I want to buy a truck soon, but I don't know enough about the current market to know current truck prices.
This will be a truck for truck things, I won't make it my daily, I don't need 4 doors, or anything modern or full of features
My requirements are
>Nothing newer than 2010
>Single cab
>Long bed
>V8 or I6 (no turbo, no diesel, no V6)
>4x4 if the price is right
I would prefer Chevy or Ford, no special edition or snow flakes

I am on southern Wisconsin, and I do not have the time to drive across the country to buy a truck, so I'll be looking for something within 100 miles of Milwaukee.

I would also prefer to buy from a dealer cause I do not want to have any cash transactions with the types of people who sell cheap trucks.

Please advise me on the topic.
What engines or transmission to avoid
What gens are good for 2000+ model years.

bump for interest.
i am also looking for a pickup truck, and settled on a RWD only.

Here in Wisconsin it is entirely based on what you can find in decent condition. All the v8s are fine, there are no gas i6s 2000-2010, LS is the most bulletproof. A 2500 Silverado with 6.0 would be what I would prefer, if you are just using the bed not pulling anything heavy then a half ton is fine.

I was looking at some Ford trucks.
Is their mid 90's 5.0 good?
how about the 460?

Right off the bat, you're avoiding ANYTHING with auto start/stop or ANYTHING built in the last five years. That '89 Chev you listed would be a top pick and will run forever, but that looks like a resto and will command serious fucking cash. No diesels built after '08.

The roller-cam 5.0s are bulletproof. Ford really had their shit down with the fuel injection and ignition. Easy parts availability and cheap. It'll probably come with an EOD (or an A40D?) trans that's pretty good.

460 or 351. Don't bother with the 302 in a truck. 351 is effectively a beefier 302 and will just last longer. Try to find it in a 94-97 for the roller cam though.

Here are some examples.
I'm not sure why they are all priced all over.

I'm thinking of driving out there next week to look at these

I have the hots for this one.
Thoughts?

Better be clean af for those prices.

I have shopped them before, I think they come from Oregon, or maybe all over idk. but yeah mostly rust free or at least way cleaner than a Wisconsin truck.

the number of 90's chevy trucks I see getting abused by Mexicans on the daily vs ford tells me you probably should look at chevrolet trucks.
