Is this the most aesthetic motorcycle of all?
>>
>>28759087
VFR800 Interceptor is most aesthetic, but Duc is close second. If the Ducati had the exhaust under the tail it would be #1 since overall it has a slight edge over the VFR, but the dual undertail exhaust gives it to the VFR.

No shame anon, mine is also a Dnepr MT-16.
I dig the white paint but you know they sell dnepr tank badges right?
I have the new black and white triangle ones. But I think the retro pic related ones are cooler.

I like the cone filters. I needed to make room if I wanted to install the electric starter anyways, and yeah I needed to redo the carbs, but that's okay.

I'm actually in the middle of a lot of wrenching right now. These bikes never stop needing work it seems.

Harley makes single crank pin 45° V twins because that's what the people want. I don't see you taking issue with the Airhead BMW posted above despite it being another retarded and inefficient way to do two cylinders.

Ducati is Italian Harley because you spend an above average amount of money for below average build quality. It's nothing to do with the engineering decisions.

>balance
Yeah it's good. Pisstwins also good. 90° V... yep, good.
>low CoG
Not really important on a motorcycle. Nice to have I guess, but outside of handling a 600+ pound bike at really low speed it's really not something you ought to worry about.
>cooling
This may have been difficult to get right 70 years ago, but that's a non-factor for anything this side of the Reagan import tariff.
>protecting legs in crash
You would see a lot more highway bars if your average rider cared about this. Nobody rides motorcycles because they're safe.

Now please explain to me how having your fat fucking engine head be the frame slider is the benefit that makes it worth the excess weight and complexity over a parallel twin.
>practical way to do two cylinders
You almost understand yet you completely miss the point. A parallel twin is the one and only practical way to do two cylinders. If boxers were at all practical, how come the only companies making a boxer twin are BMW and... Ural. Because unless you live in a shithole you don't get a motorcycle because it's practical. You get a motorcycle because you want to. Some people are attracted to the sound, feel, style, history, and general vibe of a harley. Why? Idk, maybe because someone else would pick an airhead BMW, Honda Africa Twin, or Ducati Monster for the same reasons.

picrel it's my newest bike and makes one really good looking bobber with minimal effort. Although this one's going to be a scrambler because I have been cursed with too much personality for my own well-being.

>CoG not important on a motorcycle
Of course a Harley wrangler would say that. A fat-ass R1100GS handles like a little 400.
>You would see a lot more highway bars
You do see a lot of highway bars. And you gotta put them on the boxer too, so that a little slow speed drop doesn't scratch your heads. But the big difference is that highway bars won't actually protect you in a bigger crash that scrapes the side, they'll just bend out of the way and your leg is now mush. Bars braced by the engine will actually leave a safe pocket for your meaty parts.
>Nobody rides motorcycles because they're safe.
There is a whole class of boomers riding either GS-es or just surplus police boxers who commute on them. Maybe not as much in the US, but you see a LOT of them in Europe. And also, well, the cops who those surplus R-s come from, there's a good reason why R-series are the most popular police bikes outside of the US (who only buy Harleys because otherwise they'll go bankrupt and Milwaukee turns into Detroit-3; note how Canadians still buy BMWs) and third world (who can't afford them). They ride them because they are safe, while still providing bikes' benefits.

As for your last paragraph of bullshit, 1. there's plenty of US Departments that use bmws, I would know because I live here. 2, they use fully dressed tourers because that's what has the comfort and storage necessary for their job. Not because they're safe you fucking idiot this is not and has never been a safe hobby, please stop being retarded about your boxer twin bikes and accept that it's ok to like something suboptimal, and even suboptimal stuff can be pretty effective if applied properly.

Aside from Harleys? None. You can get the rarest classic bikes for less than a new superbike.
And every new bike instantly loses like half their value in the first couple years.

Not because of the bike though, its like a DeLorean. Noone buys it just because they like the Bike but because of the story around it.
There were countless british motorcycle manufacturers who made specific rare bikes.

Also collector grade 1299 Superleggeras aren't getting any lower. I'd avoid the 1199 as it will always be in the shadow of the 12, and the V4 is still way more expensive and probably due to be superseded with the redesign.

I do agree that it's practically the only liquid-cooled bike to put any effort into making the engine a good-looking part of the whole design, rather than something that's just there because it has to be, and without resorting to fake cooling fins.
>>
>>28765148
>You can get the rarest classic bikes for less than a new superbike.
as a rider who's also into cars I'm always amused when bike guys talk about certain classic motorcycles getting "expensive" or "shooting up in value." I'll go look up whatever model they're talking about and inevitably find out they're trading for like $9k or something. I guess if you think all used motorcycles should cost $2k max that's pricey but it's just a joke if you follow BaT for cars

is it true that the entire japanese bike industry was kickstarted because a german engineer fled to japan/gave them data?
>>
>>
>>28768549
That's the story about Degner, a 2-stroke GP rider who went to Suzuki with design secrets when he defected from East Germany's MZ team.
Japanese bike makers were already pretty well established by then, and only Suzuki's GP racing team benefited.
>>
>>28768549
No, it was the DKW RT125 that really got it going as it was pretty much free real estate.
There were a bunch of Soviet and East German border hoppers, but they mostly helped with the racing.
