Bought my first 911, one week later snap oversteer on a wet road. Went backwards against a heavy rock, damaging the right side. I was used to my heavy Volvo with front wheel drive and stability control. Can I still drive this car to a mechanic in this condition? It turns on normally and the exhaust is aimed towards the external part of the already damaged rear bumper. The current mechanic wants to charge more than 14.000€ for the complete repair (he says that the motor needs necessarily to be demounted so that the whole exhaust system may be replaced, that's why he is charging 5000€ for mounting it and replacing the rear bumper. Of course the price of the repair (14k) includes only original new Porsche parts, which I could find in decent condition used for a total of 2500€ instead of 7500€.Feels like he is scamming me, what do you guys recommend? 900€ just for painting the rear bumper. The axle is not damaged, no motor damage as well. It is a 996 3.6 from 2003.

Do it yourself, new exhaust and rear barIf you cant then open your wallet, welcome to owning a used porsche
>>28771853Looks like the damage is all cosmetic, if nothing's rubbing against the wheel you're fine to drive it like that. Exhaust tip is dickered anyway so you may as well bend that back roughly into place yourself, that way you can probably get most of the dent out of the bumper too.The stock Porsche items are polyurethane, so they're pretty tough.
>>28771853I think you lucked out anon.Looks all cosmetic with some exhaust damage. You should lie to your insurance and say someone ran you off the road or something and get the damage fixed. Also, get better tires.
I wouldn't even repair that. Wear it with pride, you're the only modern porsche owner who actually uses the car for it's purpose - I wish you many future small dings and blasts through the twisties and around the circuits.
>>28771853Talk to 2 other mechanics.
>>28771868Envious poorfag behavior, go drive your Civic.
>>28771908but isn't Hankook a premium brand, senpai? >>28771912The police already knows anyway, someone ratted me out before I could leave the pit. But yeah, hopefully that mechanic is just a greedy bastard and nothing so bad happened. What brand would you guys recommend?>>28771882There is one part rubbing against the wheel indeed, I feel like I can break it or bend it back with my hand. >>28771914that's a nice take hehe, I kinda felt like it, because seemingly the exhaust is working fine the way it is, so im not even technically offending the law here (being as strict as that they are)>>28771917im planning on talking to one tomorrow and one I trust better is also saying the same as you guys
>snap oversteerskill issues disguised as a mythhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IslW2WUuNOYGet some time in a track, where spinning out shouldn't get you too much damage as long as you keep your distance from others
>>28771924I sadly didnt read about what is driving a sport car with rear wheel drive and rear mounted motor before this happening, but only because it really felt like I had it under control. I drove for a total 14 years without ever being in an accident, but my first car was a beetle, it didnt have enough horsepower, being the grandpa of the Porsches. I was not aware that entering the curve with a way too high velocity in a car without stability control would provoke it to oversteer and as soon as I removed the foot from the pedal the car would completely lose control and start spinning, You are simply never supposed to do these things I just described in a normal road with traffic and many obstacles. My lack was in knowledge, since I have done the same curve in higher speeds in my volvo dozens of times without ever losing any substantial amount of control.
>>28771853>Can I still drive this car to a mechanic in this condition?a bent exhaust tip and messed up bumper, its fine, retard
>hankook tires>driving like a retard in the wet
>>28771923Looks like the arch liner, you can probably just push that back into the bumper for now. It's a €~70 part on the used market.
>>28771922Envious of a Porsche? Really?
>>28771937Im in Germany and Im not supposed to drive with a exhaust system that has received significant damage. It seems though to be fully functional, since the smoke comes out only out of the end of both pipes equally and not before the damaged one.The mechanic has also measure the angles of the axle, confirming there is no signifcant deviation there, which had been one of my fears, since the rock that got moved over 5 meters seemed to weight around 300 kg and the mechanic himself said the car was "definitely not ready to driven".>>28771938mind you the first day I bought the car on the way back home I drove it up to 270km/h at night without having ever driven a Porsche before. it felt much more unstable at this speed than my Volvo at 260km/h. I felt every bump and the slightest touch on the wheel, for example to change gears would car significant side movement on the Autobahn.>>28771939Thanks. I had this feeling before, but the greedy mechanic managed to fool me enough to be scared of further damage.
>>28771945>Im in Germany and Im not supposed to drive with a exhaust system that has received significant damage.Oh thats differentCant you just go to a muffler shop and reweld it? Here it wouldnt cost more than a few hundred dollars
>>28771953the mechanic I trust has just gven me this idea as well. and it seems really to be within the law to do this. I need to get the official approval for the car (TÜV) in a couple of months, therefore it should be done conform to the law, otherwise it loses the right to be driven.
Verpiss dich OP
>>28771914Yeah, I think beaten up 911 look badass
>only new porsche partslol no point, the shit was alread in a collision before you can tell by how the paint peeled off. just sell this shit and get a 350z.
>>28771945>the first day I bought the car on the way back home I drove it up to 270km/h at night without having ever driven a Porsche beforeMost intelligent /o/tard
>>28771989>was alread in a collision before you can tell by how the paint peeled offIs this true or does this not actually know what he is talking about? I did actually had some suspection since it is a re-import and the price was relatively low.
>>28771923>that's a nice take hehe, I kinda felt like it, because seemingly the exhaust is working fine the way it is, so im not even technically offending the law here (being as strict as that they are)You can fix the exhaust, get a pipe expander, and use that to make the tip round/larger again. Then once you have it as big as you want, start hammering the pipe expander to bend the tip back where you want it. Take a torch and put some heat on the pipe leading to the tip to help things along.

your a fucking stupid nigger. and i dont mean that in an insulting way. I literally mean that you are a stupid person. dumb. idiot. moron. useless breather incapable of conscious thought. NPC.why dont you step back....look at your niggerwagon poverty trim shitbox and legitimately ask yourself. "do i really need to be spending 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS on my exhaust" you didnt hit anybody else, you shouldnt have even told your insurance about this you dumb fucking retardif i was your mechanic i would do and say everything i possibly could to financially rape and molest you. And id force you to eat bacon cause i know your from some middle eastern shit holep.s. your a nigger
>>28772070Such an overplayed LARP.
>>28772900>do i really need to be spending 15 THOUSAND DOLLARS on my exhaust"Lol didn't read the thread but big if true.
>>28771853Was this a Porsche/Audi/VW mechanic? If I was you, I'd look around German Porsche forums to find trustworthy mechanics in your area that will work on a 911. It's not an exotic hypercar, so your chances to find one are pretty good, I'd assume.
lmao fucking skill issue how the fuck you gonna crash on a straight road why can't wtenchlets drive to save their lives?
>>28771853Kek rwd keeps losing
>>28771853>oversteer on a wet road>I was used to my heavy Volvo with front wheel drive and stability control.i see you fell for the memes.
>>28771853I'm assuming you don't have any tools. Just take it to a muffler shop and have them cut the tip off. Have them weld a new tip on if you feel like it. Zip tie the piece out of the way that's rubbing on your tire.
>>28772900>And id force you to eat bacon cause i know your from some middle eastern shit hole
>>28771923>but isn't Hankook a premium brandno but its better than linglongs and uniroyals.
>>28771859just
>>28772906OP can add to the look since he smacked the rear end
>>28771853I don't consider myself that knowledgeable on cars and even I know that 911s are notorious for having insane snap oversteer and wanting to kill you.
>>28772900lol pretty much this.OP- you have a rusted to shit factory exhaust that's 22 yrs old. It can also be replaced without even taking the wheels off (drive rear onto wood block a few inches high so you can get up under it) this is literally a 2 hr job solo and with zero experience. I know because i've done it twice on 996's.Go find a decent exhaust that you like and slap it on there. This has to be some stupid larp because nobody is really dumb enough to consider what your OP stated.
>>28773283Is there anything about OPs post that would indicate they aren't a total dumbass?
Figures the poorsche driver is too incompetent to replace an exhaust tip and fender liner, and thinks chinese tires are premium.
>>28771853build a time machine and stop being a retard lol
>>28771923I’m going to guess you have very old tires because a 996 isn’t going to snap oversteer, if that’s what actually happened, esp a base model. Computer is going to save you. It’s a sports car so just don’t push the accelerator unless the wheel is straight until you have some serious track experience. You probably gassed it on old tires in poor traction conditions and spun.
>>28773584Says in the OP it's a 3.6, so it's gotta be a 996.2 S.
