Do Americans really still use gas cars? Why you guys so backwards? Over here in Europe we drive electric cars which not only saves us money on gas but also slows down pollution. I swear Americans really are dumb racists.

Fun fact. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists has been planning expansions of rigs into the deep gas wells of offshore Venezuela since last year. It's actually fun to watch the scientist end of things because it's about 6 months ahead of politics. When you see them talking about offshore West Africa for example, you know the warlords are less twitchy there, lately, and the corpos don't need an army of mercenaries to function. It's also fun to see specials on stuff like Oman being the best bros for the study of the Saudi Arabian basin and so on.

Non-gas related. Once the exorbitant US subsidies for green power died, it was hilarious to read the articles on contraction of offshore wind and the failure of proposed projects on the Eastern seaboard due to cost, security and environmental concerns. A bunch of the main oil companies are divesting from that kind of thing and coming back down to reality. BP was the first to do it early last year as they were literally going to go bankrupt playing the pretend green game. Everybody else is now stuck in trying to raise their reserves because they've faffed about for nearly a decade and not kept up on new exploration for petroleum.
