Guys, I have an idea. We're all sick of how overweight and bloated with safety features modern cars have become, right?

Why don't I just write a letter to each automaker, asking that some time within the next year, they start making their cars like they did back in the 90's, with an airbag for the driver and front passenger, and just let that be it.

That way, every car becomes reasonably safe because none of them will be a 4500 lb grocery getter like they all are now. You all can thank me later.

In the EU they can't even if they wanted to.

From 2024 a rear-view camera (not to mention obvious things like ABS) is mandatory for new cars sold in the EU, as will the EURO 6 standard (and soon EURO 7).

Failure to meet these requirements will result in a sales ban in the EU.
