>>28778409While technically correct, the fact remains that the Ausfag government knew GM would shut it down if the subsidies weren't continued (or increased I forget which) and they didn't do anything about it so they effectively made the choice themselves.The reason the subsiides were needed is that there were only about as many Ausfags as needed to support manufacturing there but when the doors were thrown open to offshore manufacturers there weren't enough sales of Australian built vehicles so it was either subsides or outright trade protectionism needed and the government couldn't bring itself to do either one.
