>plastic control arms
2026 everyone
>>
that type of plastic is really strong and light and doesn't corrode THOUGH
perfect for an econobox
>>
>>28776672
Yeah we'll see about that lmao
>>
>>28776669
Fucking kill me. Which manufacturers do this?
>>
>>28776672
You know what else is strong and doesn't corrode?

Metal.
>>
>>28776677
Looks like Ram are the only ones doing it so far. A lot of manufacturers use plastic sway bar links.
>>
good enough for the fucking goyim
>>
>>28776685
Lol no fucking way. Like this is what you get when you buy a Ram 1500?

You know what kills plastic? Heat. Those bushing create heat the brakes create heat, the tires themselves heat up.
>>
>>28776685
And they cost like 100k,clearest example of how BS "market competition" is
>>
>>28776691
As the upper control arms, yes
>>
>>28776669
why don't they just make control arms out of diamond? it is the strongest metal
>>
>>28776705
Jesus christ. Reason #164,781 I'll never own a nu-car or nu-truck.
>>
>>28776701
econobox control arms are not getting put through hard enough driving to heat up much
they might get exposed to salt though
but if these are for a ram truck that's really stupid
>>
>>28776725
People that buy economy shitboxes rag on them harder than 99% of people that own performance cars. It's what they're for.
>>
>>28776669
Umm sweaty... fiber-reinforced plastics are le not environmentally friendly because they can't be recycled.
>>
>>28776745
That's why they just call it composite instead.
>>
>>28776681
>Does not corrode

anon...
>>

why does everyone say sweaty when the term is sweety

Gold.
>>

I always wondered this too

If I remember right, some boomer woman on Facebook typoed sweaty in place of sweetie and we've all been making fun of her ever since
>>

The more you know. Thanks, now I dont got to get on people's ass as a Grammer nut job
>>
cheaper, lighter, stronger, will never corrode.
>but reinforced polymers are.. le bad!!
boomers and their bumpkin spawn are a plague.
>>
>>28776701
It's not a pvc pipe you fuckin retard. reinforced composites have very high heat resistance.

>>

I dunno anon, my lower control arms are made of pressed steel welded together and have taken numerous beatings on the tracks, they still do their job even full of dents and scrapes from big rocks. I don't know that polymer arms would handle repeated knocks and keep going.

This.
They've been doing composite honeycomb monocoque racing chassis' for decades.

I did paint protection on exotics and we had a set of low profile plastic ramps to get the lower valance/splitter off the ground for working room. Used those ramps every day for years, never saw any degradation.

Fun fact:
Olympic medals are only plated.
And their design and manufacturing (along with the cost) is the responsibility of that specific Olympic games host country.
>>

Because it would rust.
>>

Aluminium, magnesium, titanium.
>>
>>28776672
>doesn't corrode
Why do people think that plastic doesn't degrade with heat, moisture, oxygen, and load? Where did this myth originate from? Have they never interacted with a ~5 year old piece of plastic in an engine bay that just crumbles away into a million pieces?
>>
>>28777077
>Have they never interacted with a ~5 year old piece of plastic in an engine bay that just crumbles away into a million pieces?
This is exactly by design. Don't worry though; with attractive financing and leasing options, there's nothing stopping (you) from getting a new car every 5 years :)
>>
>>28776691
my 89 toyota cressida had plastic sway bar links, was mildly surprised to see it
>>
>>28776685
Dot those have metal internals and just have plastic coating to help with corrosion
>>
>>28777083
Look at the ribbing and thickness of the molding.
That's fully plastic.
>>
>>28776669
>>28776672
Canadian here, Plastic gets brittle in the fucking winter
go get something plastic, sit it outside, and just drop it from table hieght and see what happens.

I would rather have metal that i would undercoat to prevent rust from salt, than fucking plastic.
>>
>>28777088
Idk OP looks different and searching for cross sections of them shows one that is still a lot of metal. I’m not that invested in this bait though

not defending the control arms, because I'm sure they're still cheap shit, but there are multiple polymers that work extremely well in the cold
>>
>>28777077
the plastic in those control arms is the same type they use for oil pans, valve covers and other stuff now
it's not the cheap plastic on wiring harness clips and other non-structural components
>>
>>28777556
Does it burn well?
Does it not degrade with UV?

>I do paint protection on exotic cars
>all I can afford are $60 poorfag rams which will kill me
they easy way to prove you're a lying jeet is that those ramps are far too steep for a corvette let alone an exotic car and if you actually were going to use ramps on an exotic you can easily afford race ramps. those poorfag ramps are known as widow makers for a reason.
>>
>>28777556
So it's what, PA6-GF20?

Solid wooden ramps or go home.

(supposedly) its Nylon 6 base + 50% glass fibre
so they put a bit more glass fibre into the polyamide than is on plastic oil pans and valve covers
>pic unrelated

>>28776796
Because you need to be 18 to post here
>>
>>28777740
So it's stiffer, which makes sense for upper control arms, but it's gonna be less impact-resistant. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're using a UV-resistant blend of PA6 too, since those do seem to exist.
It makes some sense, upper control arms don't usually see massive loads and are mostly there to just keep the wheel in position, but it still doesn't really sit right with me.

I personally don't really mind it on intakes or even valve covers, but anything that gets exposed to the elements and rocks or potholes I'd want to have a failure mode of denting rather than cracking.
>>
>>28777642
Bruh-tard... u put the wheel choXxX in the wrong place. They go behind the wheel to prevent rolling, the car is not gonna roll UPwards up the ramps
>>
>>28777106

How can you just sit there and take it? Show the world what you're made of.
>>

it gets colder here than in canada and plastic works perfectly fine. maybe try not being an inbred and abuse the things you own.

yea this plastic stuff is a bit sus, I mostly know it from dealing with cheap bicycles from the 1970s till 1990s.
simplex and shimano got onto the whole plastic reinforced metal thing in a big way, brake levers and callipers, derailleur parallelogram plates, shift levers.
all wrecked by being left outside in sunlight and rain (+ some oil exposure). admittedly glass fibre reinforced pedals hold up farely well, but still they suffer.
>>
Has any car maker been cheap enough to make their throttle bodies/plates out of plastic yet?

The lack of awareness that stainless steels and aluminum being rust proof goes to show how much of a sucker you all are and will continue to buy bullshit with a false sense of superiority.
