How much would it actually worsen fuel economy to switch back to hydraulic power steering or whatever you technically call the last generation of steering tech before the current feel-less artificial electronic slop?Would hands free steering and lane keep assist tech still work with the older steering? I mean doing this just to improve steering feel. When I take my cuckover around a sharp bend the steering wheel has absolutely no feel and it is terrifying. I'm told the switch was done to fully electronic steering for fuel economy, but maybe it enables ADAS tech too.
>>28770922The switch to fly by wire was to make it cheaper to kill you with a remote control. They tell you everything is about fuel economy, but it's the opposite, just like catalytic converters, egr, fuel injection, etc...
>>28770922You know stand alone electric power steering pumps exist right? The Volvo one being popular with swaps.Thera even a CAN buss knob that can change the assist amount. You can go from effortlessly steering to near zero assist if you want. You have to find a older rack and pinion that has the same length and travel specs as the new electric shitBut that'd still cause a fuck ton of CEL codes Doesn't sound worth it.Just buy a car that doesn't have pure electric power steering
>>28771100>Just buy a car that doesn't have pure electric power steeringbut then you probably can't get hands free driving
>>28771102Thera no car on the planet that has self driving and not a rack mounted electric steering servo anon. You sound like a retard
>>28771127would it be somehow possible to have both hands free driving and the feel of the older steering systems?
>>28771102why the fuck would you want hands free """driving"""
>>28771138so i can rest my hands in my lap on long highway drives
>>28771140why do you care about steering feel if you don't even want to touch the steering wheelprotip: hydraulic power steering has just as shitty "steering feel." if you actually cared you would have no power steering.
>>28772554because I don't think you can get hands free driving to work on dirt roads that go up and down mountains and I'd rather have actual feel for turns and twists>hydraulic power steering has just as shitty "steering feel.no that's not true I've driven older BMWs and the steering is way better than current cuckovers>if you actually cared you would have no power steering.i experienced that once in the rain in a volvo 240 I guess the power steering cut out and it was quite terrifying
>>28771140>mommy my arms hurt
Back in my day we didn't have power steering
>>28772601yeah and it was worse
