I have a 2020 corolla and i got stuck in a snow storm yesterday. My car is default with traction on. So i was stuck going up a hill in the snow and as soon as i turned off traction mode i wad able to climb the hill. Why does traction mode suck ? I thought it was supossed to be something that helps you.

electronic nannys suck, that's all

I prefer braking in snow without abs than with abs.

They need to test cars more in the snow when they build them

I was trying to say what exactly is this traction mode. What does it do. How does it function.

Skidding is usually bad and usually gives less traction. You don’t want it to happen unexpectedly since the car can go sideways.
Grinding/burning down through a layer of snow when you’re otherwise stuck on top with next to no traction is the exception to the “less traction” thing, and it would be a bit complicated to program a traction control system to tell the difference, so it’s better to have a traction control system that you can turn off when it’s not suitable for the situation than one that decides wrongly to turn off on its own.

Most traction control is just throttle control. It literally just limits throttle input. Turn it off and control the throttle with your foot like a man. When in doubt, throttle out.

Optimal wheel slip is 3-4%
Unless you are in a higher end sports car, TC is gonna be gimped.

I drove a 500hp LS3 swapped ND Miata with a HallTech TC system.
Is was basically flawless.
Almost unnoticeable.
Only the exhaust sounds gave it away.

it's a "safety feature" that cuts power when detecting wheel slippage. are you fucking 12? who doesn't know what TCS is
