>looks better than Model 3
>has more range than Model 3
>is more practical than Model 3 while still being sedan
>is fast as fuck
So why are they so cheap on the used market and why would anyone choose a Model 3 over Model S? Many of them even still have valid battery warranty.
>>
>>28796203
Why tf Tessies ao pretty? It's like anyone who makes a hybrid or electric collectively agreed to make it the ugliest thing on wheels, but Tesla said let's make it cute.
>>

>why are they so cheap on the used market
all evs are cheap on the used market
poor people, who are the buyers of used cars, frequently live in apartments/condos, and therefore can't charge an EV at home. or, if they're homeowners, they will be in rural areas, where EVs make less sense due to larger distances, worse charging infra, cheaper gas prices, more people working blue collar and needing a truck, etc
this is depressing the used values of all evs

>why would anyone choose a Model 3 over Model S?
price, obviously. even if a used model s is cheaper than a new model 3 (which, for old enough models, they are), an equally old model 3 is cheaper still
ofc, go back in time enough, and there's nothing except the model s, but people don't wanna risk buying 10 year old evs.
at that point, battery degradation is an actual concern rather than just FUD
plus, evs that old will have significantly worse range, slower charging, no heat pump, old infotainment hardware, etc etc
plus, a model s is going to have more expensive maintenance, air suspension is a pricy thing to fix.

realistically speaking, the best option for used ev buyers is a 2021+ model3, post the big refresh that added heat pumps and double pane glass at the front. or a similar vintage model y, if you need the extra space.
and you can easily get those at like 20k-25k (add 3-5k for a Y instead of 3), depending on mileage and whether its rwd or lr awd.
to find a model S at those prices, it's gonna have to be muuuuch older

mind you, its not like the idea is completely bonkers, a pre-2020 refresh model s (85/100d) is like 30-40k, is safe from battery degradation for a good few years still, and the value for money is very good.
its just that most prospective buyers will likely prefer the even cheaper model 3/y of similar vintage.

That's good to know. What I understand from Tesla cars is that yearly revisions generally come with huge upgrades since they're a fairly new company doing cars. Is this also why older models depreciate so fast maybe?
It's a shame the Model 3 is kinda ugly for being sedan and the trunk space is very limited. Model S has that nice liftback that for some reason didn't come to Model 3. I would kill for a Model 3 with Model S exteriors and liftback.
>>
>>28796203
Some Model S & Model X had free charging for the life of the car. That stays with the car not the original owner.
If you're looking used that is a rather neat extra.
>>
>>28796209
>old infotainment hardware
anyone who considers this when buying a car should be shot
>>
>>28796215
Those models are pretty old though. And they have in many cases been used as Taxis precisely due to their free charging. So I would be very sceptical unless you know the previous owner well.
>>
>>28796216
The whole car runs off the bitch nowadays anon, its something to consider if the thing you're interacting with is decent.
>>

>early revisions generally come with huge upgrades since they're a fairly new company doing cars. Is this also why older models depreciate so fast maybe?
its not a yearly thing, but yea, the various hardware upgrades do make a difference in prices

eg i mentioned post 2021 model 3s getting a heat pump and double pane glass. that's obviously a big upgrade over pre-2021 models, and you'll be able to find the latter for way cheaper because of it
there's also breakpoints for fsd hardware (hw2 to 2.5 to 3 to 4 currently), as well as infotainment hardware (intel atom to the new ryzen system)

>I would kill for a Model 3 with Model S exteriors and liftback.
post 2021 model Ss (with the horizontal screen) all have modern battery chemistry, 250kw charging, and heat pumps.
unfortunately, they're all significantly more expensive than a new base model 3, i doubt you can find them for less than 50k or so
however, if you live somewhere warm, you can get a 2019 model (raven refresh, no longer using the 60/75/85/100d names, instead using long range) for significantly cheaper. you still get new battery chem and fast charging, but no heat pump. good way to save money if you live in florida, very bad idea if you live in minesomalia.

It's over a decade old design imagine Honda was still selling the 2012 Acura Tl as a new vehicle
>>
>>28796223
there have been very significant hardware changes over the years, even if the actual styling hasn't changed
the current model is indeed old tho, realistically its the same as the 2021 refresh, which is not entirely unheard of for a car, but yea, its old enough to make it an issue

and while i'd love a proper refresh for the s and the x, ideally using all the cool shit that cybertruck has (800v battery, 48v accessories, rear steering, steer by wire), tesla is obviously (and wisely) focusing on the 3/y, their software ventures (fsd and especially getting robotaxis using fsd) and non-automotive battery stuff (load balancers, power walls, etc)

Who gives a shit about bug EV cars? Be a man and buy a real car while you still can
>>
>>28796241
Honestly anon, newer cars are such trouble that you may as well get a Model Y as daily, its probably the cheapest to own 400HP AWD car out there, im not saying get rid of a good old based gas car, but there's a reason people buy Model Ys, its stupid practical and most people can't get you off the line.
>>
>>28796241
There are no real cars anymore. Either you get a cucked tranny hybrid that gets the worst of both worlds, an old ICE driven to death and rusted to shit or an EV.
>>
>>28796203
>why do poorfags buy the cheaper cuck appliance than the more expensive one?
>>
>>28796245
>practical
Only if you have access to home charging and even then, you'll be just waiting for that day when the battery dies or the maintenance becomes too costly.
>fast & awd
Means nothing in a soulless EV where you can't feel the road or select your gears. I'll stick to my 60hp 1.2 FF shitbox, thank you.

>>28796298
This is bullshit. Just buy a nice used ICE car (there's millions of them) and stay away from EVs. If everybody did that, we wouldn't have this problem.

Or the day it randomly explodes multiple times and fills your suburban neighborhood with poison gas and burns your house down

Because it's a 16 year old design and everything was prettier 16 years ago.

That is one fucking hideous version of the European market Accord. Americans like they possessions to look like shit.
