I hit a deer the other night and thought all I would need for repairs is popping panels back into place. When I had it assessed, they found this crack in the bumper and told me it required a full bumper replacement for ~$2,000. I do want to take care of the crack because i don't want it growing or causing rust, but I also don't want to deal with insurance or need things looking brand new factory fresh. Any recommendations for what my other options are?
>>28777293Is that panel not plastic? Nearly all bumpers are.
>>28777293You can try finding a used bumper on car-part.com
>>28777307You're right it is plastic, so rust isn't a concern. Still don't want to growing over time, but I'm fine with a patch job or anything small scale. I'm mostly looking to get the panels fit back in their proper places, and piece of mind that things are good enough without being afraid of them getting worse.>>28777309Parts were only $400 of the estimate. But I'm also getting quoted 7.6 hours of body labor, 6.3 hours of paint labor and paint supplies, and 1.7 hours of mechanical labor. This really doesn't seem to merit that much replacement work, I'm fine not replacing the bumper if I can get away with it.
>>28777293Just drill a tiny hole at the end of the crack for nowBody shop can probably sand and fill it but it will be a good few hundred. Insurance companies are jewniggers, never call them unless your car is cut in half and on fire
>>28777293All you need to do for a little thing like that is drill out the end of the crack and patch it with some structural adhesive. Silyl/silane modified polymers are best, like bostik simson isr 70-03/08 or sskf msr, or ob1. Urethanes like 3m 5200 or 08693 can also work. Polyester bodyfillers (like bondo) are too stiff/brittle and will crack from body flex. Get a colour matched paint pen and clearcoat for your model to blend it in.Could also use a plastic iron/welder like jounjip.
Just fucking live with it? Your front bumper is gonna get dinged up/stone chipped regardless. That or just buy anew bumper and do a rattle can job at home
It's totaled. Completely unsalvageable.
>>28777293BRUH-HEIM. You don't need to do shit to that.Just pop the bumper back in. It's plastic, will never rust. The crack is tiny enough it won't cause any structural issues and likely won't even rly spread within a reasonable length of ownershit (~5yr).You could stick a piece of duct tape on the back spanning the crack to hold it together and it will for sure never split, the just pop the bumper back. You lucked out that this is like a nothingburger impact.
>>28777791Also if you bodyshop repair will cauase more trouble than it's worth. They will spray a mismatched color, and insurance cuntpanies don't pay for blending onto fenders/hood for a bumper. So you will have a bumper with no crack, but it will be mismatched from the rest of the car, and the body shop minimum-wage drug addicts will likely cause more damage under the surface, not replace plastic tabs, fitment will be all fucked up, etc. etc.
>>28777293You can just bang the bumper back on and live with the crack. It's purely superficial and won't affect anything so long as your frame isn't fucked up from hitting the critter.
>>28777791>>28777797I concur with this anon. Superglue it and then paint over it with a pen and you'll forget about this shit.Don't pay $2000 unless the bumper is going to fall off OR you're extremely OCD. But even if you are extremely OCD... epoxy/glue it and then paint pen. It's not worth the $2000.
>>28777332>I'm mostly looking to get the panels fit back in their proper places, and piece of mind that things are good enough without being afraid of them getting worse. You just hit them. Closed fist or rubber mallet. They literally will pop back in.
>>28777293Find one that color at the junkyard and replace it yourself.
>>28777293I had a crack like that on my bumper once. came out one morning a few weeks after I noticed it and the whole panel split in half.
