Back in my day, Mercedes was actually good

the fuck is the point

A civilization gone with the wind.

If you have to ask, you wouldn't get it.
>>
>>28795641
These were money pits that depreciated into shit box status. How are they any different from modern merc.
>>
>>28795720
Modern merc looks like melted niggerboxes driven only by coal-footed jew-in-the-poo jeeters only seen along jigaboo junction
>>
>>28795731
Modern Mercs look worse, but they were always for the same demographic.
>>
>>28795732
You got me there

>Biodegradable wire harness

You're a decade too late buddy. That gen of Mercedes was the start of the cost-cutting dogshit that destroyed their reputation as reliable cars.
>>
>>28795643
Then get the 2.8 with the manual, but you won't, Dr Cuntrarian.

Those were the days

Yeah that came to a grinding halt, back in '98. They NEVER should've told Bosch to fuck off and done their own electricals, because they fucked it up, BAD.
>>
>>28795643
V8 has manual swap kits now. Shops do the V12 manual but you have to pay a lot.
>>28795720
Correct but a lot of the SLs just sat in old folks garages and are still super mint
>>28795758
Bio harnesses have been replaced by now and arent that big a deal. This generation drives like a modern car unlike the 123/126/107 which drive like classics. And the cost cutting started after this generation.

Trying to compete with Lexus, led them to cut costs. Having so many car models, led to less quality-control. The merger with Chrysler led to even more issues like mismanagement, cultural business differences (US vs. Germany) and cutting even more costs. That is what led to the decline of Mercedes cars.

>Bio harnesses
So this is why my W202 wiring went to shit, cost me 2k to "fix" and the mechanics (official merc mechanics) didn’t know how and ended up fucking up the central key locking and the fucking foid lawyer I got just shrugged
Fucking bullshit
>>
>>28796280
>He went to a mechanic with an old german car's electrical issues
Well there's your problem
>>
>>28796287
Actually, me mum went there just to get a new ignition lock. Suddenly they started talking about muh wires and it got out of control.
Never had electrical problems so maybe they stripped it themselves

>This generation drives like a modern car unlike the 123/126/107 which drive like classics.
If you want it to drive like a modern car just go buy a modern mercedes then why even bother with this
>>
>>28796407
Yep. And I know someone who got ripped off for $3000 when they took a 15 year old Passat to a mechanic just for routine tune up stuff. You generally have to limit yourself to new cars if you're a wrenchlet. It's sad to only be able to experience a small fraction of all the cars ever made.
>>28796420
This may be come as a massive shock to you but some people don't like modern Mercedes for a variety of reasons. Crazy that people can have different preferences. Mind bottling in fact.
>>
>>28796280
>official merc mechanics
There's your problem. Should've gone to an indie.
>>
>>28795643
>muh luxury grand tourer doesn't have le epic stick manual
You missed the entire point of a car like this. Manual swapping SLs, S Classes, or any heavy luxury barge is braindead. Beyond maybe going fast on a straight line, you're never going to push performance out of them. The "sporty" R129 SL weighs more than most full size sedans of its era.
>>
>>28795732
>but they were always for the same demographic.
Not even close, bud.
>>

I wrench on my bikes, not on my mums car. The quote was 100 Euros for an OEM ignition, I didn’t want her to have some chinkshit key so we went to the authorized shop and now she has a chinkshit remote. The lock everything button doesnt work either. Hate it
>>
>>28796856
>100 Euros for an OEM ignition
That price seems suspiciously low knowing Mercedes
