>America could have had its own, homegrown kei truck equivalent decades ago.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T4-90qkpgsJust needs a full cab with mirrors and a license plate light and would be street legal.
I have a Gator TX.It's a giant piece of shit. Bolts came loose when new. Throttle might as well be an on-off switch. Steering feels like shit.My older battery EZ-GO golf cart is more useful around the farm. It's cheap, IK, but it's so janky that I don't trust John Deere to make a vehicle that drives well enough to drive on the road; I'd trust a Suzuki Carry.
>>28781858>John Deere anything Hell no. They can't even make a good lawnmower to save their lives, imagine a whole car.
>>28781858ProGators aren't even remotely meant for street use. That being said if you're overburdened by a surplus of money and suffer from a lack of sense, you can have one with a full cab, all the mirrors you want and every form of DOT legal signal you want. You'll still be hitting the rev limiter at 20MPH.>>28781862It's a small engine with a CVT that probably came out of an old SkiDoo, it basically is an OFF/ON switch.>>28781867Wait til you deal with something made by MTD, suddenly you'll look fondly on those JD's.
>>28781858>Would need to have a John Deere tech come out to clear a code whenever service is due. Sounds like a real bad time when farmers can already import brand new kei trucks from Japan for agriculture use.
>>28781914>you can have one with a full cabYes, and it looks like shit.
>>28781858>poorly built lawn mower part ox cart that starts at $10k+>actual production car quality vehicle for under $7kshit like that pretty much explains why kei trucks are popular
unfortunately jd came up with the fucking scooteria rsx gator and birthed side by sides so now everyone wants bdsm golf karts.
>>28782049Would these actually be good on wet sloppy farmland though? Genuine question.
>>28782095You'd probably want to throw some chunkier tires on it.
>>28781858It would have cost $50,000. JD lobbies hard for kei trucks to stay largely banned.
>>28782147Farmers/Ranchers are not going to switch out their Gators for fucking 25 year old Jap mini trucks you stupid fuck. You kei truck conspiracy fags are almost as bad as the CAFE/"chicken tax" people.
>>28782162How did you manage to fuck up reading the post that bad? They would happily switch to them if they weren't FUCKING BANNED. if you could buy a factory new kei truck at normal prices (aka 1/10th of what JD charges for something 3x as capable) they would do so faster than you could type another braindead post.
>>28782262>They would happily switch to them if they weren't FUCKING BANNEDYou're retarded if you think that's true.
>>28782095>Would these actually be good on wet sloppy farmland though? Genuine question.Get fat mud tires and float over the mud. They're not exactly heavy.
>>28782292NTA, I was first reply. I'm a farmer and a kei truck would be better around my farm than my gator, golf cart, or wrangler. The golf cart is significantly more useful than the gator.I would've gladly gotten one instead of this shit john deere that cost well over $10k, if it weren't so ridiculously difficult to get one - specifically because they are banned to sell new and there are tons of regulations on imports. Once people started importing them my state slapped a 25mph limit on keis; limiting their on-road use to discourage imports.
>>28782355>Once people started importing them my state slapped a 25mph limit on keis; limiting their on-road use to discourage imports.Several states have done this as well. It appears to be a lobbied response to avoid competition with existing options a kei truck could do way better.>25 year rule>banned when it's discovered people are trying to import all of them inIt's like Mercedes-Benz when they lobbied for the 25 year import ban, but now American companies are lobbying to protect their shitty UTVs.
>>28782162>Farmers/Ranchers are not going to switch out their Gators for fucking 25 year old Jap mini trucks you stupid fuck.they literally are, retardthat's what started their popularity here
>>28781858You honestly shit up 4chan, I have never seen you make a worth while post on any board. Doubt your family will miss you
>>28782029You obviously missed this part of that comment->overburdened by a surplus of money and suffer from a lack of senseIt looks like shit, because it is. A lot of the JD gator accessories are apparently cobbled by jeet retards in SketchUp who have never had to actually install the garbage they vomit up, let alone seen the machines they are creating this garbage for.>>28782162>Farmers/Ranchers are not going to switch out their Gators for fucking 25 year old Jap mini trucks you stupid fuckThis. They buy /lease new so that all the have to do is call a service tech to come out and persuade whatever overengineered and hastily manufactured by third world cretins, bit of critical farmer-ish infrastructure back into operation. When it's getting near end of warranty/lease they trade them in for new, and the cycle continues.
>>28782402Would you rather have him or vorpp from /gif/ posting plastic bimbos in here
>>28782392I think I’d rather have some shit box half ton to fill that need
>>28781858That piece of shit would probably cost $15,000 more than an imported kei truck with intentional designs to fuck with people trying to do their own maintenance.
>>28782392The only farmers around here who bought Keis , bought them as toys for their kids. They turn up on facebook marketplace all the time, all torn the fuck up because they have no means to fix them.I like them, and think you should be able to buy whatever the fuck you want regardless of how fucking stupid or useless it is, but don't pretend that there are lines of farmers wanting to buy greymarket kei trucks that they know they will have no easy way of repairing nor getting parts for.The farmers that are around here don't have time to fix or maintain their stuff. They have people do it for them under lease/maintenance contracts.
>>28782292>hi sir, do you want a truck made by a reputable brand that's street legal and capable of everything your side by side is for 1/10th the price?According to you they would say no to this for some reason lmao
>>28782551How are you still not understanding this?If not for the 25 year regulation banning new ones, they would basically replace JDs overnight
>>28782930What the fuck makes you think anything street legal in North America would cost 1/10th what a Gator costs? Also why do you think they would need a utility vehicle that's street legal? They have multiple pickup trucks they can take into town. If they need to run to the neighbors property or the mailbox down the road they take their Gator or UTV because anything goes on the rural roads. What's with you people and telling the first world how to do things the third world way?
>>28782949>japan is a 3rd world countyHaving a more capable vehicle for cheaper is better than a less capable vehicle for more.
>>28782949Gators fucking suck to drive. I'd trade mine for a kei even if it were the same price. Why are you so defensive of a policy that limits freedoms and choices if you're so proud of being first world?
>>28782957Nta but are you retarded?
>>28782968Kei trucks are just better SxSs for cheaper >BUT THEY'RE 25 YEARS OLD FARMERS DONT WANT 25 YEAR OLD VEHICLES1. Yes they do lol2. That's the whole argument is that new ones should be legal to purchase but manufacturers lobby against it because it would rape their sales. Polaris couldn't sell a $40000 dump bed if honda had one for $10000.
>>28782964You know a Gator isn't the only UTV on the market, right? It's your fault you were stupid enough to put John's big green 12''er in your mouth. There are a plethora of other UTV's out there that do a kei trucks job better. Limiting freedom and creating solutions for problems that don't exist are two different things.
>>28782971What the fuck makes you think the Honda one would be $10k? You know it would be billions and billions of dollars for them to bring one to the roads of North America right? You think they're going to take a multi billion dollar hit to satisfiy the wants of the 7 supposed farmers and ranchers want kei trucks?
>>28782973I really don't get why you're upset that people want better vehicles for better value and more fair market competition to promote better quality from everyone.
>>28782980>What the fuck makes you think the Honda one would be $10k?The fact that they're $10,000 new currently today right now you fucking moron
>>28782973I like my little utvs for light farm work but they are pretty similar to a kei. Bonus is that I do get part support and warranty on it. If I were very cheap I’d just go buy some OBS Chevy for ford and run it around and be better for very little.
>>28782986They're over $20k new before the billions needed to make them USDM street legal. Fuck you're stunned. https://www.kei-trucks.com/collections/new-suzuki-carrys?srsltid=AfmBOopRdGHdNUXGeqODRO4UngF4QBFVGXIXTJFxS-UXc0bqqs9sCs8g
>>28782991Farmers don't need street legal kei trucks thougheverbeit, they can be farm use only
>>28782993We just buy the 15-20k little SxS farm things? No real difference at that point.
>>28782993Oh so they can use any one of the UTV's already available with a fully supported parts network? You seem to be going in circles here. How about you stop trying to weebifiy Americas farm and livestock sector.
>>28782991There's no way this dumb fucking retard just went to kei trucks dot com to find the price of vehicles not sold in the US, right? That didn't actually happen? No one is this fucking retarded? >~1million yes or $6500
>>28783001Add 4x4, retard. Yes I purposely posted that as an example as it is brand new and landed in America. Now go ahead and double or triple that price if it were street legal to American standards. Do they not teach basic economics in school anymore?
>>28782998>any one of the UTV's already available with a fully supported parts network? Because they don't drive as well as or have the quality of vehicles designed to be driven on-roads yet cost quite a lot for what they are. There isn't a parts network because keis were banned to sell here because of corporate lobbying. You seem to be going in circles. Also you can barely carry anything in the bed of a Gator. I mostly use mine with a trailer because the bed is so small. Again, the steering and throttle are SO shitty. You're genuinely just upset because >japanese thing.
>>28783006this is the most pointless conversation of all time, my time would be better spent trying to teach a sack of potatoes nuclear fission.
>>28782934No. They would not, for reasons I've already described.Again, I personally like them. I would buy one.But I'm not going to pretend that they are a be all, end all.
>>28783013>But I'm not going to pretend that they are a be all, end all.I don't think anyone is. It's nice to have options though and competition is the driver of higher quality and lower costs.
We had a few domestic keis (daihatsu hijet, Mitsubishi minicab, I think the Mazda scrum?) But they were gutted by regulation immediately both with limiters so they couldn't go over 25 and by laws making them unregisterrable for onroad use. You also had the samurai which got raped by consumer report because it was outselling domestic optionsThere's zero reason to support them being banned here unless you're a competitor. Why you have some faggot on here arguing to the death that they should stay banned is beyond me
>>28783013You're viewing this in the currently landscape with shit regulations already in place when the argument is they would have been viable options had places not lobbied against them.We would have parts availability and maintenance options if they weren't outlawed. You would have new trucks if they weren't outlawedNone of your problems would be problems had it not been for faggot brands greasing palms to make sure they were allowed to rape you without contest.
>>28781858The Toro Workman has existed since the 90s and is way better quality than the JD. team green banks on the brand recognition and not quality. go somewhere where they use equipment like this daily (golf courses, etc) and they're running Toros.
>>28783483I love how rigid it looks
>>28783023No anon.I'm viewing this as a guy who has to work on the stuff you're talking about.I hate the bullshit regs.Domestic UTV's are mostly bullshit. But I am still talking about reality.Until you fucking gut congress and the EPA, you are not getting diesel Keis on U.S. streets.
>>28783483>Toro > JDMy question stands. If Toro produced a street legal Workman that did everything a kei truck did, would you buy it?
>>28782557Its Supra same thing. The only way he gets noticed at all is by namefagging. Imagine even being hated on 4chan
