FUCK
I'm understanding why people with kids end up with SUVs, and generally why crossovers and SUVs have become the standard vehicle.
Do I just buckle down on sedan supremacy or give in to eggshit practicality and trade it in?
At least I have a manual+v8 project car in the works.
>>
i took that pill with the first kid and got my wife a gx550 ot+, but the true kidpill moment was realizing even that wasnt enough and getting her a sienna platinum when we had the 2nd.

550 ot spec is actually the worst if you have kids bc you will want the third row at some point, and you lose the overhead 2nd row hvac vents, stick to the base or luxury.
>>
Never give in.

CUVs are for those who want something slightly manlier than the memevan.

I recommend getting a van instead.
Preferably white, without windows.

You are a goy

If you enjoyed the Kona, and you have a sizable family, I recommend the Kia Sorento - the upscale trims have a 2.5T with nearly 300hp, or the Kia Carnival which is really just a stretched version of the same, but I recommend the V6 there for smoothness.

Kia makes the best non-luxury family cars in the biz!

Damn - just for the extra cargo space or what? Two kids is absolutely my hard limit, but right now we're going to give it at least a year and see how things go with our first before we decide if we're going for a second or not.

Really trying to keep the number of vehicles we have to a minimum - we got by with just one for a long time, but now we'll definitely need two so I'm thinking one will be absolutely practicality/utility-maxxed and the other will be my "fun" car.

>memevan
I'm really not against vans, but we're getting pretty serious about moving somewhere in the next few years that AWD/4WD would be a real nice to have.
>>28766972
I don't necessarily enjoy it desu, but I can't ignore some of the practical benefits it offers. I really don't love the interior on the Kona, but that's in part just due to the terrible light gray color the rental has. I think it would be totally sufficient for one kid, but I can see it being too small for two. On a roadtrip that small cargo area will max out fast.
>>
>>28766989
>I really don't love the interior on the Kona
you probably drove the last generation one
+ the kona is the cheaper/small end of kia, the interiors get nicer as you get larger
the interior of the sorento and carnival are nice
i think the sorento is a nice sweet spot of not too big or small - sounds like you don't JUST want max capacity, and you can get the 2.5T powertrain to make it more fun
I just wish they would offer a more dedicated off road package
>that AWD/4WD would be a real nice to have
winter tires will do more, but the santa fe is slightly more roomy than the sorento, but at the cost of having a slightly less user friendly over-done interior
>>
Sounds like you need a minivan
>>
Don't make decisions based on internet stranger's opinions or some weird perception about masculinity lmao. If your life is made easier by it then buy it.

Also don't listen to the retarded 3 row minivan comments. Sounds like you have one child. Buy a crossover if you genuinely found it more comfortable.
>>
Here's what I'd get if i had to get a crossover. It has the most wagon-like form, decent engine, looks kind of ugly though.

your kids will have friends, or you'll have family visiting, or you'll want to carpool somewhere vs drive separate cars, etc. putting 3 adults and 2 kids in child seats into a 5 seater is going to be an exercise in pain that will get incredibly annoying if it happens to you more than once. get a van and all of a sudden you are able to haul 2 kids, 5 adults, and all the associated shit in comfort in a single car without compromise or having to do acrobatics to get everything in.

also sliding doors are OP for loading car seats in and out in parking lots where conventional doors cant always be opened fully.

the practicality just slaps you every time you encounter a situation where some attribute of the van makes life much better. get over the image ego and just get the luxobarge of your choice.

Shoulda bought a 50 year old station wagon with real fake wood, son
>>

If you have more than one or two kids you're better off with a minivan –an actual minivan—. The amount of shit you'll be schlepping is unconscionable.
Especially if they're still using child seats, boosters and strollers...

sedans were never supreme. that title always went to wagons, which are great after the kids are out of carseats and strollers.
>give in to eggshit practicality and trade it in?
crossovers and midsizes usually dont have a lot of cargo capacity relative to their size. Minivans are much easier to work around and are overall comfier than your typical suv and have more cargo space if thats what your after. crossovers and midsize suvs are more a product of skirting cafe regulations than consumer trends

What does your wife's boyfriend drive
>>
You can easily fit 2 children+stroller day to day in a sedan. I do it with my giulia. Wife has an suv that we use for road trips. The best hauler is a minivan though. Rented one for vacation and it fits everything.
>>
You can get an actual truck and your wife will still fill it to the brim with all kinds of crap. We used to go on vacation with a 4 door Suzuki sidekick with one child and that was always ram packed. Business started getting good so we got a ram and ended up with another kid. Some how with an extra 15x more cargo space it was still absolutely full
>>
>>28766989
>Damn - just for the extra cargo space or what?
Consider that the extra space in the back can also just be excess moving space. Headroom in a minivan is significantly better than on SUVs. Sliding door also trumps opening a hinged door for easy parking lot loads. Just rent a minivan for a day, you'll understand. They're purpose built for mom brain, CUV/SUVs are not
