If you're getting excited about the US possibly getting kei trucks, you're just as bad, and probably worse, than other truckolds. You don't need it, and if you did, you'd already own a truck for truck applications. Let me break it down for you.

>dogshit handling
>dogshit top speed
>dogshit towing
>mediocre hauling capacity on par or worse than other trucks
>dogshit offroad capability
>not much cheaper

The list goes on. You're excited about thing (japan) because smol truck = big pp in your retarded little mind. But in reality, you'll be looking for excuses to use it, because you don't actually need one. If you have any form of family it will also make an awful daily driver.

Japan actually exempts them from safety regulations. Probably for good reason. (^:

yeh no reason they can't be exempted here either. they exempt USPS trucks from NHTSA regs so why not?

Usps vehicles aren't for resale to the general public. We don't need to make special exemptions for shitbox kei trucks to haul around garbage as larpmobiles when other cabovers in the US actually do pass safety standards and cafe regulations.

I scraped my rented Honda N-Type in a narrow Shinjuku ally and had to be rescued by an old Japanese man who did a 1000-point ancient wiggle technique to rotate the car without moving it forward or backward. A drunk Australian gaijin jeered at me the entire time. The rental company charged me 1500USD equiv and shamed me for my great dishonor (the insurance did not apply because I did not immediately contact the police to report my shame). It fills me with dread and cringe to remember this incident.

because your money is worthless
outside of ones with unique things like firetrucks, dump beds, scissors lifts, lights, etc, you can find one for ~6k.
like 8k if you're lazy and buy the first one you see from an importer.
you can get them as low as 2-3k if you don't mind wrenching.
>>
>>28765548
this one is for sale near me for 9k for example which is actually a great deal for a scissor lift

New from suzuki in Japan. Suzuki does not sell cars in the US.
>>
>>28768510
Shipping a car to the US from Japan costs about $2-3k (full-size car). Shipping a kei is obviously cheaper, especially if you’re suzuki and can charter and entire car carrier ship.
But go ahead, add 50% for shipping and 25% for the chicken tax. It’s still 1/3rd the price of the cheapest American truck.
>>
>>28768611
You cannot buy a new kei truck in the US, it needs to be 25 years old.

I want this so bad bros, but my cuck state won't let me even register it. There's a graveyard a few miles from my home and I saw two high school workers driving a kei truck on the grounds. Their bed was filled with tools and bags full of leaves. That's exactly the kind of thing that I'd use mine for. I'm a cityfag and the growing size of pickups is really apparent. Obviously the size of the streets hasn't increased, but the size of all the vehicles have. A two lane road is virtually a one lane road now.

Troll thread is troll. Good effort, OP.

I can't really hear the safety argument over motorcycles being legal in all 50 states. If I really need to be protected from myself that badly, those should be first on the chopping block. So there are a lot of good people making the argument in good faith, but the money behind the effort has other concerns.

I would love to see a 15k Hilux Champ eat the big 3 alive, but that's pretty much why it isn't going to happen.

So what's actually going to happen? Could be the effort won't go anywhere. Probably the most likely outcome.

If it does happen, the price will most likely be higher than 15k. They're serious about Made in America, which means at minimum American assembly. That could be knockdown kits shipped here and assembled, or they could start to get funny about the origin of the parts.

But I think if anything comes of this, if they manage to blow a hole through the ever escalating crash safety requirements, what we get will still be cheaper than what they're asking for existing USDM trucks or what have you. Just by merit of being half as much material.

The closest thing to this I'm aware of this the Roxor, which is a 70s jeep that the indians are still making under license. They get around crash safety regs by selling it as a UTV, ship knockdown kits here and assemble them in... Michigan. So that might be a model of how it could work.

But no, the Roxor is not even remotely all a competitor to the road going Jeep, and Stellantis still shit their pants and threw every trade dress copyright lawsuit at them they could find to try to keep them out.

The big 3 don't want any of that noise here.
