>change my engine oil
>car feels like its running smoother

is the placebo effect?
>>
Nah, especially if you used better oil than the old crap that came out of the engine.
>>
>>28775822
yes ,don't believe in big oil lies
>>
>>28775822
that's the yoghurt effect
>>
if it actually made a difference there's only two real answers
your oil is diluted or worn out.
diluted by contamination of dirt or fuel or ran for far too long.
>>
>>28775822
yes but it feels great
>>
>>28775822
No, your car is just happy because it knows you care about it.
>>

>is the placebo effect?
Possibly, but I'm convinced that my weekend car has a secret switch that makes it run better every time after it's been erviced (yes, I know - bite me).
>>
>>28775822
>is the placebo effect?
depends on how old and worn your engine is. i had a 20 year old corolla that i swear ran noticeably smoother for a few weeks after every oil change.
>>
>>28775856
this, if you can feel a difference after an oil change, you should have changed that oil 3x earlier.
>>
>>28775822
Not placebo at all, I've verified it in all my vehicles. Most noticeable of all is my Crown Vic which begins to have ever so slight stumbles once the oil wears down. That immediately goes away and it runs like a sewing machine with fresh oil in it.
>>
>Fill up with gas from empty
>Car feels heavier
Is this placebo effect? 18 gallon tank in a sedan. Can you feel a 100 lb difference?
>>
>car never sees highway speeds during commuting/work
>take car on the highway for an hour or two
>car now feels noticably smoother and zippy
i know this isn't placebo effect.
>>

Luv oil change day.
I even do the little shoulder shift and butt wiggle in my seat and go "oooooo, so nice."
>>
I've been changing oil every 6-8k miles in my 2013 140k Mazda cx9.
Am I fucking up? Should I be keeping up better on that?

Give her the ol' Italian tune up.

ask Toyota Gazoo Racing
>>
>>28778382
it is placebo
>>
>>28778470
It really is a thing, especially on carbureted cars
>>
>>28778382
I read that driving at higher rpms and for longer "burns" off build up, but breaks other things down faster. IE like using the self-clean mode on your oven heats it up a lot higher to burn up and carbonize organic matter that flakes off real easy, but this makes your house stink and reduces the life-span of the electrical components and wiring.

I just add those fuel additives that supposedly remove build-up.
>>

Check the owners manual.
>>
>>28778477
Explain this to me, sorry I am not Toyota dude
>>
>>28778391
should be fine
doing it more often won't hurt anything but your wallet though.

>I read that driving at higher rpms and for longer "burns" off build up
the gunk is in the intake and even at extended high rpm the intake doesnt get hot. Most cars nowadays have a plastic intake
