If you were to ask me 6 years ago on what I think of your car, and its autotragic or had no other option but autotragic, I'd call both you and the manufacturer gay. Now in present day, I genuinely do not care, especially if its a GOOD auto. I still have preference over a good shift stick cus I'm autistic, and its the only thing I prefer to daily, traffic or not. But you give me a good sports sedan, like the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quad, and I'd daily the absolute ever living shit out of it. I'd would even argue that a 6 speed would ruin it.
I've owned at least ten cars in my life time and all but one have been manual. Probably because my first car was manual so I just stuck to what I know best. I didn't like driving that one auto car that I owned for about a year. I use engine braking a lot so I like to be able to drop down a gear or three when I'm slowing for a red light, which is something I couldn't do with the auto. If I had a car with semi-auto paddle shifters I might adapt to it but until that happens it's only manuals for me.

You've never tracked a ZF8 car, they don't overheat like you think they do. Manuals being "cheaper to rebuild" is only true if there's rebuild kits available for them. On most newer euros that doesn't exist any more (if you can find me a ZF 6 speed rebuild for my E46 I'll suck you off) And it's cheaper to replace an auto with a used one from a wrecker. Also to that point since you wanna bring up owning the Alfa. The ZF8 tuning on the Quadrafolios is phenomenal, in dynamic mode they make all the right noises, they bang gears harder than you can in a manual and arguably at the Quads level the manual would have ruined the overall package of the car. And as someone that's lived with the quad. The ONLY thing that's stopping me from purchasing one is the maintenance. There are no aftermarket options. Especially recently for some reason it's all dealer only. Pads and rotors? $5k Dealer only, spark plugs and coils? $400 Dealer only. Rock auto has nothing. The only way to get anything aftermarket is getting it from an online store in Lithuania, which still somehow ends up cheaper.

>>28793346I never really was one. I drove nothing but sporty manual cars for 18 years because that's what I was into, but I never gave a shit about somebody having an auto in their generic daily driver, and I also didn't think that a stick could magically make some gutless NPCmobile fun enough to be worth driving either. I drive a pickup truck with an auto now, and while I do sometimes miss owning a manual car I never wish my truck had one, nor would I trade it in on a manual car for DD purposes, and I do have a manual motorcycle now so it's not like my life is completely devoid of fun engaging vehicles.
i test drove a 2025 S3 and a 2025 IS350 (6spd) and the shift speed felt the same between both of them even though people bitch about how slow the yota auto is and how quick DSGs are. maybe the dsg needed to be warmed up more but either way i wasn't too impressed compared to my high mileage manual S4.
I only drive manuals because I service all my cars. Not going to deal with automatic transmission service, they don't even include drain plugs in a lot of them.
>>28793346I have never been a jerk, jerk, but as no man knows the hour of his death I cannot say the time I would cease to be a manual elitist. I suppose if I lost the use of my legs I would need an automatic as lever operation would require it. I couldn't change gear, steer and pull the fwds/backwds lever without have three hands or a unusually tensile penis.
>>28793346There are cars I like which never had them. >I'd would even argue that a 6 speed would ruin it.Wholeheartedly disagree with this though. You're coping with the fact that they never sold the Giulia with the manual in the US.

>>28794164This. It would take a serious injury to get me to drive an automatic.21 yrs of driving and I just bought another manual car last week - never had an automatic. I considered auto for a sec because I wasn't finding anything but my patience paid off and the thought of not driving manual genuinely makes me sad. I'd give up sex before M/T. I genuinely prefer a 100hp manual to a 400hp auto. It's a personal preference, I simply enjoy it so it's what I choose. I couldn't care less what others drive... except... manuals have basically disappeared so I'd like other people to buy them so they still exist when I'm 60.
I get grumpy hearing people car shopping, decide on a car with both manual and auto available, but still pick the auto, as if they didn't already have the entire rest of the market to choose from.
>>28794164>>28794265aren't there services/companies out there that can make manuals work with disabilities? Probably not cheap, but it's still an option.
>>28794297Might not even be needed, prosthetics have gotten really good recently. Was watching a video of someone reviewing a car the other day, it was a manual, and then I realized halfway through that the man's right hand was a full prosthetic. Guy could still shift no problem.
>>28794297Probably. I was in FSAE in uni and our car had a paddle on the steering wheel for the clutch. It would cost too much and be too unreliable to retrofit such onto a commuter car.
I never was one, but i started to actively despise the "manual community" at my current age I realize just how cringe they are, trying to shill some legitimately unfun cars with zero good driving dynamics because it has a stick you can play around with.

>>28794297It is just a lot to do at once you don't have legs. One hand does throttle/brake and indicators. The other steers with a ball connector on the wheel. >>28793567Except for fork trucks when I was 19 or so, I've driven nothing but 3 & 4 speed automatics since 1982, mostly because I enjoy driving most when it's low-effort as I can get it. About the only complaint I have with most of them is when it comes to passing when you're already at highway speed, and could use instantly lower gear and much higher revs. I drive a big ol' touring sedan, and one time drove it cross-country with it in the 3rd out of 4 top-gear settings, and didn't notice much difference in behavior except for the engine becoming audible around 70, and a certain extra sensation of yesteryear when it came to modulating speed with slight adjustments to pedal pressure.

>>28794643Oddly, when I bought mine I think they shipped from America. Had no issues otherwise getting them. https://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/hirochi3/ngk90219.html?sc_e=yauc_search_result_pcwebThe parts issues for me fall into 2 categories:1.) Part numbers between the US and the rest of the world are different, causing a lot of confusion. This is compounded by the lack of publicly available manuals.2.) No single site that'll let you search by parts diagrams and order stuff, so although sites like moparonlineparts.com (US) have a lot of stuff you might need, it's more difficult than it should be, especially if you don't have the right part number to search by. There is definitely a push by MOPAR to artificially limit parts availability so they can inflate prices, similar to how they added SGW to drive up costs for independent mechanics and push you to use their dealerships. But if you're able to source them directly then these things use cheap parts and it's not a big deal. Downside: they use cheap parts that'll fail more than they should.
>>28794668I still can find a bunch of options, looks like madness autoworks still has them pretty cheapit's definitely fucked that only a dealership can comprehensively look up diagrams with part numbers. btw thanks for reminding me to go ahead and do the SGW
>>28794605>>28794493>>28794024I'm not a manual purist at all and the Giulia ZF8 is shit. The 2.0 can cruise at like 1600 RPM and you need to grab two gears if you suddenly want to make a fast pass. That second downshift takes almost an entire second for some reason every damn time. If you're braking quickly into a low speed corner it's slightly better but still way too slow. The 4C's DCT can downshift in under a half-second even if it's preselected the wrong gear. Selecting gears in that car is much more natural feeling. And it's got properly wheel-mounted paddles instead of the retarded column mount.Maybe with the torque of the 2.9 it's not necessary to grab 2 gears all the time but I doubt the transmission responds that much faster.
>>28794164>>28794265Sadly kinda the reason I had to stop. Nowhere near as drastic, I've still got two working legs, but a 15+ year old knee injury (ironically from wrecking one of my first cars, which was manual) decided to start being a bastard and I couldn't deal with working a clutch through the long stop and go commute I had anymore. I can still drive stick on the side for fun but I don't own one right now, as I mentioned in an earlier post I do have a manual bike though.
>>28794725you don't even need to use the paddles, you can just shift with the knob forwards and back like in initial d arcade stage 3.
>>28794725Nah, I can't speak for the 2.0T ZF8, I've only ever drive the Quads. Whatever crack alfa was doing when tuning the ZF8, You'd have a harder time convincing me it IS a slushbox. Its about on par with VAG's DSG, if not a touch slower when coming up to temp. Its never NOT slow except when cold. Fuck the torque converter comes on LIKE a DCT clutch when coming off a stop, its actually rather annoying because of it. If anything the G87 M2 CS I've driven had a worse ZF8 tune, for some reason even in the fastest M-shift mode it always thought about shifting if you arent driving it at ten tenths, But full tilt? The G87 is magic.I'd assume the 2.0T is as trash as a Jeep cherokee, since they both use the exact same FCA powerplant and trans. But like I said, I haven't driven an Alfa with the 2.0T so I can't even comment on it.>>28794493>reading comprehension this poor>owing not even the performance trim of a car that you thinking you can speak on it and sportyness of a stick shift>Not knowing the underpinnings between THAT SUV and sedan are exactly the same minus a hatch and a body lift.I've "lived" with the Stelvio QV long enough to know its strengths and weaknesses, fuck I had to maintain one. I also had the privilage to compare the giulia QV and stelvio QV back to back, and say this from experience, they aren't all that awfully different. But you're right, an SUV that hurts feelings on track isnt THAT sporty. So I moved on to pic rel rental at that time.
>>28794668Sorry bud, but I'm a Canuck. Buying stateside is hit or miss. Its genuinely been easier and cheaper to buy it from Trodo Lithuania for us. We also ended up getting Gyro disks from a local performance parts store here because it was easier and at least you can buy the metal rings seperately for even cheaper later. The saving grace was the pads since they were used in other applications so they were available. Regardless, its wayyy too much trouble that its worth especially to daily year round.
>>28793346If you have only ever driven manual it's hard to even drive auto. You feel accustomed to pressing the clutch and shifting gears, it's part of driving a car.
