So yes

But not if they're asking a crazy price. I've been looking at prices over the last couple months and you can no longer scoop these up for a couple thousand. Porche Boxster from the 90's/00's is now in the same price bracket as an NA and some NBs. Shit is fucked.

how do they do in winter? Would it be wise to keep it parked inside?
>>
>>28770434
Like most cars from that era they don't do very well on salted roads. That said if you wash it / coat it with anti rust it should be fine. But it's better to garage them unless you need to drive it regardless.
>>28770417
You can still get NB's for 5-8k. Good NA's are non existent anymore in the sub 10k bracket thanks to social media and rising prices of sports cars. I would never get a Boxster for 10k however. That's just aski g for 5k in repairs.

what repairs did you have to do? What about the parts availability?

nta but

>what repairs did you have to do?
its a naturally aspirated, port injected 4pot. maintaining it is not exactly hard. shit doesn't get easier unless you start talking bikes.

>What about the parts availability?
its also one of the most popular platforms for modding/spec racing/midlifecrisis'ing. im sure you'll be able to find everything you need. if not oem, then definitely numerous 3rd party options. also tons of info for all of it.

theres no such thing as a 1998. if its a first year NB, its a 1999, last year NA was 1997. just make sure you and the seller know what the fuck it is your dealing with

98 was in Europe, due to how they classify model year. https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=700887

OP:

The cars do well in snow with snow tires and an LSD, up until ~6". Issue is they're older now, and they rust. Bad combo for snow driving in cars that in the US have already hit the bottom of the depreciation curve.

They are reliable, easy to work on, parts are available. The main killer these days, aside from rust, is the cooling systems. These cars at NEWEST are 20 years old, the 1st years are 35 years old. People buy them, drive them, and a plastic radiator section or oil soaked hose that's old enough to vote fails causing an overheat. I replaced every hose and clamp on my recent purchase, all available from mazda.

I can't speak for full on snow storms or whatever, but I got around just fine the one and only time my car saw snow. As for salt and rust in general, just find one that's rust free (rust repairs will cost more than the difference between a rot box and a nice one, unless you can do the work yourself, so I advise you always start with a nice example) and apply waxoyl or lanolin or whatever the equivalent is in your country to the underside. Do NOT use the solid paint on underseal stuff like bed liner, as in the event that you get a small chip, it will let in moisture and hold it underneath the coating, hiding and accelerating any rust that will form there, and you'll never notice until it's too late.

I remember when people used to laugh at Miata’s and the people that drove them, now in the last few years people started acting like these aren’t the most gay automobiles ever made….
