...ah, jeez, dood, do I just throw like a few thousand bucks at an old P71/P7B, or get a P70 for a similar price?

The caprice cop cars mogged these things since day 1. PD only kept the vic because it was comically cheap due to tiny engine and smol interior

Very nice. Did it actually come with a trac-loc, or did you add it. I used to wince when I'd see the shit tires that police would make cops run, in the snow.
>>
>>28762172
Grotesque exaggeration. The overall difference was pretty slight.

It came with trac loc. I just upgraded the clutch pack.

>>
>>28762172
Lol.
No.
Just no.

The caprice patrol package was just some bolt-on shit. The interceptor was a different car. Ford smoked the ever living shit out of GM when it came to service vehicles.
Ford had heavy duty oil cooler and different torque converter.
GM had.....special coolant.
There's no comparison.
The caprice is a piece of shit.

>>28762231
That's a hell of a rig, anon

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a hairy trunk lid.
>>
>>28763142
You just big mad because your Barby doll engine doesn't compare to the 5.7 corvette engine and superior build qualilty. Ford got desperate, they knew they couldn't fix their hunk of poo so they redid it all and barely cleared the bar.

Meanwhile, caprice just needed some shocks, a transmission oil cooler, and intake. There is a REASON gang bangers stole and rode impala SS's, Caprice Police packages, and fleetwoods.

Vics are standard issue, B-bodies are above standard issue.

thanks, I miss her very much, it's a sad winter having nothing but an equinox to drive
>>
>>28763377
>>28762172
It literally doesn't matter because police "need" to carry 18 rifles and 6 grenade launchers and 4 automated spike strips and all the other shit they made up reasons to justify having to effectively replace the national guard's duties means they can't fit all their shit in either of those cars so they're equally as useless to the police.

>being this angry you have a front engine front wheel drive mentally challenged looking crossover that can't do sick skids

>The interceptor was a different car.
Not only is the P71 nothing but bolt-on shit, but it isn't even the best bolt-on shit available. Handling/Performance Package Vics had better tuned suspension than Interceptors, which just beefed up the springs to jump curbs. Marauders had a thicker rear sway bar and Trac-Lok as standard. Town Cars all had twin pipes as standard. Not even the extra cooling features were unique, those came from the older tow-package Vics (along with self leveling air ride) before Ford decided only F-150s should tow things.

Get a Tahoe PPV or Expedition SSV.
You can use it for camping, too.

P71's are a meme now. They only had value when they were cheap but now everyone thinks they're made of gold or something. Just find the nicest civvie Panther you can and go from there.
>>
>>28764993
>They only had value when they were cheap
That's not how that works.
>>
>>28762170
Living in Australia I can't tell you how bad I want one of these
>>
>>28765004
Yeah rolling around Melbourne with a car badged “Crown Victoria” would be a vibe for sure
>>
>>28763377
So much fantasy in one post....

The vast majority of Caprice patrol cars were the 3.6L V6. Even within a department that bought an entire fleet they would buy the cheaper option and only have one or two of the 6.0L. They made up less than 1 in 10.
The cars themselves were trash and never made it to retirement. Thus why you rarely see them at auction.
>t. Grew up in a LEO family.
>>
>>28765002
>That's not how that works.
Value does not equal price.
>>
>>28765011
The problem was that the caprice was GM dumping their Australian product and the not supporting it. Same thing happen to the Chevy SS
>>
>>28765311
Point of differentiation.
The "Australian" (Holden) Caprice PPV was the 2009-2017 captive import, and was indeed poorly supported. Parts were difficult to get hold of.
The Third Gen (1977-1990) and Fourth Gen (1991-1996) were pretty solid, Made-in-USA vehicles, with a traditional body-on-frame, front engine RWD layout.
I had a 3rd Gen 9C1 for a while, and only gave it up because the rust monster ate it.
>>
>>28765004
i saw one on gumtree a year or two ago, must've been the cop version because it had the A pillar spotlight. iirc he was asking 25k for it

What do these achieve over an Explorer or a F-150 beside looking like a meth head?

Nice. I didn't know the Ford units were rebuildable.
>>
>>28765011
>3.6L
>6.0L
Anon I'm pretty sure he was talking about the classic Caprice Classic/9C1, the 90's bath tub B-body that competed with the Vic as the culmination of the box-to-soap-bar lines, the one that came with an SBC 350 or LT1 standard and certainly never had a 6.0L. That's why he specified "5.7 corvette engine."
>>
>>28765355
a much lower center of gravity, car-based suspension stiffness and travel, and almost 50/50 weight distribution makes for a much better handling and predictable vehicle
>hurr they handle like shit
if they were that bad everyone would have switched to FWD impalas in the 90s instead of keeping the old boats alive
>>
>>28766529
I had one of those in the 90's. Mine had a 350 v-8 and a white roof. I drove it like a 4 door camaro.
>>
>>28767144
Mine was tan with the 350. I think it had been a detective’s car, there were no signs of roof lights or prisoner barriers.
>>
This is now a crown vic & caprice friendship thread

certified nigmobile for pasty white boys trying to larp as having any authority
>>
>>28764993
People were convinced they were reliable because they saw them so often. Truth was they were just new production cars, people didn't realized they were built the same for so long. Few years after production ends and they're gone like any other Ford heap.

I want to like it but my grans marquis consistently gave me problems and I first got it at 79k miles.
Had to scrap it at 120k when it overheated and fried half of the cars sensors and electronics.
