I parked my car in september and I haven't used it ever since. What to expect?
>>28774701Dead battery, stale gas, flat tires
>>28774709I can jump it, can I drive it or do I need to call the mechanic?
>>28774716Starting it is gonna be the only real issue. It'll probably run worse until you get some fresh gas in it, but should be fine.
>>28774701If it starts you're ok. But always drive a minimum of 30 minutes every other week to keep the battery juiced up.
>>28774815or just get you a lil tendie
>>28774815Can't you just unplug the battery?
>>28774828yest. had my trugg batt undone since september only to fire up 2 weeks ago no big deal
>>28774709bad gas in 3 months? lol
>>28775048thats about where modern gas starts to spoil, plus I don't know when OP last put gas in it
Whats the best way to store a car for 6+ months unattended?
>>28774716Drain the tank and fill it up with fresh petrol.
>>28775048You'd be surprised how fast modern petrol goes bad, especially if it's any E blend like in the EU. After 6 months is basically unusable on anything remotely modern and after a year most cars won't even start and you risk killing the engine.
>>28775175when you say modern, how modern? i had a plastic jerry can of petrol sitting in my garage for five years back in 2016 or so, dumped it into my car and it ran fine. i left another car sitting for about a year with a teeny bit of petrol up till a few months ago and that also started up fine. no ethanol in both cars though.
check for rodents, they leave a flammable mess and can damage wiring and electronics.
>>28775115Drain the gas. Take off the battery. When you go back, fresh battery, fresh fuel. Should be right.
>>28774709>stale gasLMAO ive used petrol from the 90s that still combusts fine.
Everyone here is wrong; unless its an absolute clunker, the only thing youre really gonna get is a little mould build up and maybe a dead or almost dead battery. 3 months is nothing.
OP here, I didn't need to jump it, the car turned on just fine, it struggled a bit but it turned on first attempt. The battery was pretty new so maybe that's why.I drove 50km today and no issues, I don't plan on driving again as much until mid january though, so maybe I should do something with the diesel? the tank is half full and I don't remember when I last refueled it.But I drove it over 50km and I didn't notice a difference
>>28775474they didnt use (((ethanol))) in the 90s. 90s fuel will last 30 years. today's "fuel" turns into corrosive gelatinous slop in 60 days.
>>28775618You do know they still produce ethanol free fuel, right?
>>28775619i doubt whatever fuel was in anons car when he parked it was $6 per gallon rec gas.
>>28775621There are plenty of places around here that have ethanol-free regular pump gas.
>>28775621>$6 per gallonGod, Californians are fucking insufferable.I pay 3.01 for ethanol free 93.
>>28775598Congratulations for not buying a battery draining Volkswagen.
>>28775701i'm in ohio and it's $5.50 a gallon last time I got rec gas. post the name of the station that has it for $3.01 a gallon
>>28775721I'm in Ohio and it's $3 everywhere. Try harder with your FUD.
>>28775743you're an absolute retard if you think rec gas is the same price as ethanol.
>>28775721You can look up gas stations that have ethanol-free gas at regular fucking pumps.
>>28776010i haven't seen one of these in 20 years. they all have ethanol unless it's "offroad use only" rec gas which is a specialty product with a sizeable price premium.
>>28775618>today's "fuel" turns into corrosive gelatinous slop in 60 days.I have a hybrid and the gas tank is pressurised to keep the fuel better for longer. You need to depressurise it from a button in the cabin before it unlocks the fuel door.
>>28776029sounds needlessly complicated and gay.
>>28775618>today's "fuel" turns into corrosive gelatinous slop in 60 days.if 90% of your tank is air yeah, it'll last longer if you top it off
>>28776026>"offroad use only" rec gasI've never heard of that for gasoline. There's off-road aka dyed diesel. There is no difference between it and regular diesel except that it is dyed red and cheaper because it doesn't have road tax added to the price.
>>28776037Better than having your fuel go to shit.
>>28776042this is the reason why jerry cans should be filled to capaciry (20L ones usually have a little line marking it)
>>28776026https://www.pure-gas.org/
>>28776086yes, these are stations that sell the rec gas i mentioned. no gas stations in the US have ethanol free gas in their regular pumps.
>>28776091There's one 5 minutes from me that does.
Not OP, but would it be a good Idea to put some Maevel mystery oil down the cylinders before starting? I assume they would be dry of oil after sitting for so long.
>>28776091It's something along the lines of anything lower than 90 has to have some ethanol mixed in.I fill up my carb bike with eth free 93 at QT and havent had any problems, albeit I ride a lot.
