one day I'd like to get a short wheelbase G van. Its a shame they're so expensive because everyone else wants one too. Crazy seeing a normal LWB G20 in decent shape for like $2000 and then listed next to it is a shorty van in probably worse shape for $8000
I found a brown shorty van near me that according to google maps hasn't moved since 2007 and I'd like to knock and ask about it but unfortunately I'm retarded and afraid of talking to strangers

You can either have the G20 SWB or be cripplingly autistic, but not both.
>>

Why would you want a SWB? seems less useful than a longer one.

same reason you'd take a coupe over a sedan. because it looks cooler

Taking it back to the Boogie Vans of the 1970s. There were a lot of cool custom jobs before the up-fitters took over the market.

>maximum utility
In Oz it's popular to have removable camping components in a van, so it'll work all week and go camping on the weekend. Usually designed on cad, made from cut and fold aluminium for low weight and bolts in.

"Vans are neat. You can keep all your stuff in 'em, and if you ever want anything you just slam on the brakes and it hits you in the back of the head!"

I'm surprised these aren't factory options by now. Plastic cabinets that latch in with shelves and water tanks.
>>28792996
lol true. Metal cargo dividers are required for safety.

I think this modern van wave isn't going away like the 70s one. Lithium batteries and solar make it much more viable as a lifestyle.
>>

maybe not the place to ask, but i only have a small car and it's very uncomfortable to sleep in when i make trips to the mountains. i'm pretty sure i would be happy living in a van full time but i don't have the balls to do it with work and family and so on, and my budget.

but a friend told me that i should buy an small van or SUV and try small trips on that, with only the most basic diy camperization and see how it goes

he recommended the dacia duster, said it's comfy enough for me, and a great all around car in any case so it doesn't matter if i end up using it mostly like a car only, like normal people

anyone has any advice or comments on all this?

Check out cheap rv living on youtube. He tours tons of people's setups. There are plenty of people who live out of a sedan, SUV, or minivan. A sedan camper is fully doable if you pull the front seat to make a bed platform. Minivans have similar space to a SUV, but get way better mpg.

Damn straight. I'm glad to see commercial trucks in America are moving to a cabover design. Now we need factory 4x4 vans and suspensions tuned for towing like trucks.

a flimsy partition won't help you if you aren't strapping your shit down.

thanks, i'm enjoying that channel. i didn't imagine there is so many old people living by themselves on the road, it's a good feeling

They are metal and bolted into the frame.
>>28795650
Yup. They are on social security and can't work, so their only option is to make houslessness comfortable.

A van will never be able to tow like a proper pickup truck. If you need tow haul your living quarters around AND tow heavy a dually pickup with a camper has that covered. 4x4 options are obviously plentiful as well as engine options.
>>
>>28795819
The reason vans can't tow is a chicken and egg situation. If OEMs made towing or 4x4 vans then you'd find them commonly. Currently anything like this is a custom build aka expensive.

If you bought a factory van with 4x4 it costs a lot less than buying a new van and paying $20,000 for a conversion with custom parts.

GM put the 6.6 Duramax in the Express and nobody bought it. You can get a new one with a 6.6 gasser which will tow but nobody buys them to tow with. 4x4 Sprinters don't exactly fly off the shelves.

Same issue as before. There aren't factory open beds or extended cabs. If someone could buy a super long bed van with 4x4 that can tow a 5th wheel, they would.
>>28796936
Wow it only uses 20 watts of power.

The best work van I've seen I can't find a pic of. It was some big electrical service company. It had a full length open bed with utility boxes on the sides, and a full length roof rack.

Well how much does a PSone take? It handles that just fine (not a PS1, a PSone)
