way worse than any newish kia

That's not a 340i or 640i or S5

Look, the diesel cheating fines wiped out any R and D. They’re only able to lie about their cars via marketing anymore. What more do you want?
>>
>>28798326
>>28798341
the true beauty of the GTI is the price in yurop when leasing. sub 150 eurobux a month is great
>>
>>28798348
everyone who was selling diesels was lying on emissions testing
the standards were unreasonable and required super frequent additions of urea that most customers weren't used to
I was reading some car magazine article I wanna say about maybe a ram diesel truck and it needed urea top ups every 1000 miles while towing.

VW should have reached out to government regulators and said the diesel standards were unreachable and were going to cause a huge problem, but on the other hand they were certainly targeted for reasons not fully explained (could have just been a government cash grab)
but they do have porsche, a money printer going brrrr, so they have some money and they refuse to innovate at all
their best recent innovation was bringing knobs back at Skoda

>yep, old engines were best, solid iron block and not that flimsy aluminum bullshit that warps if you rev the engine past 3k
>what's that, an engine that's still manufactured with an iron block? how dare they, iron block engines suck!
You guys just complain for complaining's sake.

VWs do suck, but claiming a Kia is any better is laughable

That's exactly why I bought the car
I also have 30 years worth of manufactured spares

Same. Although mine's just started running super hot and drinking a lot, thinking water pump's gone, the bastard.

A ford focus st would be better as a daily for a hot hatchback.

>>
>>28798832
Hell no nigga. Drive a GTI anon, that DSG alone makes it a better daily than the Ford. The interior and suspension tuning on the GTI is better too.
The only down side is the price, VW is getting too stingy for their namesake. The Golf R is pushing $50k these days
>>
>>28798868
>The only down side is the price
And thats why you pick the ST for daily driver
It's cheaper to buy, run and maintain than a GTI.
I'd only suggest the GIT over a ST if that's your only car and the only one you plan to have.
But the biggest point of having a daily driver like a hot hatchback is so you have something kind of fun and practical besides your main, fun, and expensive car.

Pros:
>LSD
>spool time
>quietness (for a small car)
>fuel economy

Cons:
>water pump. Not if but when.
>turbo failures
>FUCKED cooling system design/manifolds
>cam follower failure

Definitely a good car if you're proactive and do your own work, otherwise it's a higher risk car when outside of warranty. Don't forget to get an aftermarket rear sway bar, as is required for any FWD car
>>
>>28800418
>turbo failures
the is20s only had this up to early 2015, though the is38 has been a mess on the R. most mk7+ gtis have never had turbo issues.
>cam follower
they fixed this after mk5. I'll concede the others though.

>>
>>28800418
>aftermarket rear sway bar,
Do these actually work? Thought they cause more oversteer if not installed properly.
>>
>>28800550
It's highly dependant on how they set it up from the factory, I'm less familiar with the new model gti's but I'm assuming they're still configured with the 'safe' understeer configuration that they used to do, i.e. what basically any FWD car outside of a type r. FWD cars are much more likely to oversteer when adding a stiff sway bar to coilovers, typically on stock struts you're moving the handling balance towards oversteer but the car will still understeer at the limit overall

>>28800538
Yeah the turbo thing I think still happens on a fluke basis, I have a coworker who has a mk7 gti that had multimetal corrosion of the bearing, I saw some people online with it as well. Not super common per se but the turbo(+manifold) are really buried behind the engine so it's a real whore to replace
>>
>>28800550
having an oversteer prone fwd car is an advantage, because it's relatively easy to control. I put the fattest rear bar I could find on mine and it made it much more nimble especially low speed corner entry with very few downsides if you have even a little bit of car control skill.
>>
>>28798324
good all around, but isnt perfect in anything. solid daily shitbox, but boring as fuck. and im not even talking about spirited driving. everytihng from design standpoint - exterior, interior, to whole philosophy and engineering is solid but dull
>>
>>28800550
I put a thicker bar on my accord, that car desperately needed it. Way improved it it the parking lot, on-ramps, even through cross-winds. Should have come from the factory with a bigger rear bar for sure

the perfect personal transportation device is a scooter motorcycle. not a car or a truck. you use those things when you need to transport people or items but if you're only taking yourself to work or a party then all you need is a scooter motorcycle.
