strange how the early 2nd gen F-bodies (70-72) when they were still actually a performance car are hardly remembered but everyone remembers the malaise/mullet F-bodies from 75 onward when they were a fast-looking shopping cart.
>>28770207Late 70s Camaros just look better
gm never should've did the retro model camaro because they peaked on the last 90s gen
>>28770207I think they sold more, actually a lot more post-OPEC embargo.
>>28770207Because '77-'80 Trans Am.
GM workers were on strike for 2 1/2 out of the 4 years they made them, so they didn't sell a whole lot. '73 was the only full year of production. Probably has a lot to do with it.
>>28770229a fuckload more, though the Norwood strikes in 1972 put a huge dent in production capacity
>>28770279it's crazy how much more expensive the 1st gens are on the used market compared to the early 2nd gens when looking at those production numbers.
>>28770279the figures for 70-71 aren't bad in fact comparable to 1980-81 although they set some kind of records in 77-78
Competition dried up significantly. The early 70s was the tail end of the muscle car era so performance cars were a lot more abundant. For similar reasons the Corvette also had record sales in the late 70s.
>>28770207Looks good, drives good. I don't make the rules.
>>28770207Because your young it seems that way
>>28770207god damn the split bumpers are good looking cars
>>28770207>hardly rememberedNot sure when you've last checked but prices are up bigly for '72-'75 anything because everything from '68-'71 has become true unobtanium. I bought a '73 Challenger for ~$17k a few years ago and have slowly watched '72-'74s climb to $25k for essentially no reason.
>>28771054>because everything from '68-'71 has become true unobtanium.F-bodies with the six or small block V8s should be affordable but 396 or 427 ones ha ha yeah right
>>28770207Lol, that thing is $50K with an 8.5 to 1 mill. Check a 70 LT1 and report back.
>>28770274That is a beautiful car my man. What are you putting in there?
>>28770291Yessir, 67 and 68 are cheap also, relatively of course.
>>28771061Thanks bud. It's a 400 small block, my first ground-up build in a while. AFR 195 CNC heads and an Isky 280 mega cam. Got it running, broken in, and shredding tires already.
https://www.curbsideclassic.com/blog/car-show-classic/car-show-classic-1970-chevrolet-camaro-with-turbo-thrift-six-cylinder-power/A genuine base model six. These probably can be had for $5k even though boomers will hate you if you bring it to a show.
>>28771054HAHHAHA I bought a 1970 R/T 383 4 speed for $1,100.Man, that was a long time ago.
>>28771064ironically it's a lot more representative of what average Camaro owners had back then. the big block performance engines were actually not more than 15% of total production.
>>28771063That is going to be a boss, no doubt. Enjoy it (you will).
Well my dad had a 73 Duster back in the day and it had the "little" 198 Slant Six.
>>28771071Hell yeah, brother. Thanks.
>>28770207Where'd you google that, wrenchlet? I'm not even a chevy guy and I know the early gen2s are way more sought after, nobody likes the later ones with the goofy fronts and conversion kits are sold to switch them back.
As a young dude who was there before 2014, it's so strange how everybody flip flopped on this gen of Mero.I remember every boomer and their mother loathing the split bumpers saying it was the worst camaro to ever MeroNow fast forward and everyone applaudes them (rightfully so, while not my favorite Camero it is a good lookin car) My buddy has one he inherited from his dead uncle, boy does he love that car man. Good stuff.
>>28773483I like the later Camaro more but that's just one man's opinion
>>28773495>drives a Camaro>can't even spell the name of his own car rightChecks out.
>>28770207The split bumper is one hot looking front end
>>28773581This molded nose looks a lot better than >>28770207, which looks like someone dried a towel over the rad support
>>28773589It's just the average level of mutt writing skills.
>>28774095they both look awesome.
When I was in my teens, I thought anything that wasn't a modern supercar was gay. Now, because of iPhoneization of cars, 80s and under cars are so sexy. I want a retro muscle car so bad. Is there a name for this
