>haven't gone to a junkyard in the better part of 10 years
>half shut down or are close to the public now
>call one nearby
>got bought out by an Indian but he at least tells me they don't have any newer ones there
>check the other one
>part finder broken for years on the website is still broken
>call
>Do you have any 201X-201X late model XYZ in the yard?
>You need engine?
>No I need other parts, could you just tell me if any of that year range are there I mean you had a computer and could do that like 6 years ago
>idk just go walk around
Are all of them just like this now?

just go and take a look yourself. people just realized ebay and marketplace are a lot more convenient that junkyards which is why a lot of these places shutdown or turned into "auto recycling" places only selling mechanical parts.

i break into the junkyard at night with my van and i take what i want.

A very small handful will let you on the junkyard grounds if you sign a waiver. I've been hurt the most by the disappearing of junkyards so I feel your pain. There's a couple chill ones but they're objectively hard to come by.

Most just use computer systems to give you a yes or no answer for a specfic car, the issue is nobody there gives a fuck enough to actually document every single model, year, etc but instead of just letting you do it yourself risk be damned they pussy out by not wanting a lawsuit.

I remember in 2011 sneaking into a junkyard to get a very specfic piece of trim for my first car (1978 dodge aspen) I was young and dumb but smart enough thanks to cartoons to throw bait to distract the junkyard dogs. Still got bit tho and got a jacket torn up jumping the wire fence in the process. Ah those were the days before surveillance poisoned the country.

Yeah. All the small and interesting ones that were around in the 80s and 90s are gone. I'm lucky enough to have two giant ones within an hour's drive, but that's it. All of the others have cleared out the old stuff. Nothing before the early 2000's.

I also noticed they all use the same cms for inventory but the Mexican working there for 8 bucks isn't updating shit they just see a door lock or a fender and charge you the rate. Unless you get there within a couple days of it first showing up expect it to be picked clean with their website telling you they have parts available. If it's small enough to be shipped you can probably get it cheaper on Amazon or eBay anyway. After my wife's car got hit i found the headlight and grill new on Amazon for 70 and 35, the junkyard that had then wanted 200 to 300 for each. Only the bumper made sense to get from the junkyard

>Mexican
Must be only your area because only Latinos in auto by me are mechanics not junkers. It's consistently been fringe rural whites that run junk yards in my life. Crystal meth being close behind.
