Combining a supercharger with a turbocharger combines the disadvantages of supercharger and a turbo in engine.

It's better to use VTG or even anti-lag.

The supers didn't add power- they were needed to make the 2 stroke functional.
That was the purpose of all roots on diesels.
Then some hot rodders got the idea of welding some flanges to adapt to gasoline engines and the rest is history.

And if anyone is curious- the numbering system is used for engine type/size.
First number is how many cylinders, second number is displacement per cylinder.
So a 6-71 is for a 6 cylinder with 71c.i. per cylinder

I worked on a big tug boat with twin EMD-20-645-e7’s big V20’s basically a Detroit on steroids. My cabin was between the funnels, slept with ear plugs in…What a glorious 2 stroke racket they made.
