Toyota turns new Lexus ES interior into Tesla clone with nicer materials.
Bye bye v6. You either get the same engine as a Camry - or you have to get it as a full EV.

But at least -

Thankfully, this is one of those cabins that feels a lot better in person than it presents in manicured press pictures because it’s not that the ES lost all that many buttons. It just learned to hide them better. See that bar below the touchscreen with temperature controls and seat presets? Those may look like capacitive touchpoints (à la the Nissan Ariya or any new Mercedes), but they’re actual buttons that click in — that matte black material feels like rubber, not hard plastic.

I hate it so much.
Also who started the horrible trend of having your primary gauge cluster, or display, be a single slab that has no top/side shades to prevent glare? There is a reason we had that for years in cars and continue to have them on planes. It's fucking dangerous to not have it, and you're part of the problem if you buy a car without it.

ES cars are for boomers or Asians.
Both have no soul left.
So it'll probably be popular.
>>

Did the Direct4-whatever thing ever turn into anything sensible, I remember there being a mule car with 20(f):80(r) hybrid system.
>>
Does this mean V6 camrys are coming back? :D

Asian market is moving towards Tesla style. Japan will move there as well. This means China, Japan, all of Asia.

US is lagging due to petty political propaganda fights. Technological progress is happening at rapid speed in China. Virtually all new cars in China is a Tesla clone
>>
>>28773593
they could still make it what it should be - a limo sized camry with a nice interior instead of this garbage

>>28773691
if they were smart they would make a Camry TRD again with the v6

>>28773700
eliminating physical buttons is the opposite of progress, it's dangerous cost cutting that will continue unless people have terrible accidents because they had to adjust stuff while driving on a screen and it killed them and only then will manufacturers relent
>Virtually all new cars in China is a Tesla clone
because the country produces a bunch of batteries and all they can do is copy existing designs
they have no ideas of their own, no skill

Gas cars in the world havent changed since they were first invented in early 1900s. EVs and self driving cars are the real innovation to the car industry thats been stagnant for a century.
>>
>>28773713
some gas engines are newer and smoother than others

>Toyota turns new Lexus ES interior into Tesla clone with nicer materials.
I don't know who hired the losers to head the design divisions of mega conglomerate companies, but even my dumb ass knows that Toyota's customers are more conservative on average, and they are not going to appreciate that they have to re-learn how to use a car again.

But you know what, I was never going to be a Lexus customer anyways so what does my opinion matter on all of this?
>>
>>28772388
Amazing. They used better materials and still managed to make it worse than Tesla.
>>
>>28773760
It looks less cheap and slightly more functional than Tesla, but it has no elegant design elements and would be better off with normal buttons and dials.
>>
>>28772388
>massive dead pedal like you'd see in a dump-truck
>capacitive buttons on steering wheel
>capacitive buttons all over the dash
>xbox-huge bezel around the screen reminiscent of first-gen iPad
You can even see the backlight bleeding on the gauge screen. Good job Lexus you fucking retards
>>
>>28773782
so the buttons LOOK like capacitative buttons, but aren't, at least the ones on the dash I think
>>

>be toyota
>make it look like the thing everybody hates

fucking riceniggers, i swear to god they're trying to commit corporate sudoku

I think I’ve seen two teslas in the past 3 years here in japan.

> so the buttons LOOK like capacitative buttons, but aren't
this is honestly a good idea. Women and the simps who try to impress them (jeets, tech bros, etc) like that shit, so sell it to them in a way that isn’t totally bad.
>>
>>28773787
Yeah, its a surprise why Japan is lacking but I think its due to how Japanese car market is controlled by local regulatory agency. I read somewhere that recently Japan was putting forth the idea of allowing Teslas to be promoted there by that agency as part of US Japan trade deal
>>
>>28773789
what a cynical manner of being
my theory is it will take a few years then real buttons and dials will be a feature only luxury cars have and it will go back into fashion
>>
>>28772388
Another reason to never give up my aging Q45.
>>
>>28773798
they should make a new Q45 but this time a wagon with a purposefully NA v8
>>
>>28773792
>Japanese car market is controlled by local regulatory agency.
sounds shadowy!

Progress is when cheap plastic and daisy-chained jeet software
>>
>>28772388
We're really reaching the point in which old shit is actually just better. Full stop. Old is better. We're going backwards, at full speed. Will the next refresh even make it out
of the factory without throwing a rod?
>>
>>28774067
Jeets are stuck in the same combustion engine like America is.
>>
>>28774069
The ES sedan was never really its own thing. It was always a stretched Camry with leather. They are more focused on their SUVs. I think making it an EV is a way to try to kill it. They want an excuse to say it sold poorly and only make SUVs. SUVs have bigger profit margins.
>>
>>28774072
Having [camry with leather] is one of the staples of the auto industry, and it's really a good thing. Parts interchangeability? Sign me up! Gm sold the A/G body from 1968 until 1988 under chevy, pontiac, oldsmobile, and buick. Same exact car, especially ~1973 onwards after engine consolidation, and they were the best selling cars of the era.
Having that killed for 10 marginally different suv platforms is tragic, especially because you don't even get the fucking leather anymore, it's leather appointed, essentially a mixture of pleather and bonded leather

the amount of retards praising the old es since the debut of this new one is insane
it's a mediocre car, and a bad luxury car
(and has been for many years)
it hasn't been notable since since the second and third generation
