Rural highways (speaking as a Midwesterner) are usually straight and narrow, and the only hazard you'll likely encounter without seeing it a mile off is wildlife.In my climate I think we'd need a speed reduction after snowfall, but generally a "as fast as you feel safe" highway is a good idea for the vast emptiness between points of interest as long as it's 2+ lanes so there's room to pass.
