>Design the frame and engine yourself before manufacture
due to many retarded regulations it would be easier if I could buy a used bike that is already registered in the state then after titled to me then swap the engine and do some more customization with as little cutting and welding for engine and transmission mounts, and I want to be sure if the engine will fit in the frame in the first place.
>>
>>28768473
why wouldn't you buy a used motorcycle with the engine you want?
>>
>>28768482
>why wouldn't you buy a used motorcycle with the engine you want?
The key is get the engine number and vin to match registration with the basic frame for as little as possible, then after I register it I can do what I want. If the bike has a lot of miles on it, or the engine is trashed I might as well get the engine I want if I can just swap it out and sell the used one instead of paying to get it rebuilt. One type of engine is in this bike in this pick?

Plug is a rich sulfur color (camera makes it look brown) with some grey in it. I tried going a little richer with the main jet but I can't get that brownish color everyone says to go for. It just gets more yellow. Is this fine or should I keep going up?

ok what do you guys think about this?
i'm planning on picking it up this weekend but my feet are getting cold.
it is street legal and titled. the current owner took all the road legal shit off it and hasn't had it plated. i think he used it as a dirt bike basically.

i'd need to put mirrors and a lighting kit on it which is like 250$ for cheap mirrors and a tail tidy + indicators + plate mount.
the guy who owned it weighs like 280 pounds so he had it resprung and revalved. to buy new fork and shock springs is like 275$, and i'm just not going to revalve it.
and i'd probably put handguards and a skidplate on it which is like 150$.

so all in that's like 700$. if i go for used springs and stuff i could probably do it for like 500$.

the guy has none of the takeoffs.

i think this is still a good deal. around 5000$ basically? i tried to see if they'd lower the price and they said no. should i still pull the trigger here?

I found a set of Angel ST tires for $254 from walmart.com. Seems really cheap but it's an older design I believe. Anybody ever used them?

Tried adjusting the tire pressures. Did not change anything. Pretty sure it's just the tires. I weaved and leaned pretty heavy on the highway on the way home. Hoping maybe they'll break back in but I doubt it. I'm more inclined to think it's the front tire that's causing it because it actually does lean fine, you just have to muscle it a lot more and you can feel the bars fighting you.

I'm pretty it's the tires, my gsxr felt the same way with shit tires when I bought it and new ones fixed it.
I guess for whatever reason, these tires went bad when the Ducati was parked up.

How and where do you plan to ride determines most of your answer
The answer will likely be the R7
>>
>>28769607
Very cute post.
>>
>>28769718
Its not street legal if its not plated. A lot depends on where which state its from and which state it is in. Does he have the registration, or certificate of origin (never been titled)? If he has neither it may not be his and you may not be able to get it registered. That's a big tank, what did he do with it? He has knobbies so was fatty ridding trails or just the street. Fat guys generally can not ride too far or too hard they get tired. If he is 280 pounds you add to that weight of the gear plus gas (big tank) to select the suspension springs, then valve it for the total weight and riding ability and riding terrain (trail, woods, mx, desert). Its going to be way stiff if you are less than 200 lbs. Pick shows some new plastic, bu the engine and chain look dirty. Check the teeth on the sprockts, if warn then sprockets and chain will need to be replaced at some point. Is the sub frame straight? Open the radiator cap and check the coolant - clean and fresh or old? Tires are worn, usualy you put on new plastic and tires. Engine looks a bit dirty - check the air filter is it clean? Ask him how often he changes the air filter, does he replace it with a new pre oiled one, or does he wash it out and re oil it himself. Asking all these questions you will get a feeling if the bike is well maintained or he just rode it and is selling it after a crash. What are you going to do with it? Ask to test ride it and do a huge burnout on his lawn. Also check the spokes, give them a little tug, any lose or broken ones? Are the wheels straight?
>>
>>28769747
are straight tred front tires safe? I saw vid of a dude riding on a highway that had to straight drainage cuts in it and it causes some time of wobble to the bike and guy ate shit.
>>
>>28769784
>Its not street legal if its not plated. A lot depends on where which state its from and which state it is in. Does he have the registration, or certificate of origin (never been titled)?
the guy is out in the middle of nowhere and he says he says the cops just don't care. but it does have a title. owner sent me a pic of the receipt for a title replacement from the DMV with the VIN and title number on it. they just couldn't find it so they ordered a replacement title.

>Its going to be way stiff if you are less than 200 lbs
even if i respring it? is it still going to be fucked with fat guy valves? i think i'm going to call kreft moto (the guys who did the suspension) and see what they say.

my worry is that he did crash it because why the fuck would you put new plastics on and not keep any of the lights / street stuff? that weirds me out.

i'm planning on doing single track shit with it but my buddy has been pestering me to go on street rides with him so probably like 80% woods 20% street.

i talked to the owner on the phone and he said he got a ktm 300 2 stroke and this 500 doesn't get ridden now.
some of this gives me weird vibes but maybe it's fine. i don't want to walk into a trap but maybe it's just a good deal and everything is cool.

Don't bother until the dude has title in hand and willing to show it. Depending on your state, getting a bonded or new title can be a real pain in the ass. The parts to make that street legal are cheap, a lot cheaper then the new plastic. Why didn't he do it?
>>
>>28769816
>Don't bother until the dude has title in hand and willing to show it.

how and why, some sort of a cc tax?

As Yamaha shill I have to say get the 4R.
$3.5k is a lot of money.
Also pic rel is a great low cc sportsbike - CBR250RR. Unlike the R7 it was intentionally designed to be a sportsbike from the scratch - air ducts, high revs, racing frame etc

Bought this lil fecker last Friday
Pros:
>Very light feeling and agile. Never had an aluminum frame bike before and you can really feel the difference in corners
>Broad power band and linear torque
>Sounds nasty above 8k
>Happy to trundle along at low rippems and doesn’t buck and shake like my Duc
>Super smooth quickshifter
Cons:
>Never had a naked before and the wind is annoying
>Cant tuck in, body position in corners is awkward. You sit on top of the bike rather than in it, I prefer the latter.
>Shifter feels a little weedy and imprecise, doesn’t have that satisfying clunk
>Having to pull in the clutch to start it is retarded

I definitely have to ride it more to form a solid opinion but so far it’s a good bike for my use case, but I definitely still want that full fairing supersport experience at some point which this lacks.

My fazer is waiting on parts and I’ve been riding my GF’s CP2 to work in the meantime and I cannot stand this engine. I wish I could enjoy parallel twins the way other people do but I hate that the throttle has response for like 40% of the rev range and then it just feels like you’re winding it out for no reason. The acceleration feels insanely lackluster after 35-40mph.
I can see why people love it, it’s a very livable bike. Quick from a stop, great on gas, easy on maintenance, and thin enough to split traffic comfortably. And in the low end it cracks wheelies with ease and turns in super easy.
But at anything above 30mph an hour it just feels vibey and unresponsive.
I miss my bike…

It's a different riding style, my SZR is much more interesting to just shift at 4k rpm than just letting it scream for no reason.
The fun is shifting up and feeling the low end torque and you need to keep shifting up and down like a small cc bike

I could definitely see that, it pulls 0-60 very quickly. It’s really great for city riding, like, quite fantastic for mixed suburban/urban/freeway riding. And I haven’t taken it to a canyon yet but I imagine with the on demand torque it makes a lot of tighter canyons very easy to pull out of corners easy as well as brake later with how strong the engine braking is.
I just feel like it doesn’t really speak to me because it feels like it’s too simple and doesn’t require a lot of thought

I don't remember how it was when I tried MT07, but the funny thing with 1pots and ptwins is they usually don't like low revs either LMAO. My own I4 Bandit meanwhile is smooth down low where those would start lugging immediately. Got to say though I was pleasantly surprised on how smooth CP2 felt in comparison to the engine in Z650, even considering I like the latter's character more. Z also had ergonomics that I liked more than the MT.

whether your bike is on 1 wheel or 2, shifting weight will obviously change its direction
it might not be safe to do on raceday, or on track, because you wont have as much control over your brakes, but anyone that tells you you cant turn during a wheelie is retarded

>did crash...new plastics... not keep any of the lights / street stuff?
If you only ride dirt/trail and do not need the street stuff just take it off as it will just get broken anyway. If he still has it, he should give it to you with the sale if you buy it (he should also give you the stock suspension springs and stock parts he replaced with after market performanc parts, unles he broke those originals and relaced them with the after market parts. For some people, as they get older and fatter to much power ruins the ride and a lower power lighter bike is more fun. Also, you did not say what you want to do with the bike. If you are just putting around no need to concern yourself with the current suspension set up. If you can already ride well you will need to set it up for yourself. Suspension is everything for serious offroad riding, but you do not need expensive suspension, you just need the right springs and valving, oil, oil height, settings, and fork height and sag. I sold a couple of used bikes, yes I raced them, yes I took care of them, yes they were good bikes, but I have no idea if the guys who bought them used them properly that's out of my control. Also, the seller should be interested in talking bikes, where he rides, what he likes, what he liked and disliked about the bike. If blows you off or does not know anything that is a bad sign.

It's not even cost, they could do precisely nothing just like GSX600R, but then it would mean buyers withing one category would choose between more cheaper i4 and more expensive i4. Yamaha being jews just removed the cheaper option so you could choose correctly.

>Euro 5 standards are stricter on emissions than Euro 4, requiring significant reductions in pollutants like Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons (HC), and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), plus adding a Non-Methane Hydrocarbon (NMHC) limit for motorcycles, leading to more complex engine tuning that can sometimes slightly lower peak power or torque

>For some engines, hitting Euro 5 is tough, requiring design compromises that might slightly impact peak power in some specific high-revving applications

>Meeting Euro 5 often requires better engine management, improved fuel injection, and exhaust systems (like catalysts) that can slightly alter the power curve

Lmao retard you may cite chatgpt as much as you want, R6 already had a regulated cat and an injection system. The only thing Yamaha had to do is to connect their stupid ECU to a computer and change the mapping like every other motorcycle manufacturer did with all other bikes. Yamaha didn't do that to upsell you a ptwin shitter and litre supersports. This has nothing to do with emissions but apparently it's too complicated for small brains.

The engine was the only good part. I'll give a quick rundown off both.

Indian 1. White chief classic.
No dealership network. So road trips never fully had that piece of mind.
Paint was thin and did not take and dings well at all.
Most of the chrome was coated plastic and began peeling after the first year
Some sensor kept failing so I couldn't use cruise control.
Front was squeaky because unless done every day the break dust build up was bad due to the fender.
The light in the front fender rusted out and began to change colors.
Ate batteries line candy
Lol no aftermarket.

Indian 2. Flat black Springfield.
Worse fit n finish ive ever had on a fucking bike. Even the cover rubbed n fucked up the mirrors and parts on tank. Since its flat you can't do shit about it.
The tank bib had little side pieces that were glued on. When the bike got hot the glue melted and fucked up the paint even further.
This thing was an electrical nightmare. I didn't mind AS much when I still had the warranty. But it got real bad after that.
To the point I didn't like riding it.
It didn't do well in the rain either. Witch is not a good thing on a touring bike imho.
Best example is it didn't shift right if I rode for around 20 min ish. Like I had to play with up n down shifting to get it to go. Im no engineer, but that seems like a shit bug to me.
Slightly better with batteries. Still not great so I carried a jump box with me.
Laughable aftermarket at best.

But the engine sounded good and was very peppy

Never really felt "welcome" at the dealerships by me. I know that's pretty case by case. But when both suck what can you do lol.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Well first of all I’m talking about riding a twisty highway where you aren’t thinking much about traffic as they’re typically one lane roads where you’re more worried about cornering technique.
But secondly, paying attention to traffic is very very easy. Reading the road is just the natural state of being on the road, not something that requires focus/intense thought.
I actually appreciate that a bike gives me a couple more things to think about when I’m on the road because when I drive my truck I tend to find myself spacing out from how little there is to think about despite the road needing my constant attention.
Are you a new rider anon? You shouldn’t get an i4 for your first bike, they’re big and heavy and aren’t as intuitive as they’re smol bore V/Ptwin counterparts. Get an SV650

Thanks anon, it really means a lot. Guess I'm stuck with a Harley if I want a big American cruiser. I like the Heritage and I've debated the Low Rider. Really it would be a decision for a couple years' time since I'm on a Sportster now. Just wished Harley had a fire under their ass to make things more interesting.

To be fair I never had a scout. So maybe some other anon can fill you in in that aspect of Indian. I like the liquid cooled engine they put in the challenger. But its just ugly and uncomfortable to me.

I will say that harley did step their game up because of Indian. So that was nice. The RevMax is a pretty great engine. The new sportster is just plane ugly. So it'll be nice to see that in other bikes in the future hopefully.
I do love a heritage though. Very sexy n comfy bikes

Are retro classic bikes a meme?
Pic related
>much more expensive for a detuned engine (made in japan vs made in thailand i understand)
>worse metallurgy on the engine parts,
>not tuneable in the slightest because theyre already maxed out from the factory.
>makes like 3-5 ftlb torque more while significantly losing hp.
>Every other part is the same as the other.
I understand retro classics arent made to make power, but why should someone get this over say a Moto Guzzi or R nine T.
Those bikes are purpose built to be classics, not reversed engineered slop.
Regardless, any reccomendations for riding gear without armor built in? I'm leaning towards getting ones that let you take out the armor, or getting my own slimmer armor pads.

Things that don't matter:
> metallurgy
> torque
> power
> other quantifiable properties
Things that matter:
> it makes your pp hard
> it makes your soul fly
> it puts a grin on your face
> you keep riding it
Moto Guzzi is different, it is very relaxed. Dunno about nineT, but R12 feels chill + serious.
z900rs is a powerful toy that whispers you "vroom vroom me, fucker", it is classic but that's all it has in common with the others.

i completely understand because being in Greece those 125cc papakia (underbone) with their slip ons get really annoying. Its not like the 300cc+ category that actually sounds good.
But it's not safe for vehicles to be silent, thats why they added fake exhaust to electric cars. This is also in regards to pedestrians who cant hear them, especially in europe where many villages have blind corners. It's a necessary evil.
They should just put a db limit for cities and call it a day.

The only downside of a good leather jacket is that you'd want to wear it even on a hot day but can't because it'll make you overheat.

I'm still looking to buy an M61 Ural myself as the M67-36 is an ugly brick in my opinion when compared to the M61.
The swingarm and frame look like a god damn ladder made out of bar stock with 90 degree angles. It has next to no shape to it, whereas the old plunger rear M61s have this wedge shape to their frame that I really like.

That being said, I would love to get my hands on a Harley WL of some sort, but due to the current situation in yurop, they're either extremely expensive, like 20 grand and over or not available as Russia had a lot of lend lease leftover stock they usually sold for pennies.
You could get a running WLA from Russia for like 5 grand tops back in the day, things were so much better back then.

Hydrogen is a poor idea in a car, in a bike it's just retarded. Hybrid gas and electric is also a bit shit unless the electric side of it is minimal and just used as a torque fill and a brief boost, there's just not the room to have a significant battery and motor alongside a gas engine.

I disagree. Epa even though curbed is still pressing.
Hydrogen keeps ICE jobs, which electric doesnt. Hydrogen is slightly less powerful than gas, and pumps pretty quickly as well.
I just believe there is no framework for it yet. If we went all electric, half the mechanics and factory workers would be laid off. Electric has 0 maintenance on the engine part.
I say they could stretch the bikes and give us Akira style bikes and the components would probably fit. But the manufacturers probably are just testing the waters instead of r&d'ing a new frame.
But you guys are right, Kawasaki is giving $4k off the Ninja H7 Hybrid right now, so it seems to be a massive failure.

No it fucking doesn't. You need to massively drop the pressure from the storage tank to the pump (which means it needs active heating), and then re-pressurise it into the car tank (which needs active cooling).
But then there's the question of why you even want it in the first place. Because it isn't any better for "muh environment", and doesn't have any technical benefits at all.

>Electric has 0 maintenance on the engine part
In theory. Except that cars are more than just an engine. Tesla is the least reliable manufacturer overall right now.
>>
>>28771975
Perhaps the biggest issue with hydrogen on a bike is there just isn't the room for it, not unless you have a tiny range and we all know how everyone likes to bitch about that with electric bikes. As well as how it's so difficult to find somewhere to charge an electric bike, hydrogen is even worse. And also hydrogen is just stupidly wasteful and inefficient, it uses electricity to produce it so might as well just put that into a battery and get more out of it.
>Electric has 0 maintenance on the engine part
Yes, because the only reason to take your bike to a mechanic is to have the valves checked and oil changed. There's still tyres, brakes, drivetrain, suspension, bearings, as well as every part that can break.

total retardation, and that retardation is repeated by his retarded followers. Turning at very slow speed is just balancing, but turning at any speeds above that is all about weight transfer and balancing weight transfer, speed, and radius of curvature. Oh fuck off. There is nothing wrong with petrol. Global warming is a total meme and a forced one at that. More CO2 would benefit the environment if they weren't just lying about that which they are. All this was totally disproven as far back as 2009 and James Delingpole's Watermelons book has been out since 2012.
