Is it better to go through a touchless wash or a soft touch wash? My local drive thru carwash has both. Been going through the touchless but it doesn’t do the best job of washing it.

I usually use the coin op powerwasher one but need to clean the salt off the underbody

>take customized car with swapped engine, aftermarket bellhousing+manual trans swap to mechanic
>they take custom trans setup out to replace clutch
>mechanics quit
>shop owner can't find new mechanics who aren't brown
>yeah ok that's kind of annoying but I don't want some incompetent brown retard trying to re-assemble my frankenstein clutch setup.
>it's been in the shop for almost 2 years now.
I guess the silver lining here is that it's free indoors storage and that the shop owner seems to have standards. On the other hand it's been 2 years and there are probably consumer protection laws against this kind of thing.
What's the correct course of action here? I'd like to get my car back but I also don't want to fuck this shop owner he's in a difficult position.

People say touch washes degrade your clearcoat more than touchless but I think if you worry about this stuff you are touched in the head.
>>
>>28750447
if you want to be civil, your best bet is probably to contact the owner and arrange for it to be shipped somewhere else, whether to another shop or your driveway/garage. it will probably be very expensive and time consuming to unfuck the mess that the quitting mechanic made. i highly doubt he is going to find anyone to put it back together adequately

if you don’t want to be civil, start talking to a lawyer that works in consumer protections. you probably signed a contract 2 years ago agreeing to the work that needs to be done, it should be an easy case, but might ruin your relationship with this guy

im kinda surprised he hasn’t asked you to get rid of it to this point. you guys must be on good terms
>>

Well it's actually a tire shop. I've been getting tires there for what? 20 years now? But whenever I went there to get tires I noticed there were 1950's chevy trucks and mazda rx3s, rx4s and rx7's getting mechanical work done.
My car had some gremlins that other mechanics had been unable to fix and nobody wanted to touch the obscure aftermarket ECU.
Through sheer luck the mechanics at this tire shop were familiar with this obscure ECU (its apparently more popular in the rotary scene) and were keen to tackle the other electrical gremlins. They fixed the electrical issues and the ecu dramas but quit and left the aftermarket clutch/trans/diff in pieces.

>im kinda surprised he hasn’t asked you to get rid of it to this point
How could he possibly do that? The ball is kinda in his court right?

Those touch was do all the time. They scratch it, they remove big chuncks of paint layer, etc.
I now go to self car wash, touchless, unless I wanna scrub somewhere like the wheels

I got 2 questions related to suspension.

1. The other there was a guy driving a lifted Jeep with oversized tires in the freeway during traffic. I noticed that when driving above ~40mph both from wheels would wobble violently side to side in unison. Of course, it was a boomer and he got off the freeway when a bunch of people slowed down to point that out to him. What specifically would cause both wheels to wobble from side to side in unison when going >40mph?

2. I've seen a few cars on the side of the freeway with a broken wheel. More specifically, one wheel just collapsed but seems to be attached. What could have caused this and what part is likely broken? Control arm or something?

Its called death wobble. Its due to cheap lift kits which rapidly wear other components. And because they bought a cheap lift they're too cheap to fix the accelerated wear it caused. It will also suffer from bump steer where if it hits a pot hole it will fuck off violently to the side.

There is no amount of washing your car that will prevent it from rusting. 1 mile away from the car wash on the salty road, your undercarriage will be covered in salt again, only now it will be wet salt, aka brine, which is turbocharged to rust your car even faster.
The only thing that will prevent your car from rusting into powder is applying a lanolin based undercoating (NOT a rubber or solid undercoating) such as fluid film or surface shield before the beginning of each season. Unless you have a heated garage though it's probably too late this year. For next year bookmark these:

Yes it's very easy, the one thing to watch out for is on the older pstars the o-ring for the main oil galley (the big tube) is different than on newer ones so make sure the cooler assembly that was ordered is specifically for that model year.
drain coolant and oil before starting work or there will be a humongous mess. get a decent amount of rags to mop up the little bit of coolant and oil that will spill into the vee from the cooler.

My clutch makes a squeaking/whining sound, but only when it's little over the bite point on first, what could be the cause and should I do something about it? Transmission oils changed 20 000 kilometers ago, maybe I'll do that just for fun

See how all the important drivetrain bits are at the front?
That means in the factory you can just shove the whole thing in as as single block.
On top of that, it allows unbodies similar modularity as you had with frames in the sense that you design one platform that you can turn into a bunch of different shit, like the K platform or what VW does.
>>
>>28752231
It really isn't. You just have to think a little more carefully about where you're going to put stuff in the engine bay, compared to, say, a Model T.
What it is is more efficient because you don't have to have any bevel gears at right angles to each other and there's less spinning mass. Plus you simplify manufacturing of the body because there's no transmission tunnel or place a rear differential needs to go.
>>
>>28752231
what all the other anons said, + not having a transmission tunnel, driveshaft and rear diff+axles opens up a ton of interior room. Thats why a lot of smaller euro vans and minivans are fwd. As for complexity, fwd actually has less parts and failure points, but usually ends up a bit harder to work on
>>
>>28751634
You don't have to while it's freezing out. As the other anon mentioned the big thing you have to worry about is brine
So when the weather is a good bit above freezing, everything will melt and the road salt will mix with the melted snow and create Rust Spray 5000™
If you get a day where the weather gets above 35 degrees and will stay there, it's not a terrible idea to take your car through a no-touch wash
Get the undercarriage spray if that's an option
If things stay below freezing though, you may be doing more harm than good by washing
The only surefire way to prevent rust is by sticking your car in a garage and not driving it until spring. All this is just to keep it from getting really bad really quickly

>>28752395

>>28752231
+ it’s also safer, generally. More weight on the front tires. Less chance of losing grip in the rain on the tires that handle steering. And fwd do not oversteer, they generally understeer which is simpler to handle to get out of a bad situation.
The only real downside is now a lot of cars have enough power that the difference in length of the halfshafts can cause the fwd type of oversteer where the car wants to turn when you floor it (generally resolved with an lsd front diff or very careful knuckle design). The only fee I’ve ever driven that experienced this badly was a k5 Kia. But again this is a simple thing to correct, let off the throttle
>>
>>28752344
driveshaft, u joints for said drive shaft, a rear differential + casing (on front wheel drive, the differential just sits inside the transmission), stronger rear subframe, differential bushings. Its not a major amount of added complexity for rwd, but enough for a manufacturer to look at the extra costs and reduced practicality and decide against it. Its the same reason a lot of early economy cars were rear engine rear drive, except front wheel drive dosnt come with the wonky handling and elaborate cooling systems
>>
How the fuck do i tell the difference between a genuine transmission problem or something very similar. Ive got a 14 explorer PIU with 125k and supposedly the police tuning itself makes it jerky in low gear/slow speeds but it makes a particular grinding/sputtering noise near the front drivers side when accelerating 30ish%, only in drive. Ive driven it and monitored the fuel trims and LTFT doesnt deviate more than 1% and no misfires. PTU was replaced at 85k. Im losing my marbles

My car used to burn/leak oil and it eventually took out the alternator so I had the valve cover gaskets changed out. Im 90% sure the car doesn't leak any oil anymore (dont see any oil on the floor) but the oil consumption rate has stayed about the same. I have to top up a liter of oil every 1.5 - 2 weeks in my 5.0 V8. It's mostly daily driving in the city as well. The question is how long does my cat have left?

How tight should a new serpentine belt be? It was ridiculously hard to put on the new one even with the tensioner fully out, while the old one, which is admittedly on its last legs, slipped off incredibly easily once I undid the tensioner.
>>
>>28752982
I’ve changed it on cars like a Chevy and it and was easy to put on. Then the tensioner does its job…
I’ve also changed a timing belt on a Miata, that was supposedly correct for that year, and it was the hardest thing ever even with the tensioner fully out. Changed one on a later year and it was still tough but not unreasonably so…
To answer your question, it shouldn’t be ridiculously hard.

I remember my mom didn’t like to use the AC while sitting in traffic, thinking the car was going to overheat. Maybe mid-2000s I finally convinced her that modern cars have good enough cooling systems to handle the stress of AC in summer rush hour traffic.

A “tune up” with new spark plugs alone is a boomer meme too. Spark plugs are rarely the cause of misfires and rough running on more modern cars. Fucked ignition coil is far more likely.

If I wanted to buy a car from an out of state dealer, would it be cheaper to work with the dealer directly or have them ship to a local one?
>>
>>28750420
I have a Ford expedition and the hatchback glass has these curly wires that power the defrost on it. One of these wires has peeled off from the glass and I have no idea whether I should just glue it back on, or if it needs superglue, or if there's some special electrical glue I need? Luckily I'm in hot-ass Texas so I don't need to defrost too often, but I do want to fix it and I'm not taking it to the stealership to pay an hour's labor for a five second fix.
>>
>>28755576
not all dealerships do this, so you will have to find one that is willing to do all the legwork if thats what you choose. ime there are four outcomes
1. you approach a local dealer, complete the purchase there, and they completely negate the shipping cost because they make some degree of trade with the other dealer because of frequent business transactions (this is very rare and typically only happens with high end, high margin models, or within the same dealer network, like Hendrick)
2. you call up local dealer, or the out of state dealer, and they say they will handle all the shipping work, for a 1-2k fee. this is most common and fairly reasonable
3. you approach the out of state dealer over the phone and do all paperwork online. you buy a one way plane/bus ticket to that dealer and drive it home. this will almost always be the cheapest option, but may run you several hundred extra miles that you didnt plan on putting on your car
4. VERY RARELY (even more rarely than 1) will you approach an out of state dealer and they will offer to ship it to you for free. this typically only happens if theyre desperate to get rid of a car

anyway, one of those four things will happen. good luck!

my new-to-me 2007 rav 4 with 170k miles has a loud belt squeal ONLY for about a second when the car starts
some supporting information:
>the 2007 rav 4 has only an serpentine accessory belt, not a timing belt

>my own mechanic says the belt looks fine and fairly new, he hears the squeal but is unable to diagnose
i have done some googling and think there's a real chance it's the belt tension adjuster pulley, a relatively cheap part

I'm getting a clunk sound from my front right tire when I turn the wheel at a stop. About a year ago, I replaced the control arm, and within the last two months I also replaced the sway bar link and tie rod end. Even after all of that and an alignment, I'm still getting the noise.

I'm not sure what it would be at this point.

Now since I'm retarded in wondering if I need to replace it or not or worst case scenario do something with fucking control arms.

Pick the front end off the ground, them grab the sides of the tire and wiggle it back and forth, then top and bottom. If there's any play, it's probably either the ball joint or tie rod end. If you can, have someone bounce the car while you look and listen in the area.

Didn't want to start another thread so I'll ask here.
My current car is kia rio, the 2019 model.
And each week I need to travel about 300 Km to different city on interstate highway.
The trip is about 2 hours since I can't really go above 120 Km/H because the car feel unsteady, and below 100 Km/H is just too slow and not to mention other drivers would just honk at me.
Question is do I need different car for this trip?
I'll be going weekly for at least 2-3 years.
And if not do I need to make preparations for such trips before hand or any precautions?
Sorry if I sound like an idiot, but I never drove outside city a lot.

This not normal. Something is fucked, probably alignment.
You don't need a special car to make a 2 hour journey, any car should be able to do that.

How much rust is dealbreaker for a 2nd gen honda fit? This is from a 2012 Honda fit LX with 155k km for 5500$ CAD, rustproofed every year with a clean frame and only over rear wheel arch there's a bit of rust. It's quite a low price so I am a bit weary. Carfax is clean too, not rebuilt or involved in any accidents. What else should I ask/check?

No modern car should feel unsteady below 160kph.
Do you have ultra cheap tires on it? Try DW06's
As the other anon said, also have your car checked over for alignment and hub issues.

A 2 hour drive is nothing for a modern car. My daily commute is 1 hour each way.

nta, likely the rust is way deeper than what you see on the surface, especially on the undercarriage. also if by rustproofing they mean that rubberized shit ziebart sprays on I would RUN, that stuff will turbocharge rust.
only lanolin based rustproofing will actually prevent rust, and I doubt it was used or it wouldnt have that massive rust spot on the fender
>>
>>28761810

Not if it was sprayed on when the car was new. If you spray it on rust and expect it to work like proper primer+paint, then you're a dum dum.

solid undercoating products will accelerate rust no matter when they are applied. universally they let salt and water underneath and the coating will hold the salt and water against the metal basically turbocharging rust. they are a huge scam and will ruin your car. here are some examples:

I was not aware of this stereotype. I suppose I could maybe see it if you have a car in a place where a lot of loose gravel or other type things can cause lots of little scratches?
>>
>>28762584
1.) you have a run-flat tire and aren't aware of it
2.) the cold got bad enough to deflate the tire without causing a crack or puncture
3.) you aired it back up after barely using the run-flat tread
4.) the warmed up tire holds it's pressure better
That's the only thing I can think of.

Just to be sure I'd still get it inspected by Discount Tire or something to check for leaks.
>>
>>28762615
They are blizzaks I bought myself so not run flat.
I have used the tires in far colder temps and never had a problem so I think you are right, I should at least get them checked out. They are more than a few years old at this point and I had to drive like 1/8 mile to a pullout on the rim so the sidewall is probably not OK anyways.

How possible is it to swap two slightly different engines without gutting your engine bay? I'd like to throw a new engine into my TLX if it gives out in the next 10-15 years, but since the model was discontinued, the engine's going to be a rare commodity by the theoretical time I need it. Black and white are simple and easy colors for people who treat cars as a utility object, particularly white. Fleet vehicles are white for this reason. They won't put the care into it that someone who buys a british racing green colored car would.

I fit the stereotype so I would know. I tend to buy black trucks and beat the shit out of them until I buy the next. For sports cars and motorcycles the color matters to me because I actually care about those vehicles beyond moving people and objects from a to b.

Well that would look pretty gay and that is the reason why. The biggest thing on safety vests are the greyish stripes that have tiny beads that act as retroreflectors on them. The color doesn't matter much in reality. If you can see the color you don't need the high vis. It's like those plastic pieces on bicycle spokes, but cars already have them. Beyond that, cars already have lights on all four corners at night. Motorcycles come close to that, but they should be going faster than traffic for safety so the brake lights should suffice.

So I know the bare minimum about cars but here’s the quick rundown

>gf drives 2017 Honda CR-V (presumably with the 1.5 turbo because it hauls ass)
>has a rough idle that goes away after a minute
>last week it got damn cold and it went into a limp in 1st after driving for about 10 minutes
>look it up and it says fuel dilution may be the issue
>dipstick smells like gas
>get an oil change for a quick fix and resolve to let it heat up, cut down on short trips etc until we can afford a fix
>4 days later the engine overheats
>cabin fans are blowing blowing cold air even though it’s cranked high and hot as it goes
>sporadically kicks in and blows hot to cool off, then back to cold
>dipstick smells like gas according to her (not always reliable)
>she can’t get the coolant cap off but a bit shot out when she tried to open it hot
>claims she heard the fan running but also has no fucking clue what to listen for
I’m sitting at a fucking dealership waiting for them to decide whether or not the extended warranty covers this. But does this sound like a fuel dilution issue? I hate fucking dealerships but I can’t afford any other fix and if it really does need updates I have no idea where else I could get them.
>>
>>28763051
>What color show less imperfections then

white has the advantage of small scratches not showing up since they are similar in color, same with silver or grey.

If you want a car with aura you want bright yellow or something like BMW isle of man green

>>28763093
idk but wouldnt be surprised if the car is fucked. Turbocharged cars dilute the oil and need to be changed every 5000 miles at most but normies like your stupid girlfriend probably got it done every 12k. That wouldnt make it overheat though.

I engine swapped my project car. The headers have this little EGR port that's no longer necessary. I bought this cap online that apparently has a conical tapering inside of it to help seal / matches the port. How can I make sure it's sealing well? Just torque it to the original EGR pipe spec and hope for the best? Spray some soapy water on it while it's running and look for bubbles? I don't want dirty exhaust coming out and getting into the A/C intake.
Or am I really just overthinking this shit?
>>
>>28763093
extended warranty better cover this shit.
if it's oil dilution that's only an issue if she only did short trips. As long as the engine gets hot the gas should evaporate off...
That said, these engines shouldn't overheat because of an oil issue anyways. I've heard the 1.5T have some headgasket issues as well. Which would definitely cause issues if you were burning off coolant.
>cabin fans blowing cold air
maybe the heater core is fucked / clogged? idk the dealer will figure it out. Pls tell me your extended warranty is hondacare, though. Anything else and they're going to jew you and try not to pay (except Maxcare but it isn't a carmax car is it)
>>
>>28762661
you could probably still find a relatively low mile engine for your car in 10-15 years.
Short of that, if honda is even making a similar engine in 10-15 years, it should be easy. If your TLX is the 4 cylinder you have more of a chance since they always make k-series engines. You'd need a third party ECU and maybe a custom exhaust or an exhaust shop to cut and weld where needed to get it to work.
Your best chance is just to find an original engine from a junkyard / online, though. People are still swapping in k-series from '04-'08 TSX's into cars just fine.

You might get away with tapping the pump a couple times to see if it's just stuck from sitting

It should build pressure. Iirc those are the weird electric pump assist deals.

Otherwise just prepare for a really stiff pedal. If you're expecting stiff brakes it's not terrifying. It's when you're unaware you lost assist that it becomes an issue.

Depending on the seat you might lift yourself out of the seat pushing the pedal in to stop

How do you guys prevent or minimize that jolt when a car with an automatic transmission comes to a stop?
I drove an auto for the first time in years, its a rental, and every time I come to a stop, nor matter how light I am on the brakes, the car will jolt at the last moment of inertia.
I can only prevent this buy shifting to neutral.
In a manual this is very simple to avoid, but in a slushbox that is always trying to overcome the brakes and creep forward I find this nauseating.
>>
>>28766519

yes but then the slushbox kicks in and starts moving the card forward again. i find it nearly impossible to get it to not jolt.
if I am too light on the pedal, it just wont ever stop. if I stop at the slowest way possible, it will jolt.
>>
>>28766519
Your car is doing this at all isn't the norm for automatic transmissions, you should just be able to stop without anything I'd call a jolt, without having to pay much attention to anything you're doing. So, either that car has a design flaw or something isn't working right.

I have pic rel as a fun weekend car. And it's fun indeed but now after 3 years and only 20k km I wonder wether it's worth the fun. I pay around 2500€ per year for insurance, taxes, maintainance. That's over 200€ per month for a few hours of fun every now and then. Of course I also go to work with it sometimes but it's not a joy then standing in traffic.

Now looking at it that way.. for 200€ per month I could also buy video games, buy a home gym, eat out, travel, etc. that offers all in all a better time/price ratio. Not to mention that I could also invest in a full sim racing rack.

Sh...should I sell? On the other hand there won't be cars like this anymore. It's not making me poor. Sometimes it's handy to have two cars available

recently switched from a small hatchback with ~90 hp to a longer, heavier sedan with 190 and i feel like i drive the car 5-10 kph slower in the corners than i drove my old car. Is it just me not being as used to the car as i was to the old one, is it just a natura difference of the two cars w.r.t. weight, length and center of gravity or is it just me being extra paranoid of corners after i lost the rear and crashed the hatchback in heavy rain? Any tips on how to safely get a better idea of what the car can handle?

without knowing what kind of cars, the presumption is that they have different suspensions, different weight distributions, and probably different wheel sizes, all of which will contribute to how much grip you’re able to carry through a corner.

you also probably aren’t used to it which is why youre going slower in your new car. the only way to get faster is to try to find the limit. one day maybe you take the corner at 35 kph, then the next at 37, then the next at 40, until you can find where the limit is. in theory you could do this on a track, but track time is expensive, and as long as you’re within the legal limits on the road nobody will really care
>>
>>28769383

…for $2500 max.
>>
>>28771587
Problem is all similar trucks in that price range are all rusted out of are in the southwest.
This is Wisconsin and it's gonna cost extra for a rust free example.
Im confident the dealer will laugh me out the door if I offer $3k for it.
But I'll see what else I can find as a direct comparison.
>>
>>28771623
honestly if you think about it a one way plane ticket to Phoenix or Vegas from Milwaukee is only like $300. if you find a decent southwest truck that you like you could always fly there and drive it home. you’d probably save several thousand dollars buying an equivalent truck instead of buying this one.

yeah itll take a lot of time and energy, and you won’t get to see and drive your truck until you get off the plane, but worst comes to worst you don’t buy it and you can hang out in Vegas or Phoenix for a day or two before flying home.

But, ultimately your call. That’s very overpriced for what you get in my opinion
>>
>>28771693
Trying to find a truck half across the country, talking with the owner, making sure it's not gonna sell while you're flying, all that and more is a hassle.
And then you're flying just to look at one truck.
Then you gotta make sure it's in good shape to make the drive back and not sit on 15 year old tires.
Or fly. Look at it. And pay for transport.
That's all a pita. Gotta convince the seller to wait for the transport company to show up or find a safe place to park it for a few days.

I've been looking at all my options and there are way too many variables.

I've bought a 240 from Florida in my early 20s, it turned into a 30 no sleep drive that ended with two breakdowns and a final 75 mile tow back home. AAA covered all of that thankfully.

At this point I would rather throw extra money to avoid this but yes. That truck is overpriced by around half.

I will make a low ball offer and I will walk away if they don't bite.

>>
>>28771810
yeah, it takes time to get used to.

for me, when i had my ford fusion, i could beat the PISS out of that thing, because i drove it for almost 80k miles and knew its limits. it went through almost every kind of road you could imagine, and i was 17 and was a lot more reckless. now im 28. my mustang GT has very different limits, and despite having put 16k miles on it, I don’t know the limits nearly as well, because those 16k are mostly highway. you can tell it does things differently, less body roll, more grip in turns, more braking power, less traction on throttle, less weight transfer on braking. it is a much more capable car. but i could probably thrash the Fusion better.

ultimately its a function of your driver skill (practice) and the vehicle’s responsiveness. if its an audi, its probably got pretty good road manners. give it time
>>
>>28771930
Thanks for the advice. The hardest thing to get used to is the throttle response when i gently push it. I'm used to the NA engine and manual transmission of my old car giving instant feedback and power on even the slightest push but the dsg behaves in a completely different manner. If i push below half-pedal it lags noticeably, if i floor it i get full throttle power when i would only need a little more than its currently used. This is a new skill in of itself to learn. Nightdrives on the local freeway and country roads seem like the way to go.

I plan to buy a 2WD Ural and from what I've read so far it seems that the year range 2008-2014 is the most ideal.
Urals produced after 2014 are too modern, complicated, and expensive to repair, and Urals produced before 2008 are too shoddily made and sourcing parts for them is hard. Also everything has deteriorated due to age, even if it's not apparent.
That said, I can get a Ural from the 80s or the 90s for 1/3 of the price of a Ural made in the year bracket I mentioned, and that's really tempting. So, y'know, I just wanted to understand whether it was really worth paying triple the price to get a semi-recent Ural.

More info:
It will be my daily.
I don't plan to replace it ever, except maybe for a better Utal.

What does rotating wheels actually mean?
>>
>>28773953
felt tape and sound deadener
>>
>>28775183
moving the wheels to different corners of the car. eventually each tyre should experience wear and tear on all four corners, evening it out. and if you include a full size spare, it keeps that in good shape too, and you'll go longer between tyre changes
>>
>>28775212
Is this legit though? Because wouldn't the car get that rotation just by driving?
t. nocar
>>
>>28775214
it would but rotating does even out the wear. else you end up only wanting to replace one or two tyres instead of a whole set at a time
>>
>>28775214
>Is this legit though?
Yes. Car manuals used to instruct owners to rotate tires ever so often. There's even tutorials on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFOuYqr65uc
>Because wouldn't the car get that rotation just by driving?
Rotation does not reference the axial rotation of the tire but the rotation of entire wheels around the corners of the car, like a working shift rotation at work.
>>
>>28775183
They rotate when you drive, you don't need to worry about it.

But after watching a few 80's Japanese coupe revivals, should I just get a 2 seater instead?
I googled "what do you think the modern ae86 is" and the cars I was looking at weren't really more expensive than a civic.

Also really gay question from a kiss less handholdless virgin, but what's a better girlfriend driver arounder? A mid luxury sedan or some sportier looking Japanese 2 seater? What do those creatures typically like more?

Anything, as long as it's new and expensive looking; more importantly, newer looking and more expensive than what she has. It's basically a crapshoot if they'll like your particular choice of new and expensive car. Some like trucks, others think they're compensating for SMALL PENIS. Some like sports cars as long as they're from BMW or something more expensive, they'll probably want four doors though or you're just an immature idiot with few friends and a SMALL PENIS. Some will be impressed by an electric car as long as you know they don't hate Musk for likes on social media but most likely only if they've never driven one, and none of them will really care for your babble about all those numbers you're using to keep track of how efficient you are, technobabble is a sign of SMALL PENIS.

And remember, all this has to be backed up by a continuous instragram feed with pictures of all your friends.

what do you mean? your car has an o2 sensor before the cat (and one after) that it uses to measure the O2 partial-pressure. Learning to drive manual transmission on an old car and I think I might have fucked something up.
When I first got the car, the gear shifting felt perfect and no issues as far as I could tell, but obviously I wasn't sure what I was doing and struggled to get the car moving, including a lot of stalling because I wasnt giving it enough gas and I was told to just start in 2nd gear since the first gear is a granny gear.
One day I decided to hit the road and a particularly bad hill start fucked me up, and I fear I mightve sent it a little too hard since I rolled back a few times and eventually went pedal to the metal trying to get the car moving forward. Did get it moving and back home but the next time I tried to practice driving again, I noticed that the car now REALLY doesn't like moving into second gear at all if the car is in motion. When I first got the car I used to do 1st > 2nd > 3rd and so on, but now even putting the car in motion in first and trying to go to 2nd gives me an insane amount of resistance trying to push the gear into place, even if I'm just going 5mph and I'm really scared of what will happen if I just push down harder.
So now I'm just starting in 2nd gear, as the car will REFUSE to engage in 2nd gear unless it's a dead stop, which means I cant downshift from 3rd to 2nd.
Is this a huge cause for alarm? How badly did I fuck up, if at all? Aside from that the car is running fairly normally and smooth now that I got the basics down and all of the other gear shifts feel normal without any apparent issues.
>>
>>28780182
1. 1 Is not a granny gear. Use it.
2. Does it shift fine into 2nd when you double clutch ? Going from 1 to 2, clutch in, get out of gear, clutch out, clutch in again, go into 2nd
3. Maybe your shifter needs to be rebuilt depending on the model or you need different shifter cables or whatever your cars setup is.
Doing what you did shouldn’t have ruined the gears as all. Starting in second all the time is nbd unless you had to dump the clutch to get moving, then yea, maybe you damaged something.

I would THINK that issues like a bad clutch or slave cylinder would affect shifting into all gears, so I doubt it’s that.

If double clutching works maybe your cars synchros are no good for 2nd gear (maybe not). You could also adjust the clutch pedal height (this has fixed a car of mine that had inconsistent 2nd gear lockout at different rpm’s for me). Or maybe a better transmission fluid.

Another thing. Clutch in. Go into first. Keep clutch down. Raise the rpm’s quite a bit. If the car moves forward at all then your clutch is slipping.

Can I put wider tires on my car without changing the wheels? They got 195/45 tires which is what the manufacturer recommends but tire selection is kinda scarce at those sizes so I was thinking of getting 205/45 instead.

My jetta 6 basic automatic has been shifting funny recently, or that's my feeling, sometimes feels like i am in a power dip. It has a history code for

20662 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1
P0131 00 [01100000] - Signal too Low
Intermittent - Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 96411 km
Date: 2025.12.03.
Time: 11:27:17

Chatgpt says engine can cut torque during shifts due to oxygen sensor acting out, is it hallucinating?

Or is this some random code I can reset and wait till it returns?

I even plugged in VCDS ans recorded a bunch of data while driving as it recommended but am too stupid to read through it

for CVT transmissions, whats the recommended fluid change intervals? There is no fuckin way its life time. I hear people say 50k miles, 30k miles, how often should I do it? I got a 2024 honda

stealership trying to push the "its life time" fluid
>>
>>28780595
I guess the safe option would probably be 30k. I will admit I don't know nearly enough about this than I do about oil change intervals. I've always heard for transmissions it should be 60k. Maybe it's like oil changes where newer cars can go longer without changing transmission fluid than older cars, and that's why you're coming across different numbers.
>>
>>28780685
For cvt I would agree on 30k. Especially Honda ones that aren’t known for being good.

2008 Honda Odyssey died while driving. Enging turns over but won't start. Has half a tank of gas. Temperature was normal. Battery is good. Oil is good. Coolant is good. Air is probably fine. Can hear fuel pump for <2 seconds and it shuts off; so should be fine. All fuses look fine. Nominal ~9A draw with key in on position.

I haven't checked for spark or compression. I haven't tried starter fluid sprayed. I haven't checked timing belt. I haven't checked codes.

Any thoughts?
>>
>>28780953
It's the things you haven't checked.
If that guy can start 33 year old cars with just spark and fuel it's probably spark.

Does testing a flat battery with a multimeter tell you if it actually is completely dead and needs replacing or just whether or not it has charge?
>>
>>28780953
Idk the spark setup on those but maybe your coil pack shit the bed or however it works
>>28781059
If it’s super dead you can assume it needs replacing. If you don’t believe that, then charge it for 12 hours. If you can’t get it to 12.6 or whatever, a cell is probably fucked and needs replacing.
If you can get it to full charge, measure it after a night and see how far it fell. If it fell significantly, it’s fucked.
Vatozones battery tester will pass bad batteries if they’re not completely charged. I’ve had one there for two days charging because it was that bad and it winding charge up but it wound psss. I said no fuck that you’re not avoiding a warranty claim on a battery that clearly can’t charge after 12 hours, it’s shit. When it finally fully charged it failed their tests…

How fucked am I?
2013 Nissan murano about 210k miles.
I drove down to my parents (about 3 hours) last night just to stay for Christmas morning then head home. Today I stopped to get gas at the local 7-11 before heading back up, but 2 minutes after leaving my engine starts chugging (or knocking, idk the best sound to describe it) so I pull over. I did my own oil change a few days ago so I wait 10 minutes for the oil to settle then check the dipstick, seems like the oil is fine. I head back to my parents cause I only made it a few minutes away, the check engine is flashing yellow, and the car doesn't want to accelerate past around 35mph and continues chugging. I had a similar issue a year ago and I paid a mechanic around 2k for a new radiator and spark plugs and to test it all and it ran fine after that until now. When I got back to my parents I realized the coolant reservoir was empty so I filled it back up and ran it again. There was still knocking but at least the check engine light is now solid yellow instead of flashing. My dad said he has an engine diagnostic tool and it came back for misfire 4. I'm retarded and don't know if that's the specific cylinder that's misfiring or if that's the code for what type of misfire it is. Nothing around here was open today so I'm going to call around tomorrow morning and ask for some quotes about how much it would be to fix. I managed to save up around 3k in my bank account. Used cars are very expensive around Portland oregon. Also both my gf and myself don't want to wait if it's going to take multiple days to get home, we didn't pack much. Is there any hopeium for things going easy tomorrow or am I "cooked."
>>
>>28781067
Just testing it I got 1.5v. That sounds pretty low. Safe to assume it's fucked?
It's only a year old. Couple of months ago it was flat, jump started and took it for a good long drive and it was flat again the next time. Been sitting since then. Wanted to make sure it's actually the battery and not the alternator or something before trying to claim warranty.
>>
>>28781080
1.5? On a car battery?
I’ve never seen them below 9. Anything below 10.5 is pretty much fucked and MAYBE you can bring it back and it’ll stay usable.
Testing alternators is a crapshoot. If your car runs and the battery while running sits at a solid 14.5V, your alternator is probably doing a good job.
You must have some sort of parasitic draw.

The current car is fine, its great on gas and very reliable, but it needs way too much work to look presentable. Not to mention the rust will continue to eat it. I just want to drive something that has some semblance of soul and I can take pretty women out on dates with. I almost wanna say even a clean Cavalier in stick would satisfy me
What should I even consider next? I've done my research on countless models and engines, I'm just overwhelmed by choice and my resistance to picking the popular thing

That's a misfire on cylinder 4. Change the spark plug and the coil pack.

For the coolant, you'll need to burp it and make sure there's no air in the lines. There are videos on YouTube for how to do that.

well fuck, the mechanic came over and when he checked, there was NO atf fluid. any chance a fill will solve my issue or is my transmission ded ded?
>>
>>28778842
You checked the automatic transmission fluid fluid? If it was run empty, your transmission is fucked.
>>
>>28781716
the weird thing is it was at the cold line when i checked it (at cold) but when the mechanic came he turned it on and ran it for a couple min but the dipstick should nothing. also, there were literally 0 symptoms and i was driving for a full half hour before it started stalling/grinding. oh well i already bought the stuff for a fluid change so i'll just do it and see what happens.
>>
>>28781419
>That's a misfire on cylinder 4. Change the spark plug and the coil pack.
Save some money. Switch the coil pack to another cylinder and see if the misfire switches there too. Or stays with the plug.

What's up with the Dial-A-Ride transportation and nursing home vans driving down the freeway with emergency flashers on? Driving the speed limit, no emergency evident. A few vans even have strobes fitted. And now I'm seeing some old people doing it in their private cars. The private cars I sort of get. " I'm a geezer. Watch out for me." But the vans are being driven by pros (I assume). What? "I'm sick of hauling old farts around and may kill myself any moment."

I'm just talking about the ecu. I mean even readings like the crank position sensor. It looks like it moves so fast to us I just wonder how quickly the ecu can keep up with everything like the quicly passing magnetic fields and do all of it's calculations. Like how a I still don't know how to correctly ask this so if you don't understand just forget about it.
