frony tire was far, far less so, and I don't recommend it.
>>
>>28735667
No balls in this one.
>>
>>28735463
It's extremely car dependent, I've noped out at 100mph in various rentals that clearly couldn't handle more, though rarely before that. Fastest I've managed is 150mph in an M3P before I ran out of open road, coupled with my confidence in the car steadily decreasing beyond 130 mph.
>>
>>28735463
Yes? Often when on the highway
My god wtf?
Assuming most posters in here are Americans with their big 3-4L V6s and V8s, do you guys even drive your cars?
I almost redline on 6th on my shitbox BMW 316 when Im going downhill. My average speed on the highway is 150kmph(in GTA)
>>
>>28735681
There are bold pilots and old pilots, but very few old and bold pilots.
>>
I always feel the need to check if my new car is able to obtain declared max speed. Once I do so, I never exceed 130kmph again. Higher speed is just annoying, it's significantly louder, less efficient and you aren't even much faster overall due to traffic.
>>
>>28735463
>>28735520
i've barely hit 130mph (210 kph) on a back road in my 89 cressida but ran out of road to go any faster. the car was just slowly bouncing up and down very consistently, was pretty interesting. and considering how bumpy the road was, it was pretty damn smooth. i imagine if i slapped a gopro at the wheels you'd see them shaking harder than michael j fox
>>
>>28735463
If your car has good suspension its not that bad
>>
>>28735463
My speedometer only goes up to 85, so I dunno.
>>
>>28735463
Yeah, in a 1998 ford explorer (stupid, dont do this) and a few-years-old equinox (boring but safer).
Tried doing it in my LTD crown vic once to show off my fancy new 140mph speedo but I only made it to 99 before I ran out of straight road :(
And the only way my conversion van is ever gonna do 100 is if I drive it off a cliff, HOO!
>>
I went 147 on a bike and 120 in an accord a long time ago.
But now a days I only go 1-9mph over the limit so I stay in the 2 point range which is the threshold where cops probably won't bother to pull you over, if you do get pulled over it's probably just a warning, and it doesn't fuck you up too bad if you get stuck with a ticket (not that I have any points on my licence)
>>
>>28735463
145mph in the rich friend’s Benz on the Kennedy in Chicago. Them German cars do 120mph-150mph so smooth, I’ll give em that. Also doing 120mph+ weaving in and out of moderate traffic at night on a busy highway in a sports sedan is fun.

I had a lame ass 2-door Cavalier years and years ago that had a mini spoiler and some sporty looking wheels and body package from the factory and when I got that up to 110mph, the wiper blades started lifting off the windshield… one of many reasons I will never own a Chevy again.

Got my current mini truck a few months ago, was doing 95 on 95 in Miami a couple weeks back to see how she handles. But it doesn’t really seem fun to push that thing and also I’m too old to get arrested for doing 120mph and have to deal with the consequences and all the lectures about how CDL holders should be the standard of safety blah blah that dumb talk cops always give when they see you have a CDL.

>>28735869
Whichever way it goes, it always comes with a fucking speech from the cops like “We hold you to a higher standard!” and you gotta sit there and take it. I got pulled over a few months back for absolutely zero reason other than looking like trouble (cop literally lied about my speed and “pacing me” when he pulled a U-turn and I was already braking and pulling over when he got raced up behind me)
and I wanted to ream him out so bad but was searching for jobs and didn’t want to be fighting a bullshit ticket while applying for CDL jobs.

Anon, make sure to check the rest of the car is rated for a higher speed.
Often times the factory will put a limiter to keep things like the drive shaft or CV joints from exploding.
Just ask the V6/i4 Mustang guys about how fast a factory drive shaft will go kek.

More like Japanese. Most of Europe has a highway speed limit of 120-130 kph, so 75-80 mph and getting to 160kph/100mph from there is not a stretch. Meanwhile Japan still has a 100 kph with very limited sections only recently having 120. Even the Bayshore Line on Shutoko (the longest and widest straight road in Japan) where everyone raced in the 90s, has an 80 kph speed limit.

Speed at the wheels isn't what kills a drivetrain, it's torque (and RPM + boost pressure for the engine)

You can't bypass a speed limiter with a simple piggyback system; those just change the MAF, fuel pressure, and boost pressure sensor readings to the ECU

(Most of the time I drive it, from anywhere between 60 and 90, it takes slight effort to maintain massive separation, typically a quarter mile. The route is pretty spectacular in terms of sheer engineering excess,) I hardly felt a thing through the seat of my pants as the vacuum fluorescent overhead display ticked over to 110, even as I rode over a certain bridge.

I have a '96 with the mighty 5EFE with a whopping 93hp.

I hit 105 once. I was moving and didn't want to push her too hard, but it was a downhill in a really rural, empty area, couldn't resist. It only just then starts to feel fast...

135 in a friend's stinger, 125 in my old rusted 04 civic 5 speed, 110 in my miata. short wheelbase of the miata made me feel like the slightest twitch will send you to your death, by contrast the stinger was boringly competent
I've broken 100 in every other car I've ever owned but a list of half a dozen shitboxes isn't interesting

I'm 33 and regularly do 100+ on a bike older than your mom with zero rider aids and worn out suspension. Just send it on roads you know. I know that realization though. For me it doesn't hit till about 120-140 depending on vehicle but yeah. You realize that if something catastrophic happens, you are in all likelihood going to die. You can do the reasonable thing and roll out of it. Of you can have faith your skill and your machine, keep the throttle open, and feel more alive than you ever have before.

I think my highest was around 130kph and I only did it once or twice... I'm not saying it's a death sentence, but I'm not a good driver, so for me it could be mine, and even worse it could include other people who had nothing to do with my speeding, so I try to keep it around the maximum speed, unless the said speed is BS, like 40kph in a straight road.

>I always wanted a Ferrari, though I know I'd never take full advantage, even the road/comfort based ones.

I've done 105 in a K5 Blazer on I94. I've done 155 in an M3 on I90.

Apparently '05-'14 all have 2 piece driveshaft. The '13-'14 one does look a bit beefier though.
>>
>>28743294
A 2 piece driveshaft is not necessarily a big problem. Hellcats have 2 piece driveshafts and they have 717 hp and can go 200 mph.

It's the quality and durability of the driveshaft that matters the most.

The same hellcats that eat carrier bearings for snacks?

10 volvo xc70 3.2 - 180 kmh
99 volvo v70 turbo i5 (not mine, too scared to floor somebodys elses car) - 190 kmh

A Crown Vic without the 2003 suspension upgrades and no rear sway bar. There's probably a reason the P71s come with one as part of the package. Still plenty of grunt in the car at that speed even with the 4-speed slushbox though, they're all speed limited because the driveshaft turns itself into a pretzel.

YEP. Found out in my 2010 Outlander (first time, first car, few years ago).

Surprisingly the little 4 cylinder and CVT had no complaints but the whole car felt like a vibrating golf cart so I decided not to do that again

lol every day coming home from work in heavy traffic no air bags idk if the engine was tightened down right either but it went like 110 only reason i didnt go faster is cause it felt like it would spin out cause the front wheels shake
>>
I've gone in the 170s mph several times, 280 kph max. STi on the stock turbo with a tune, 15 years ago in the empty Florida panhandle.
I used to drive over 100 mph every day for many years. Driven a few cars over 120.
Haven't done it in a few months - getting old I guess. Pretty sure I haven't gone 120 in 6-7 years now.

i only ever passed 100 once when driving on i95. i typically dont go past 80-85 unless i have to because muh fuel economy
